Final Fantasy XIV’s latest major all-world update covered by the official notices is Patch 7.57. Square Enix scheduled the related maintenance from October 12, 2026 at 10:00 GMT until October 13 at 10:00 GMT. A later notice revised the expected finish to approximately 2:25 a.m. PDT on October 13. The official notices do not state a download size in gigabytes; the launcher shows the amount for your platform and installation. For current availability, use the FINAL FANTASY XIV Lodestone news and status stream, where maintenance, known issues, and completion notices are posted.

What Patch 7.57 changed
The October 12–13 maintenance was not described as routine downtime alone. Square Enix said it was required to deploy Patch 7.57 and to advance the implementation of same-region player matching on the Japan data center. The notice stated that maintenance would occur on all Worlds and that FINAL FANTASY XIV would be unavailable during the window.
Cross-world matching within the Japan data center
Under the announced change, matchmaking and party recruitment on the Japan data center could extend to every player on the same physical data center, regardless of the individual world on which that player’s character was located. In practical terms, a duty or recruitment search was no longer limited to people on one selected world when the relevant cross-world function was active.
This is a same-region, same-physical-data-center change. It does not mean that Japan data centers were connected to North American, European, or Oceanian data centers, and it does not imply that every cross-region combination became available at once. Square Enix said rollout to other data centers would follow after stability had been confirmed.

Why the rollout can produce separate notices
The all-world maintenance notice and later data-center or cross-world-function notices describe different scopes. An all-world window affects the game globally, while a later notice can concern one data center or one function. Read the scope line and timestamp rather than treating every Lodestone headline as a new global outage.
How long was the maintenance?
The documented window was 24 hours when read in GMT: from 10:00 GMT on October 12 to 10:00 GMT on October 13, 2026. That is a scheduled window, not a promise that every account would be playable for the entire period or that future maintenance would last the same amount of time.
Square Enix expressly cautioned that the completion time was subject to change. A follow-up notice subsequently moved the expected finish to approximately 2:25 a.m. PDT on October 13. Because PDT is seven hours behind GMT, that estimate corresponds to 09:25 UTC, or 35 minutes before the original 10:00 GMT endpoint. “Approximately” means it remained an estimate rather than a guaranteed reopening time.

How big is the FFXIV update?
No gigabyte figure is published in the official maintenance or status notices covered here. Do not rely on an online estimate presented as the Patch 7.57 download size. The launcher is the authoritative source for the amount your installation must retrieve.
Why two players can see different download amounts
- Platform: the Windows, macOS, PlayStation, Xbox, and other supported installations can package files differently.
- Installed build: an installation that has missed earlier updates may need more data than one that is current.
- Existing files: the launcher can reuse files already present, reducing the remaining download.
- Patch application: the amount downloaded and the temporary space needed to unpack or replace files are not necessarily identical.
Those variables are why a single number in gigabytes would be misleading without a platform, installed version, and measurement date.

How to check the amount before downloading
- Open the official FINAL FANTASY XIV launcher for your platform.
- Sign in and allow it to check the installed build.
- Read the patch prompt or download meter. Use the displayed total or remaining amount as the figure for that installation.
- Check available storage before starting. Leave additional room beyond the displayed transfer amount for temporary patch files and the installation process.
- Keep the launcher open until verification and installation finish; a download percentage reaching 100 percent does not always mean file replacement and verification are complete.
If the launcher shows a number that differs from a forum post, trust the launcher for your device. A community estimate may refer to another platform, an older build, or the full patch package rather than the files your installation still needs.

Is Final Fantasy XIV down right now?
The official material does not provide a single numeric uptime percentage or a universal green/red status indicator. Current availability is therefore best determined from the latest dated Lodestone notice and its stated scope.
Use the Lodestone as the primary status check
The FINAL FANTASY XIV Lodestone news/status stream carries the authoritative maintenance, outage, known-issue, and follow-up announcements. The current index includes Patch 7.57 notices, a known issue reported after release, and Japan data-center cross-world-function maintenance notices.

Start with the newest timestamp, then read the affected service and region. A notice may describe all Worlds, one data center, one world, or a particular cross-world function. “Scheduled maintenance,” “revised completion estimate,” “known issue,” and “maintenance completed” have different meanings and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Compare status sources by four useful tests
| Test | Official Lodestone notice | Community report or social post |
|---|---|---|
| Authority | Published by the game operator | Usually an individual or community account |
| Freshness | Use the timestamp on the latest notice | May be delayed, reposted, or missing an update time |
| Scope | Normally identifies all Worlds, a data center, a world, or a service | Often describes one player’s region or connection |
| Certainty | Can distinguish a scheduled window, revised estimate, known issue, or confirmed completion | May report symptoms without establishing the cause |
Community posts can help reveal that other players are seeing the same symptom, but they should not replace the Lodestone when deciding whether maintenance is still active.

- Check the latest Lodestone timestamp. Look for a notice that covers all Worlds or your specific data center.
- Read the scope and state. A known issue after maintenance is different from an active global shutdown, and a data-center function notice may not block every game service.
- Compare the clock with the estimate. Treat the published end as a target. If the notice says completion is subject to change, wait for a completion or follow-up notice rather than assuming the original time is final.
- Check the launcher. If maintenance has ended, the launcher may still need to download, apply, or verify Patch 7.57 before the Play control becomes available.
- Retry after the client finishes updating. A partially applied client can fail before authentication even when the service is back online.
- Recheck the scope if only one function fails. If login works but matchmaking or recruitment does not, look for a data-center or cross-world-function notice instead of treating it as a complete outage.
How to interpret a “server status” result
Scheduled maintenance
A scheduled-maintenance notice means the operator intentionally made the game unavailable for the stated work. During the October 12–13 window, that scope was all Worlds, so individual world selection or local network troubleshooting could not restore access.
Best Value
- Customer must have Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn to play Stormblood
- Increased level cap up to level 70
- New Jobs – Red Mage and Samurai
- New Beast Tribe and Primal
- New Alliance Raid
Revised completion estimate
A revised estimate changes the expected finish, not the original fact that maintenance was scheduled. The October 13 estimate of approximately 2:25 a.m. PDT was useful for planning, but it was not a recurring maintenance duration or a service-level guarantee.
Known issue after release
A known-issue notice indicates that maintenance may have completed while a specific problem remains under investigation or mitigation. Check whether the notice names your platform, data center, feature, or error symptom before assuming all services are unavailable.
Confirmed completion
A completion notice is the strongest indication that the planned work has ended. Even then, the launcher may have local download and verification work, and a separate regional or feature-specific notice may remain active.
What players should prepare before a large update
- Record the latest Lodestone maintenance timestamp in your own time zone.
- Ensure the device has more free storage than the launcher’s transfer figure.
- Allow time for downloading, unpacking, verification, and any launcher restart.
- Do not schedule a time-critical duty, raid, or event immediately at the estimated reopening minute.
- If you play on more than one platform, check each launcher separately; the displayed amount can differ.
- After login returns, read any known-issue notice before assuming a feature problem is caused by your account.
Bottom line for Patch 7.57
Patch 7.57’s documented all-world maintenance ran on a 24-hour GMT schedule from October 12 to October 13, 2026, with a later expected finish of approximately 2:25 a.m. PDT on October 13. The official notices do not publish a universal download size, so the launcher—not an estimate—is the correct source for your installation. For an answer to “Is FFXIV down?” use the newest Lodestone notice, identify its scope, and distinguish a scheduled window or revised estimate from a confirmed completion. The update also advanced same-region matching across worlds on the Japan data center, with expansion to other data centers dependent on stability.
