Short answer: the snowy mountain route toward the North Crater in Final Fantasy VII Revelation uses stamina as an actual traversal mechanic. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed that players must manage stamina while climbing. Preview coverage also says Piko’s sprinting and traversal skills consume stamina, and that an empty bar can leave Piko walking. However, Revelation is not released yet, so there is no verified stamina cap, drain rate, recovery timer, refill item, checkpoint rule or stamina-related evasion technique.
What the cliff-stamina system is
The cliff section is not presented as ordinary scenery that the party simply walks across. It is a route-management challenge in which stamina affects how the group reaches the snowy mountain and, ultimately, the North Crater. In a Siliconera report dated October 16, 2026, director Naoki Hamaguchi described the design directly: “The stamina when climbing the snowy mountain is also incorporated as a gameplay element in this game.”
That statement confirms the existence and purpose of the system, but it does not define its numbers. The available previews establish a qualitative mechanic rather than a complete ruleset. Players should therefore separate what is confirmed from what is merely familiar from other games.
- Stamina is used during snowy mountain or cliff traversal.
- Piko’s sprinting consumes stamina.
- Piko’s traversal skills also consume stamina.
- When the bar is emptied, preview coverage says Piko may be forced to walk.
- The grappling gun provides a separate way to reach vertical, anchor-based sections.
Nothing in the current material proves that running out of stamina causes an immediate fall, damage, a forced restart or a timed failure. Those outcomes may or may not exist in the finished game; they are not documented facts yet.

What is confirmed and what is still unknown
The following distinction is the most useful way to read every current cliff-stamina claim. A preview can show that an action uses stamina without revealing the size of the bar or the exact conditions for recovery.
| Question | Current answer | Evidence status |
|---|---|---|
| Does the snowy cliff use stamina? | Yes. Hamaguchi identified stamina management during the snowy-mountain climb as a gameplay element. | Confirmed by the director’s October 2026 comment. |
| Does Piko sprinting drain stamina? | Yes. Preview coverage says sprinting consumes the bar. | Confirmed in previews. |
| Do Piko’s traversal skills drain stamina? | Yes. Traversal skills are described as stamina-consuming actions. | Confirmed in previews. |
| What is the maximum stamina? | Not stated. | No verified number has been published. |
| How much stamina does one sprint or skill cost? | Not stated. | No drain-rate figure has been published. |
| How quickly does stamina return? | Not stated. | No recovery speed or timer has been documented. |
| Does walking regenerate the bar? | Not established. | Walking after depletion is reported, but regeneration while walking is not confirmed. |
| Is there a fixed refill point or checkpoint? | Not stated. | No guaranteed trigger is documented. |
| Is there a Revelation stamina potion or tonic? | No verified item is known before launch. | Reports of 50- or 100-point tonics refer to Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, a different game. |
| Does evasion reduce or bypass stamina costs? | Not established. | Current cliff previews do not document a stamina-related evasion stat, dodge bonus or ability. |
Any guide that gives an exact cap, a precise number of seconds, or a guaranteed refill route is going beyond the currently documented information unless it cites a later official release source or in-game testing from the launched version.
How Piko and the grappling gun differ
Piko handles ground traversal
Piko is the stamina-dependent option for moving across the route on the ground. Sprinting is faster than ordinary movement but spends stamina, and the same resource is used by Piko’s traversal skills. That makes the bar relevant even when the player is not climbing a single vertical face: spending it on a long approach can leave less available for the steep section that follows.
The practical implication is to treat sprinting as a limited resource rather than a default movement state. The previews do not publish an exact distance or duration that Piko can cover, so the safe assumption before launch is simply to avoid unnecessary expenditure when the route ahead visibly demands traversal.
The grappling gun handles anchor-based vertical movement
The grappling gun is not described as a stamina potion, a regeneration tool or a way to refill Piko’s bar. It is a separate route solution for sections built around grappling anchors. When the intended path presents an anchor and vertical reach, the grappling gun is the appropriate movement method instead of trying to spend Piko’s stamina on an action that the route does not require.

- Produced with the highest grade materials
- Great for everyday use.
This distinction matters because “use the grappling gun to save stamina” can be misleading if it is read as a universal exploit. The confirmed information supports a narrower rule: use Piko for the ground traversal the route assigns to Piko, and use the grappling gun for anchor-based vertical movement. Whether a particular shortcut consumes, preserves or ignores stamina will need to be checked in the released game.
| Traversal choice | What it is documented to do | What remains unknown |
|---|---|---|
| Piko sprint | Speeds ground travel and consumes stamina. | Exact cost, maximum duration and recovery conditions. |
| Piko traversal skill | Provides traversal and consumes stamina. | Cost per skill, cooldown interaction and whether all skills have the same drain. |
| Normal movement | Allows ordinary travel; no published stamina cost is specified. | Whether walking regenerates stamina and whether terrain changes the rate. |
| Grappling gun | Reaches vertical sections that use anchors. | Whether any setup, ammunition, cooldown or other restriction applies. |
What to do on the cliff before launch data exists
Because the game is unreleased, these are conservative habits based only on the documented behavior. They are not a claim that the finished game has a particular meter size or checkpoint layout.
Recommended Free Tools
- Ride normally on safe ground. Do not begin a long approach by holding sprint continuously. Preserve the resource until the route shows that fast movement or a traversal skill is necessary.
- Read the terrain before committing. Look for steep sections, traversal prompts and grappling anchors. Decide whether the next action belongs to Piko or to the grappling gun before spending stamina.
- Use sprint for a reason. Spend it to cross exposed ground, reach a timing-sensitive position or complete a required approach, not simply because sprint is available.
- Reserve stamina for required traversal. Since Piko’s traversal skills consume the same resource, avoid arriving at a steep movement segment with an already-depleted bar.
- Choose the grappling gun at anchors. If the route is built around an anchor and vertical reach, switch to the grappling gun rather than trying to solve that section with Piko’s stamina-based movement.
- If the bar empties, stop forcing speed. Preview coverage indicates that Piko may be forced to walk. Let the game show the resulting behavior instead of assuming an automatic fall or restart.
- Record the actual launch behavior. Once the game is available, check the meter’s maximum, the cost of each action, the first moment regeneration begins and any checkpoint or item that restores it.
This approach minimizes the only confirmed pre-release risk: spending Piko’s stamina on optional movement and then lacking it for a required traversal action.
What happens when stamina runs out?
The strongest current answer is that Piko can be forced to walk after the bar is emptied. That is a movement consequence, not proof of a fail state. No available preview establishes that depletion automatically knocks Piko from the mountain, deals damage, reloads the previous checkpoint or starts a recovery countdown.
Do not treat “forced walking” as proof that the route is safe after depletion either. A walking state could still make a later climb slower or leave the party vulnerable to whatever hazards the final game includes. The responsible pre-release guidance is to preserve stamina for the required route while recognizing that the exact penalty for poor management has not been published.

Is there an evasion trick for the cliff?
No verified evasion trick is documented. The current cliff previews do not describe an evasion stat that lowers stamina consumption, a dodge that bypasses traversal costs, or an ability that lets the party ignore the stamina bar. Claims that dodging always avoids the system are therefore speculation.
There are two different ideas that should not be conflated:
- Combat or hazard evasion: avoiding an attack or danger, if such an action is available in a given encounter.
- Traversal routing: selecting Piko’s ground movement or the grappling gun’s anchor-based movement.
The confirmed route distinction is the second one. Switching tools at an anchor is supported by the previews; an evasion-based stamina bypass is not. After launch, a reliable answer would require an in-game description, official documentation or repeatable testing showing that a specific dodge or stat changes stamina behavior.
Why Ever Crisis stamina tonics do not answer this question
Some online discussion mentions 50-point or 100-point stamina tonics. Those reports concern Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, not Final Fantasy VII Revelation. A consumable in one game cannot establish the cap, item names or refill rules in another game, even when both use the Final Fantasy VII setting.
Until Revelation itself documents a tonic, potion, food, checkpoint or other restoration method, the correct answer to “What item refills cliff stamina?” is that no verified refill item has been announced.

What to verify when Revelation launches
The first complete guide should measure the system in a controlled way rather than copy assumptions from another title. The useful facts to check are:
- Starting maximum stamina and whether the cap changes with progression, equipment or party state.
- Drain from one second of sprinting on level ground.
- Drain from each Piko traversal skill.
- Whether terrain, incline or weather changes the rate.
- When regeneration starts after sprinting or a skill.
- Whether walking, standing still, riding or grappling restores the bar.
- Whether restoration is continuous, segmented or tied to a checkpoint.
- What happens at zero: walking, inability to use a skill, damage, falling, a reset or another consequence.
- Whether any item, ability, upgrade or evasion-related stat modifies the system.
Those measurements should be attributed to the released version and its platform or update, because a later patch could change costs or recovery behavior. Until such data exists, qualitative advice is more reliable than invented numbers.
