On a Galaxy phone or tablet already signed in to your Samsung Account, go to Settings > Security and privacy > Account security > Samsung account security > Two-step verification > Backup codes. You can also find them on Samsung’s account website under Security > Password and security > Two-step verification > Backup codes, after signing in and completing any requested verification.
Find backup codes on a Galaxy phone or tablet
- Open Settings.
- Tap Security and privacy.
- Open Account security, then Samsung account security.
- Tap Two-step verification and complete any authentication prompt.
- Choose Backup codes to view the codes. Save or download them securely if that option is available.
On some devices, open the Samsung Account profile at the top of Settings, then go to Security and privacy > Two-step verification. Menu names and locations can vary by device and software version.
Find backup codes in a browser
- Sign in to your Samsung Account on Samsung’s account website.
- Open Security and complete any requested password or verification check.
- Under Password and security, select Two-step verification.
- Open Backup codes to view or download them, or request a fresh set if that option is offered.
The browser route requires enough account access to reach the security settings. Samsung’s instructions do not provide a way to retrieve codes without authenticating to the account.

Use a backup code to sign in
At the two-step verification prompt, choose the backup-code option and enter one saved code that has not been used before. Samsung states that each backup code can only be used once. A code for a different Samsung Account will not work.

If you cannot find or use a code
- Check the account: Make sure the device or browser is using the Samsung Account for which the code was generated.
- Check whether it was used: A previously used code cannot be used again. If you can access two-step verification settings, view, download, or request new codes there.
- Try another verification method: Samsung describes text messages, notifications on a Galaxy device, and an authenticator app as alternatives. An alternate method may let you sign in and reach the backup-code settings.
- Try another signed-in device or browser: Use a Galaxy device already signed in to the account, or the browser route if you can complete authentication.
- Contact Samsung Support: If you cannot authenticate with any available method, contact Samsung Support. The documented settings routes do not bypass account verification.
Save codes before you need them
Backup codes are useful only if you can access an unused one when your usual verification method is unavailable. Once you reach the settings, save or download the codes securely; Samsung’s account management guidance describes viewing, downloading, or requesting new codes. Consider a secure location you can reach without relying on the device or sign-in method that might be unavailable. Samsung’s Canada setup guide notes that available options can vary by device, software, website, account configuration, and security preferences, and that codes need to be generated and saved in advance.
