You cannot yet follow a verified public installation procedure for the Final Fantasy VII Remake two-player co-op mod. As of October 16, 2026, its creator described it as a beta that still needed bug fixes and polishing before a public release. No confirmed download page, package, dependency list, controller setup, or installation guide was available. The information below separates what the creator has actually described from the details that remain unknown.
Current availability: there is no verified public install package yet
The mod is not documented as a released, publicly downloadable project at the time of this update. In a Reddit discussion dated October 14–15, 2026, creator Christian Budd wrote: “Eventually I’d like to put it up for download from Nexus but it’s still beta – want a little more time to smooth out any bugs before releasing it to the public.”

That statement means a reader should not expect a working Nexus Mods download, a supported archive to extract, or official setup instructions today. It also means that a page claiming to provide the finished co-op files cannot be authenticated from the available information. Do not install an unofficial re-upload merely because its filename or screenshots resemble the project.
Release status can change quickly. Before attempting installation, check the creator’s latest public announcement and verify that any download is published by the creator or linked directly from that announcement. A future Nexus Mods page is a possible distribution destination, not a confirmed current listing.

What platform and co-op type are supported?
The creator’s initial announcement states: “This mod was built for the steam version of the game.” Steam is therefore the only explicitly stated target.
Epic Games Store support was described as conditional on development going to plan. It is not confirmed compatibility, and you should not assume that files or instructions for Steam will work with the Epic edition. The project was described as local co-op. No available statement establishes an online multiplayer mode, remote-play requirement, or network-server component.
| PC edition or mode | Status established by the creator | What you should assume |
|---|---|---|
| Steam edition | Explicitly stated development target | The most likely supported edition when a release arrives, subject to the release notes and supported game build. |
| Epic Games Store edition | Possible future support only; not confirmed | Do not install or troubleshoot it as though compatibility were guaranteed. |
| Local two-player co-op | Project scope described by the creator | Expect same-PC play unless final documentation says otherwise. |
| Online co-op | Not established | No evidence supports a networked mode, matchmaking, or an online service. |
Beta configuration features that have been described
The creator has mentioned several gameplay controls, but these are beta-stage descriptions rather than a final menu specification. Exact names, ranges, defaults, and locations may change before release.

ATB charge speed
Players were said to be able to adjust how quickly the Active Time Battle (ATB) gauge charges. A faster setting could make commands available more often, while a slower setting could make battles more deliberate. No numeric scale or final slider labels have been published, so there is no reliable value to enter now.

- Capture and share your memorable moments from the game with a fully customisable “Photo Mode”
- Players can enjoy immersive battles by using the DualSense PlayStation 5 controller with its haptic feedback integration
Hit points
The beta was also described as allowing players to raise hit-point amounts. The statement does not establish whether this applies to party members, enemies, both, or a global difficulty rule. It also does not establish whether the setting is changed in a menu, a configuration file, or an in-game host screen.
Pressure and stagger amounts
Pressure and stagger amounts were another reported adjustment. These terms relate to the combat conditions that build toward an enemy stagger, but the creator has not published the formula, permitted range, or per-player behavior. Treat any description of these controls as provisional until the release notes define them.
Player-one menu ownership
The creator said the menus were technically still tied to player one. That may affect which controller can open settings or confirm changes during local co-op. It does not establish a final controller-assignment workflow, and it is not a reason to edit unrelated game files.
Why FFVIIHook instructions are not co-op installation instructions
FFVIIHook is a separate utility mod. Its Nexus Mods page tells users to place xinput1_3.dll beside ff7remake_.exe and describes loading Unreal Engine 4 INI files from the user configuration folder. Those directions belong to FFVIIHook; they are not identified as a dependency or installation method for the two-player co-op project.

- Immerse yourself in the city of Midgar like never before, with improved textures, lighting, and background environments
- Players can Switch between two game modes:- "graphics mode" Prioritises 4K high-resolution graphics & - "performance mode" Prioritises smooth action at 60 frames per second
- Capture and share your memorable moments from the game with a fully customisable "Photo mode"
- Players can enjoy immersive battles by using the dual sense PlayStation 5 controller with its haptic feedback integration
Do not copy xinput1_3.dll, create FFVIIHook-style INI files, or change the user configuration folder solely because you want co-op. Doing so can introduce crashes or conflicts without providing the missing multiplayer code. Wait for the co-op release documentation to list every required file and dependency explicitly.
Installation details that have not been published
A complete installation guide would need to answer the following questions. None of these details is currently established for the co-op mod:
- Download location: whether the package will be hosted on Nexus Mods or elsewhere, and which account or file version is official.
- Game edition and build: the exact Steam release, executable version, and whether a game update can break compatibility.
- Dependencies: whether the mod requires a loader, runtime, DLL, framework, or another utility.
- Install destination: the exact folder or files to which the release archive should be copied.
- Load order: whether it must load before or after other mods.
- Controller assignment: how two pads are detected, which device is player one, and whether keyboard input is supported.
- Configuration location: whether settings live in an in-game menu, a separate launcher, an INI file, or a save-specific profile.
- Save and profile behavior: whether co-op settings alter existing saves or can be changed safely between sessions.
- Troubleshooting: where crash logs are written and which files should be removed to return to an unmodded installation.
- Epic support: whether the conditional plan ever became a tested, supported build.
Because these answers are missing, inventing a folder path or command would be more likely to damage the game installation than to produce a working co-op session.

What to check when a legitimate release appears
The following is a verification checklist for the eventual release, not a set of currently valid installation steps. Use the release’s own readme and changelog as the authority for each item.
Rank #4
- The Amazon Exclusive Edition includes a FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH PS5 controller skin (inside the case) featuring Cloud and Sephiroth. This PS5 controller skin provides full coverage without buttons or sensor interference.
- An Expansive World: As the party searches for Sephiroth, explore the beautiful, expansive regions of the world and open up new areas to discover through unique forms of transportation
- Deepen their relationships to unleash powerful team based combos
- An Evolved Battle System: Combine strategic thinking with thrilling action combat alongside your comrades, including newly added characters
- Beyond the Walls of Fate: In this standalone adventure for fans and newcomers, Cloud and his comrades venture across the planet, their fates unwritten, making each step outside the dystopian city of Midgar fresh and mysterious
- Confirm authorship. Start from the creator’s announcement and follow its direct download link. Check that the account, project name, and file history match the announcement.
- Read the supported-build line. Record whether the package targets Steam only, which game version it expects, and whether it supports a particular regional or deluxe edition.
- List every dependency. Install only components named by the co-op documentation. Do not substitute FFVIIHook or another loader unless the author explicitly lists it.
- Back up unmodded files and saves. Keep a copy of the original game files and user configuration before replacing anything. Use the platform client’s file-verification feature only after removing the mod according to its own uninstall instructions.
- Follow the stated destination exactly. If the readme names an executable directory, configuration directory, launcher, or mod manager, use that path rather than a path copied from another utility.
- Connect controllers before launching. Once the release documents the supported devices, connect both pads in the required order and check which one is assigned to player one. The beta note about menus belonging to player one makes this check particularly important.
- Test a small local session first. Start with a new test encounter or a backed-up save. Confirm that both players can control characters, open or close menus, and return to single-player safely before changing difficulty-related settings.
- Change one gameplay option at a time. If the final build exposes ATB, hit-point, or pressure/stagger controls, record the default value, change one setting, and verify the result. This makes it possible to identify a bad setting without confusing several changes.
- Keep the release notes. Save the version number and known-issues list. A later game patch may require a new co-op build even if the original installation worked.
How to handle common claims before release
“There is already a download, so these must be the official steps.”
A file-hosting page or video is not proof of an official release. Without a creator-linked announcement and version information, treat it as unverified. The creator’s public statement still described the project as beta and unreleased.
“Steam and Epic use the same PC files, so Epic should work.”
That conclusion is not supported. Steam is the stated target; Epic support was only a conditional possibility. Different launchers and executable layouts can require separate builds or loaders.
“FFVIIHook places a DLL beside the executable, so co-op must use the same method.”
That conflates two projects. FFVIIHook’s file placement is specific to FFVIIHook. The co-op project has not identified it as a dependency.
Recommended Free Tools
“The mod has adjustable combat values, so there must be published recommended numbers.”
No ranges, presets, performance figures, or balance recommendations have been published. The only established information is that the creator described adjustable ATB charge speed, hit points, and pressure/stagger amounts in the beta.
Practical conclusion for PC players
There is currently no verified public package or installation path for the Final Fantasy VII Remake two-player co-op mod. Steam is the reported target, Epic compatibility remains unconfirmed, and the project has been described as local co-op rather than online multiplayer. The beta notes mention adjustable ATB charging, hit points, and pressure/stagger values, with menus still technically controlled by player one, but they do not provide final settings or setup instructions.
Until the creator publishes a supported release, the safest course is to wait for the official announcement, read its exact build and dependency requirements, and avoid borrowing DLL or INI instructions from FFVIIHook or any other unrelated mod.
