Open Windows 11 Settings with Windows key + I, or right-click Start and choose Settings. From there, search for a setting by name or goal, or browse the category list to find related controls.
Search for a setting or browse categories?
Use Settings search when you know what you want to change or the result you want. Try a keyword such as “display” or “notifications,” or a natural-language query such as “Change my theme,” “View storage usage,” or “My mouse pointer is too small.” Browse categories when you want to explore related options or are unsure what a control is called. Microsoft describes Settings as a central hub for managing PC preferences (Microsoft Support: Exploring Windows Settings).
What each Windows 11 Settings category contains
These are representative destinations, not an exhaustive inventory. A category may lead to more detailed pages, and the exact menu location can vary with the Windows build, device, region, or configuration. If a control is hard to find, use Settings search.

- To browse, choose a category from the navigation panel. Open the relevant page, then follow any link to a more detailed subpage.
For example, network connections are grouped under Network & internet, while appearance choices are under Personalization. The navigation and search approaches are both supported by Microsoft’s guide (Exploring Windows Settings).
Navigate Settings with a screen reader
Microsoft documents a keyboard workflow for moving through Settings categories: press Tab and use the arrow keys to move focus, then press Enter to open a category. In the described workflow, Ctrl + E moves focus to the search box. See Microsoft’s accessibility guidance for the specific workflow (Microsoft Support accessibility features in Windows).

Copilot+ PC Settings search has limited availability
Microsoft says improved natural-language search and an on-device Settings agent are available on Copilot+ PCs, not universally across Windows 11 devices. The agent can suggest settings and, after you initiate the action and give permission, offer to apply a change. It does not change settings automatically; you select Apply. Microsoft lists support for Chinese (Simplified), English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, and says the feature is available in all countries except China. Actual availability therefore depends on device, language, and geography. Consult Microsoft’s current Windows Settings overview for details (Microsoft Support).

Understand the limits of privacy controls
Privacy & security settings include controls for app access to information and features such as location, camera, microphone, contacts, and calendar. Microsoft cautions that these app lists mostly cover Microsoft Store apps. Desktop apps may not appear and may access data differently, so a Settings permission list should not be treated as a complete control over every desktop program. See Microsoft’s explanation of privacy settings and app permissions (Microsoft Support).
