Short answer: you cannot yet make a rules-level choice about Finals Week. No authoritative publisher rulebook or product page establishes its player count, play time, roles, win conditions or availability. For a game you can select with confidence, choose Deception: Murder in Hong Kong for a fast clue-solving session, Secret Hitler for election-driven bluffing with five to 10 players, The Resistance for mission votes and accusation without revealing role cards, or Clue Conspiracy for a familiar mystery theme with two secret teams.
What is known about Finals Week?
At present, there is not enough authoritative information to compare Finals Week fairly with established social-deduction games. A reliable publisher source or rulebook has not established the game’s supported player count, average duration, role structure, information flow, win conditions, facilitator requirements, elimination rules or retail availability.
That is more than a minor omission. Those specifications determine whether a game works for four people around a kitchen table, eight people at a party, or a group that wants a 20-minute filler. Without them, any claim that Finals Week is more cooperative, more deceptive, shorter or easier to teach than another title would be speculation. Treat Finals Week as an unverified option until its publisher provides those basics.

Quick picks by group and play style
| What your group wants | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A short social-deduction game for four people | Deception: Murder in Hong Kong | It supports four to 12 players and is listed at about 20 minutes, with a fixed forensic clue to interpret. |
| Six players who enjoy bluffing through procedure | Secret Hitler | Its five-to-10-player format centers on electing governments and enacting policy tiles while hidden factions manipulate the table. |
| Repeated team votes and mission arguments | The Resistance | Players propose mission teams, vote on those teams and judge success or failure without revealing role cards in the regular game. |
| A mainstream mystery setting for four to 10 | Clue Conspiracy | Friends try to save Mr. Coral and uncover a plot while Conspiracy members work secretly toward his murder. |
| A game specifically called Finals Week | Wait for an authoritative rules source | Its player count, duration and core procedure are not established, so group fit cannot yet be verified. |
These are fit recommendations, not a ranking of quality. Each game creates tension differently: interpreting evidence, passing legislation, approving mission teams or investigating a hidden plot.

Deception: Murder in Hong Kong: best for a short clue-solving game
Gen42 describes Deception: Murder in Hong Kong as a four-to-12-player deduction and deception game that takes about 20 minutes. That range makes it the most flexible choice here when the group size is uncertain, including a four-player gathering that still wants hidden information rather than a conventional cooperative puzzle.

How the tension works
A Forensic Scientist knows the solution but communicates indirectly through scene tiles. Investigators must interpret that constrained evidence, while the murderer reads the same clues and tries to misdirect the table. The appeal is not a long campaign or a complicated board state; it is the argument over what one shared clue means.
Who should choose it
- Choose it when the group wants a short social-deduction game that can fit into an evening with multiple rounds.
- Choose it when one person can comfortably provide the information channel represented by the Forensic Scientist.
- Choose it when players enjoy discussing concrete evidence rather than inventing a political narrative.
Potential friction
The game depends on players being willing to interpret scene tiles and defend competing readings. A group that dislikes open-ended clue discussion may prefer a more procedural voting system. The cited product information establishes the player range and approximate duration, but not a universal setup time or a separate moderator requirement.
Secret Hitler: best for elections, bluffing and asymmetric information
The official Secret Hitler description supports five to 10 players. It divides the table into a liberal majority and hidden fascists. The rules require players to elect governments and enact policy tiles, so each vote carries both procedural and psychological weight.

What players actually do
Players nominate and vote on governments, then enact policy according to the rules. Liberals try to identify and stop fascists; fascists conceal their identities and steer the policy process toward their objective. The result is a game of public claims backed by private faction knowledge, rather than a purely cooperative puzzle with one hidden traitor.

Best group size
Five is the minimum listed player count, so it is not a choice for four people. Six to eight players usually gives enough competing testimony for elections to feel meaningful without making every discussion unwieldy. At nine or 10, the larger information pool can produce louder, more chaotic debate; that is a feature for groups that enjoy table politics, not a guarantee of a better experience.
Important availability note
The official site states that its Creative Commons edition is available free under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. That is a licensing fact, not an assurance of a boxed retail edition, local stock or a particular price. If you use the free edition, follow its license terms and obtain the current rules from the official source.
The Resistance: best for mission teams and accusation without role reveals
The Resistance is built around proposing mission teams, voting on those proposals and reading the result. Its rules FAQ says that spies know one another in the regular game, while the role cards remain unrevealed during normal play. That combination gives spies private coordination and forces resistance players to infer identities from voting patterns and mission outcomes.
How a round ends
- The game ends after three successful missions.
- It also ends after three failed missions.
- If five team proposals are rejected in a round, the game ends under the rules FAQ.
Because a failed mission is public evidence but not a complete identity reveal, the group repeatedly revisits earlier votes. A player can support a team to look cooperative, reject a good team for strategic reasons, or change position when the evidence shifts.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWho should choose it
Pick The Resistance when your group wants accusation to build over several missions and does not want players physically eliminated. It is particularly suitable for people who enjoy remembering who supported which team. It is less suitable for a group that wants a single obvious clue or a strongly themed murder story.

Clue Conspiracy: best for a familiar mystery with two secret teams
Hasbro’s official instructions describe Clue Conspiracy as a four-to-10-player game. Friends try to save Mr. Coral and uncover the hidden plot, while Conspiracy members try to carry out his murder. The setting uses a hidden plot, location and weapon, giving the game a recognizable mystery frame while keeping the objectives opposed.
Why the theme matters
Players who know classic mansion-mystery conventions can understand the premise quickly: investigate what is happening, identify the threat and protect the target. The secret-team structure gives the social conflict a clear story reason, which can help mixed-experience groups engage faster than an abstract deduction game.
When to pick it over the others
- Pick it for four players when you want a mainstream mystery theme and a supported range that starts at four.
- Pick it for a family or party audience that responds to recognizable characters and a concrete murder plot.
- Pick another title if your group specifically wants the election procedure of Secret Hitler or the mission-vote loop of The Resistance.
The cited official instructions summary does not establish a typical play time, a separate moderator requirement or a standard elimination procedure. Those details should be checked in the edition you plan to use.

Four players
Deception: Murder in Hong Kong and Clue Conspiracy both list four as a supported minimum. Deception is the clearer choice when you want the approximately 20-minute clue-solving format. Clue Conspiracy is the better thematic choice if your group wants the Mr. Coral mystery. Secret Hitler is below its listed minimum, and Finals Week has no verified player count.
Six players
All three verified alternatives with explicit lower limits can be considered: Deception, Secret Hitler and Clue Conspiracy. Choose Secret Hitler if elections and hidden faction knowledge are the attraction; choose Deception for a compact evidence discussion; choose Clue Conspiracy for a story-led opposing-team experience. The Resistance can also fit if your edition’s rules support your table size, but the cited FAQ does not provide a player-count figure.
Eight players
Eight is within the published ranges for Deception, Secret Hitler and Clue Conspiracy. It is a strong size for groups that want more competing claims. Secret Hitler becomes especially attractive if your players enjoy long arguments over government choices, while Deception remains the safer pick when you want to keep a round near 20 minutes.

Ten players
Secret Hitler and Clue Conspiracy list 10 as their upper limit; Deception extends to 12. At this size, agree on speaking order and table etiquette before starting so quieter players can contribute. If your group wants to add people beyond 10, Deception is the only option in this comparison with an explicitly stated range reaching 12.
Choose by the mechanism, not the label “co-op”
These games are often grouped together as cooperative, deception or party games, but they do not create the same social contract. In Secret Hitler, The Resistance and Clue Conspiracy, hidden teams pursue opposing objectives, so the table is not fully cooperative even when several players share a faction. Deception places a known murderer against investigators interpreting a common forensic signal. The key question is whether your group wants shared problem-solving with concealed interference, or openly opposed teams that win by controlling the procedure.
If you want a co-op game with a traitor
Start with Deception if you want a common clue and one player working against the investigation. Consider The Resistance if the traitor’s influence should emerge through mission-team votes and repeated results. Secret Hitler is a stronger fit when the traitor element is embedded in elections and policy choices rather than a single evidence stream.
If everyone wants to lie
Secret Hitler gives hidden factions the broadest reason to construct public narratives around votes and policies. The Resistance rewards careful claims about who belongs on a mission. Deception limits the discussion more tightly around the available scene tiles, which can be easier for players who prefer evidence to free-form political role-play.
If your group dislikes elimination
The regular procedures described for Secret Hitler and The Resistance do not use role-card reveals as the central way to remove players. The cited summaries do not establish elimination as a defining feature for Deception or Clue Conspiracy either. Confirm the current edition’s full rules if avoiding player removal is a hard requirement.
A practical selection checklist
- Count the players. Eliminate any title whose published minimum or maximum does not include your table. Four rules out Secret Hitler; 11 or 12 favors Deception among the explicitly supported ranges.
- Set a time target. If you need an approximately 20-minute game, Deception is the only option here with that figure in its cited product description. The other listed sources do not state a typical duration.
- Choose the information style. Pick clue interpretation for Deception, asymmetric faction knowledge and elections for Secret Hitler, mission composition for The Resistance, or a hidden mystery plot for Clue Conspiracy.
- Decide how much procedure you want. Elections and policy tiles make Secret Hitler structured; mission proposals and vote outcomes make The Resistance structured; Deception is centered on interpreting a fixed clue; Clue Conspiracy uses its themed secret-team objectives.
- Verify Finals Week before buying. Look for a publisher rulebook or product page that states players, duration, setup, roles, win conditions and availability. Until those details exist, do not assume it fills the same niche as any title above.
Bottom line for this comparison
For a recommendation you can make now, choose Deception: Murder in Hong Kong when four to 12 people need a short, clue-focused game; Secret Hitler for five to 10 players who enjoy elections and faction bluffing; The Resistance for mission-team votes and accumulating suspicion; or Clue Conspiracy for a four-to-10-player mystery with opposing secret teams. Finals Week remains a watch-and-verify option, not a responsible rules-level winner, because its basic game specifications are still unconfirmed.
