Final Fantasy XV is not receiving a new standalone sequel or remake on October 22, 2026. The headline refers to Noctis Lucis Caelum, Final Fantasy XV’s protagonist, appearing as a summonable Vision in Final Fantasy Resonance, Square Enix’s upcoming HD-2D role-playing game. The crossover is scheduled for October 22, 2026.
What actually returns on October 22?
Final Fantasy Resonance launches on October 22, 2026. Its Vision system allows familiar Final Fantasy characters to join the party, and Noctis is one of those summonable characters. This is a crossover appearance inside a new game, not confirmation that Square Enix is launching another standalone Final Fantasy XV title.
Noctis’s appearance reportedly includes his Armiger ability and Royal Weapons, connecting the guest character to the combat identity established in Final Fantasy XV. The crossover gives players a way to use Noctis in Resonance, but it does not turn the new RPG into a direct continuation of his original story.

Final Fantasy Resonance is an HD-2D RPG built around cinematic pixel art, turn-based battles and the Vision system. Its setting combines series staples such as airships, crystals, espers and moogles. Square Enix describes it as “A classic RPG adventure” in a world filled with beloved FINAL FANTASY elements.

The HD-2D presentation uses pixel-art characters and environments with modern lighting and cinematic effects. Turn-based combat provides the traditional menu-driven structure associated with classic role-playing games, while Visions add recognizable heroes and other Final Fantasy figures to the party-building system.
Is Noctis playable?
Yes. Noctis returns as a summonable Vision rather than as the main protagonist of Final Fantasy Resonance. Players can bring him into the party through the game’s Vision system. The reported feature set includes Armiger and Royal Weapons, so his version in Resonance is designed around signature elements from Final Fantasy XV.
Rank #2
- An import from Square Enix
- Redesigned joint structure
- Includes a mechanism that allows eyes to move
- Interchangeable face part with red eyes and multiple pairs of hands included
- Accessories include Engine Blade, one-handed sword, and hand wearing the Ring of the Lucii
That distinction matters: the announcement establishes a playable crossover role, not a new campaign starring Noctis or a new numbered entry in the Final Fantasy XV series.

Standard, collector and goods-box editions
Square Enix lists standard and collector editions, along with a separate goods-box configuration. The goods-box warning is especially important: the goods box itself does not contain the physical game. In the collector bundle, the game is supplied separately alongside the merchandise.

|---|---|---|
| Standard edition | The game | No collector merchandise is listed |
| Collector edition | The game is included separately in the bundle | Acrylic blocks, a 120-page hardcover pixel-art book, a four-CD soundtrack with 120 tracks and an FFTCG promotional card |

The collector soundtrack is a four-CD set totaling 120 tracks, while the hardcover pixel-art book contains 120 pages. Those quantities come from Square Enix’s 2026 product listing. The bundle also includes acrylic blocks and a promotional FFTCG card.

What should returning Final Fantasy XV players expect?
Players familiar with Final Fantasy XV will recognize Noctis’s weapons and Armiger-themed presentation, but the surrounding game follows Resonance’s own systems. Combat is turn-based rather than the real-time action format used by Final Fantasy XV, and Noctis is one Vision among a larger roster of party options.
That makes the crossover suitable both for fans looking to revisit Noctis and for players approaching the character through a classic-style Final Fantasy adventure. It also means that owning or having played Final Fantasy XV is not presented as a requirement for playing Final Fantasy Resonance.
