Start with Gallery > Menu (three horizontal lines) > Trash, select the picture, and tap Restore. Samsung says deleted Gallery files stay there for 30 days. If the photo is missing, check My Files’ Recycle bin, Google Photos, any previously synced OneDrive copy, and a removable memory card.
1. Restore the picture from Samsung Gallery Trash
- Open Gallery.
- Tap Menu (the three horizontal lines). Depending on your device and software version, the menu may appear in a different place.
- Tap Trash.
- Select the photo and tap Restore.
Samsung’s guidance says, “Files deleted from the Gallery app are kept in the trash for 30 days.” That period applies to the Gallery Trash workflow described by Samsung, not necessarily to every app or device configuration. If the photo is not there, it may have passed the retention period, or it may have been deleted from another app. See Samsung’s Gallery Trash instructions.
2. Look in My Files Recycle bin
Samsung’s My Files app has a separate Recycle bin, so check it even if Gallery Trash is empty.

- Open Recycle bin (on some software versions, it may be listed as Trash).
- If the picture appears, select it and choose the restore option shown on your device.
Samsung notes that available screens and settings can vary by model and software version. Its My Files Trash guidance explains the feature.

3. Check Google Photos, including the account and Archive
Google Photos has its own Trash, separate from Samsung Gallery Trash. First confirm you are using the Google account where the photos were backed up. Then check these locations:
- Trash/Bin: Select the photo and use Restore if it is still available. Google’s current instructions give a 30-day Trash period. Items permanently deleted or no longer in Trash cannot be restored through that workflow. See Google’s restore instructions.
- Archive: An archived photo is hidden from the main photo view, not deleted. Look in Archive and unarchive it if needed.
- Device folders: Check the folders for the app or location where the photo was saved. Google’s missing-photos guide covers account, archive, and device-folder checks.
Deleting a photo in one app does not establish that it is present in another app’s Trash. Check each service separately.

4. Check OneDrive for older Samsung Gallery Sync copies
If you previously enabled Samsung Gallery Sync with OneDrive, look in the OneDrive account that was linked to the phone. Samsung says Gallery Sync ended on September 30, 2026; this means new Gallery syncing is no longer available through that service, but previously synced photos and videos remain in the OneDrive account and can be downloaded.
If you deleted a synced item, check OneDrive’s Recycle bin. Samsung says deleted files remain there for 93 days. These details are from Samsung’s instructions for photos previously synced with OneDrive.

5. Inspect a removable memory card, if your phone used one
If the picture was stored on a removable memory card, remove the card and inspect it separately using a compatible device or card reader. Google notes that deleted photos and videos might remain on removable memory cards; see its Android photo-deletion guidance.
A card reader only gives you access to the card; it does not recover deleted data by itself. Check your specific Samsung model’s specifications before buying or using a reader, since not every model supports removable cards.

If none of these places has the photo
The documented restoration routes are the relevant app’s Trash or Recycle bin, a cloud copy, or a separate copy on removable storage. If the photo is absent from those places—or was permanently deleted from them—these routes do not provide a way to restore it. The official guidance cited here does not establish a general method for recovering permanently deleted pictures from a Samsung phone’s internal storage, so treat claims that an app can reliably do that with caution.
