If you want to play one of these games now, choose FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE. Ever Crisis was a free-to-play mobile and PC RPG that assembled stories from across the Final Fantasy VII timeline, added new material such as young Sephiroth’s journey, and experimented with seasonal and crossover content. Its service ended on October 6, 2026, at 11:00 p.m. PDT, so it is no longer a currently playable alternative. Remake Intergrade is the available, premium-style action RPG: an authored reconstruction of the original game’s Midgar section, expanded with the Yuffie-led FF7R EPISODE INTERmission.

The comparison still matters because the two projects had very different goals. Ever Crisis was an omnibus-style retelling built around a service game, customizable teams, equipment, and co-op. Remake Intergrade is a focused, cinematic campaign built around real-time movement, timed commands, and a single remake storyline.

What each game is trying to be

“Ever Crisis vs. Final Fantasy VII Remake” sounds like a direct remake-versus-remake contest, but the products are not structured as substitutes. Square Enix presented Ever Crisis as “Another Possibility for a Remake”: a way to revisit memorable Final Fantasy VII moments while combining material from the original game and its wider compilation with newly written episodes. Remake Intergrade is the first part of a planned three-part remake project. It retells the opening Midgar portion as one continuous, modern campaign.

Story and scope: anthology breadth versus a rebuilt Midgar

Ever Crisis covers more of the Final Fantasy VII universe

Ever Crisis was designed as a broad survey of Final Fantasy VII history rather than a single replacement for the 1997 game. Its premise allowed Square Enix to revisit recognizable scenes while adding chapters that were not in the original storyline. The most prominent new thread was the journey of a young Sephiroth, giving the game an opportunity to develop a character whose earlier life was largely unexplored in the original title.

  • Immerse yourself in the city of Midgar like never before, with improved textures, lighting, and background environments
  • Players can switch between two game modes: "Graphics Mode" prioritizes 4K high-resolution graphics; "Performance Mode" prioritizes smooth action at 60 frames per second
  • Capture and share your memorable moments from the game with a fully customizable “Photo Mode”
  • Players can enjoy immersive battles by using the DualSense PlayStation 5 controller with its haptic feedback integration
  • Play the brand-new episode featuring Yuffie and experience new combat and gameplay additions

The project also aimed to bring together material associated with the wider Final Fantasy VII compilation. In practical terms, that meant a player could encounter story material connected to different eras and casts instead of progressing through only Cloud’s Midgar adventure. Seasonal and crossover episodes added further content outside a fixed, linear campaign. That structure made Ever Crisis useful as a historical sampler: it could place familiar moments, side stories, and new scenes in one service-based package.

However, “more of the timeline” does not mean a longer version of Remake’s campaign. Ever Crisis organized its material into chapters, events, and updates, with content delivered over the life of the service. Its final story chapter had been planned for the game’s third anniversary on September 6, 2026 PDT, but the service subsequently shut down. That anniversary plan is therefore a historical development detail, not an upcoming chapter readers can wait to play.

Remake Intergrade concentrates on one authored retelling

Remake Intergrade takes the opening portion of Final Fantasy VII and rebuilds it as a modern, directed adventure. The story follows the party through its escape from Midgar, expanding locations, character relationships, set pieces, and the consequences of the original game’s opening events. It is not an anthology of every Final Fantasy VII era; its strength is sustained pacing and a consistent dramatic viewpoint.

The Intergrade product also includes FF7R EPISODE INTERmission, a separate Yuffie-focused story. Intermission follows Yuffie’s mission in Midgar and provides a playable perspective distinct from the main party’s campaign. When comparing “Remake” with Ever Crisis, make sure this episode is counted: the current product listing is Intergrade, not merely the base Midgar campaign.

Which story structure fits which reader?

  • Choose the Ever Crisis concept, historically, if your interest is seeing many Final Fantasy VII eras, compilation connections, event stories, and a new young-Sephiroth thread in one place.
  • Choose Remake Intergrade if you want a single, authored narrative with cinematic continuity, a developed Midgar setting, and a dedicated Yuffie episode.
  • Do not treat Ever Crisis as a currently accessible archive. Its former story breadth does not imply that those chapters remain playable after service closure.

Combat: Active Time Combat and party building versus action-command play

How Ever Crisis handled battles

Ever Crisis adapted Final Fantasy VII’s Active Time Combat into a format built around teams, equipment, and selectable commands. Official materials highlighted customizable character parties and gear, along with both solo and co-op battles. The systems called Command Stance and Limit Combo gave players additional ways to manage attacks and coordinate powerful abilities.

This model puts emphasis on preparing a roster and loadout as well as choosing actions during a fight. Party composition, weapon and equipment choices, and the timing of commands all belong to the same loop. Co-op adds a social mode that does not have a direct equivalent in Remake Intergrade’s campaign structure.

Because Ever Crisis was a service RPG, its combat was also connected to ongoing content and progression systems. The official game page described it as free-to-play with in-app purchases during its service period. That description explains the original access model; it does not make the closed service downloadable or playable today.

How Remake Intergrade handles battles

Remake Intergrade combines direct action with command selection. Characters move and attack in real time, and normal attacks build the ATB gauge. Once an ATB segment is available, you can pause the flow of combat to select magic, abilities, items, or other commands. Limit breaks and summons add high-impact options as battles develop.

The result is a two-layer control scheme. Positioning, evasion, guarding, target selection, and ordinary attacks happen immediately, while the ATB system lets you make deliberate tactical choices without abandoning the action format. You can also switch between party members to use the character whose weapon, ability, or available command best suits the moment.

The practical combat difference

Question Ever Crisis Remake Intergrade
What you control most directly Commands, party configuration, gear, and timing within an adapted Active Time Combat system Movement and attacks in real time, with ATB-powered commands layered on top
Party and multiplayer Customizable parties; official materials list solo and co-op battles Party members in a directed single-player campaign; co-op is not stated in the cited product description
Signature systems named by Square Enix Command Stance and Limit Combo ATB gauge, magic, abilities, limit breaks, and summons
Progression emphasis Equipment and party construction within a service RPG Action execution plus command selection in a fixed campaign

Neither system can be declared universally better from the available evidence. Players who enjoy configuring teams and responding through a menu-oriented battle flow may prefer Ever Crisis’s design in principle. Players who want immediate movement and attacks, with commands available at a tactical pause, will find Remake Intergrade’s approach more direct. Difficulty, depth, and personal enjoyment should not be inferred from the format alone.

Platforms, release history, and whether you can access them now

Ever Crisis platforms before shutdown

Ever Crisis launched on iOS and Android on September 7, 2023. A Steam release followed on December 6, 2023. Square Enix described cross-save between mobile and Steam, so an account could carry progress across those supported versions during the service’s lifetime. The official game page still lists iOS, Android, and Steam, but that listing represents the game’s platform history and should not be read as proof of current access.

Square Enix announced that the service ended on October 6, 2026, at 11:00 p.m. PDT. The company said in-game events were scheduled to run until shutdown and that account information would be deleted after the end-of-service procedures. Its notice specifies refunds for unused paid Red Crystals for Taiwan residents only. The cited official information does not establish an offline archive, preservation build, or post-shutdown single-player mode.

Remake Intergrade platforms currently listed

The current product listing names PlayStation 5, Steam, Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows. The listing gives January 22, 2026 as the release date for the Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows versions; the PlayStation 5, Steam, and Epic Games Store versions were released earlier.

Store availability can vary by country, account region, edition, and platform storefront. Before buying, open the store page for your region and verify that it says FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE, confirms the platform you own, and includes the Intermission content if that is important to you. The platform list establishes where the product is offered, not a universal price, physical format, or current inventory on every retailer.

Current availability changes the comparison

For a reader making a purchase or download decision on October 16, 2026, the practical choice is not between two live services. Remake Intergrade is the available option among these products according to the cited official listings. Ever Crisis can be discussed as a historical game and as part of Final Fantasy VII’s recent media history, but it should not be advertised as downloadable, active, or recoverable through a normal store installation.

The closure also affects how to interpret old guides, screenshots, videos, and platform pages. A page that mentions mobile or Steam support may be accurately describing the launch period while being obsolete about access. Likewise, Ever Crisis’s historical free-to-play label and in-app purchase system do not indicate a current way to spend money or continue an account.

What the published numbers do—and do not—tell you

Square Enix reported more than 7 million Ever Crisis downloads on iOS and Android before the Steam release in 2023. That is a publisher-reported historical download figure, not a current player count, an active-user measurement, or a lifetime total across every platform.

No directly comparable official statistic is established here for Remake Intergrade sales, Ever Crisis active players, or review scores. It would be misleading to turn the 7-million figure into a claim that one game is more popular or better received. The available evidence supports a comparison of design, story scope, platforms, and access—not a ranking based on unsupported numbers.

Decision guide: which one matches your goal?

You want to play a Final Fantasy VII game today

Remake Intergrade is the clear choice because it remains listed for current console and PC platforms. Verify your region’s store page and edition, then select the version for PlayStation 5, Steam, Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, or Windows that matches your hardware.

You want the broadest historical coverage

Ever Crisis was built for that purpose, combining classic timeline material, compilation-related stories, seasonal events, and new scenes such as young Sephiroth’s journey. That breadth is now a historical description, however; the end-of-service announcement means those chapters are not established as playable through an official offline mode.

You prefer real-time control

Remake Intergrade foregrounds movement, normal attacks, ATB charging, and command selection during active battles. Its combat is the closer fit for someone who wants an action RPG interface rather than a predominantly party-and-loadout-driven service format.

You prefer roster and equipment management

Ever Crisis emphasized customizable parties and gear, with Command Stance, Limit Combo, and solo or co-op battles. Those systems describe why the game appealed to players who enjoyed building teams and managing equipment, even though the service is no longer running.

You specifically want Yuffie’s Midgar story

Choose Remake Intergrade, whose package includes FF7R EPISODE INTERmission. Ever Crisis’s compilation approach should not be confused with this dedicated, authored Yuffie episode.

Frequently misunderstood points

  • Ever Crisis is not simply a mobile version of Remake. It uses a different structure, broader timeline coverage, and a different combat model.
  • Remake Intergrade is not the complete three-part remake project. The official description identifies it as the first part and focuses on the Midgar escape.
  • Intergrade is the relevant current product name. When a store or article says “Final Fantasy VII Remake,” check whether it means the Intergrade listing and whether Intermission is included.
  • An old platform listing does not override the closure notice. Ever Crisis’s iOS, Android, and Steam history remains useful for identifying where it ran, but it does not establish current service access.

Verdict

Ever Crisis and Remake Intergrade served different audiences. Ever Crisis offered a wide, update-driven tour through Final Fantasy VII material, with young Sephiroth content, customizable teams, gear, and co-op inside an adapted Active Time Combat system. Remake Intergrade delivered a concentrated, cinematic reconstruction of Midgar, expanded with Yuffie’s Intermission episode and controlled through real-time action plus ATB commands.

That distinction would normally make the choice depend on taste. After October 6, 2026, availability is decisive: Ever Crisis is closed, while Remake Intergrade remains the listed playable product. Treat Ever Crisis as a historical comparison, and verify your local platform and edition before obtaining Intergrade.
