No open-source Android app in the available evidence is shown to reliably free 5GB of system space. The amount recovered depends on what is actually taking up room and what you choose to remove. Storage analyzers can help locate large files and folders; some apps also offer cleanup features, but that does not make a particular recovery amount predictable or prove that protected system data can be deleted.
What is using all of your Android storage?
Start by distinguishing measurement from cleanup. An analyzer maps storage use so you can find large directories, files, or duplicates. A cleanup tool may offer ways to delete selected data. Neither function alone guarantees that space can be recovered: a large file may be important, and an app’s view of storage depends on the locations and permissions available to it.
Android’s own storage reporting is also a measurement, not a promise that an app can safely remove a corresponding amount. Android 8.0 can use ext4 quota support for near-instant usage statistics when the filesystem supports it; otherwise, Android falls back to manual calculations. Which open-source tools analyze storage, and which also clean it?
The projects below have different scopes. Treat their feature descriptions as claims about what they offer, not as comparative test results or promises of recovered space.

How to use a storage analyzer without deleting the wrong thing
- Scan the storage locations the app can access. Check whether its view covers internal storage, external storage, or only media and public directories; these are not interchangeable.
- Sort or filter for the largest items. Open a folder tree or treemap and inspect the actual files behind a large block or directory. A visual size ranking identifies candidates, not disposable data.
- Review each deletion in context. Confirm that a file is personal or otherwise safe to remove, and that you have a backup if you may need it. Do not assume an analyzer can identify every file’s purpose.
- Use cleanup features only when you understand the target. For caches, leftovers, duplicates, or other categories, review the selected items and the app’s description of what will be removed before proceeding.
- Check storage again after deletion. Compare the same Android storage view or measurement method before and after. A reported change is meaningful only if the measurement basis is consistent.
Why “reliably freed 5GB” needs a device-specific test
A 5GB result cannot be generalized without a reproducible record identifying the app and version, handset, Android version, storage locations scanned, exact cleanup actions, and before-and-after measurement method. None of those test details is established for the claimed result here, so the figure should not be treated as independently verified or as an expected outcome.
Also distinguish user files from system-managed data. Deleting personal videos or downloads can create space, but that does not demonstrate that an app removed protected system data. The permissions and device configuration matter, and an analyzer’s display alone cannot establish that a selected item is safe to delete.
