To get Caged Hystrix, follow the Silent Steps route in Mammon to the Chamber of Becoming, defeat Sariel, then keep moving toward the dungeon exit and check the pickup area. Caged Hystrix is described as a separate pickup, not an automatic reward for claiming the Clockwork Scythe after the boss. Guide accounts differ on the final steps before the sidearm appears, so complete Sariel’s shell and “The Search” memory sequence if the game presents it.
Where is Caged Hystrix?
Guides place the Chamber of Becoming along the Silent Steps route in southern Mammon. Travel to Silent Steps and follow the route into the dungeon; the sidearm is described near its exit, beyond Sariel’s arena, rather than as the boss’s direct reward. The location details come from secondary guides, not an official walkthrough. Gamepressure’s Mortal Shell II guide and Gamer Guides’ Mortal Shell II guide describe the route and pickup, but differ on the exact final prerequisites.
How to get Caged Hystrix
- Reach Silent Steps. Start from or travel to the Silent Steps area in Mammon, then follow the route to the Chamber of Becoming.
- Progress through the dungeon to Sariel. Guides describe an encounter that continues deeper into the Chamber of Becoming; do not assume the first meeting is the final fight.
- Destroy the four resurrection stones or tablets. Guide accounts say Sariel can revive until four glowing objects are destroyed. Clear them before treating the encounter as complete.
- Defeat Sariel and claim the Clockwork Scythe. The guides associate the scythe with defeating Sariel. It is distinct from Caged Hystrix.
- Continue toward the exit. After the boss, keep moving along the dungeon route and inspect the pickup area near the exit for Caged Hystrix.
- Complete the shell and memory sequence if it appears. One guide says to take Sariel’s shell and complete “The Search” memory before reaching the final stretch to the sidearm. Other descriptions do not establish those steps as universal prerequisites, so treat them as a reported route detail rather than a guaranteed requirement.
Clockwork Scythe and Caged Hystrix are separate rewards
Defeating Sariel is linked to the Clockwork Scythe, while Caged Hystrix is described as a separate pickup farther along the route. If you have the scythe but not the sidearm, return to the path beyond the arena and check the area leading to the exit rather than repeating the boss fight by default.

- Confirm you continued beyond Sariel’s arena instead of stopping after collecting the scythe.
- Check whether Sariel’s shell inheritance or “The Search” memory sequence is available, and complete it if so.
- Revisit the route toward the Chamber’s exit and inspect the pickup area. The available guide descriptions do not establish a single final prerequisite sequence that applies in every case.
Platforms and release date
Mortal Shell II is listed for Steam/PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Steam lists August 20, 2026 as the release date; Playstack announced the same date and platforms on July 8, 2026. Steam’s Mortal Shell II listing and Playstack’s release announcement confirm those details. These official sources establish platform and release information, not the Caged Hystrix route.
