For music saved as a regular audio file, open your Android phone’s Files app and check Music and Downloads. For songs downloaded for offline listening in a streaming service, open that service and look in its Library or Downloads area instead. The right place depends on how the music was saved.
First, identify how the music was downloaded

Google’s Android Help advises users to return to the app where content was downloaded. The exact app labels and file-browsing steps can vary by Android device.
Find ordinary music files in Android storage
- Open your phone’s Files app. Some manufacturers provide a different file-browsing app, and its name or layout may differ.
- Check Audio or Music for audio files. Android’s shared-storage guidance identifies

Downloadas a standard location for downloaded files. - If the app offers search, search for the song title or an audio filename. A file may be stored somewhere other than these common folders.
These are useful places to check, not a guarantee that every phone or app uses identical folders or displays files in the same way. Android developer documentation describes standard shared-storage locations, while Google notes that file steps can vary by device.

Open the service you used to download the songs and check its Library or Downloads section. Offline content in a streaming service should not be assumed to be a regular MP3 that other file browsers and music players can browse. Its storage and access depend on the app; the available sources do not establish universal export or transfer rules across music services.

Spotify’s Android storage option
Spotify documents an option to choose an available SD card for storage on Android. In Spotify, go to Settings and privacy > Data-saving and offline > Storage. This setting concerns where Spotify stores its app-managed downloads; it does not make those downloads ordinary audio files.
If music does not appear in Files
- Check whether you downloaded the song inside a streaming app for offline playback. If so, look in that app rather than treating the absence of a visible audio file as proof the download is missing.
- For a regular file, inspect both Music and Downloads and try the Files app’s search function, if available.
- Remember that Android app access rules can affect what apps can browse. The Android Open Source Project explains that, on Android 11 or higher, apps targeting API 30 or higher must use scoped storage. This describes app access—not the location of a particular song.
Browse phone files from a computer
To look for regular audio files on a computer, connect the phone to the computer by USB and browse the device’s files. Google’s Android Help describes USB file browsing and notes that device steps can vary. Use a cable that fits both devices and supports data transfer, not just charging. A computer connection is not needed simply to locate music on the phone.
