Which Australian mobile plan gives me unlimited data, and how does Felix compare? Felix is the clearest fit when you want an unlimited allowance with a published, predictable speed ceiling rather than a large full-speed bucket followed by a severe slowdown. Its standard Unlimited tier is capped at up to 40 Mbps, while Unlimited+ raises the cap to up to 80 Mbps. Both are month-to-month services with unlimited standard local calls and texts. The important qualification is that the advertised cap is not a guaranteed throughput, and Felix restricts tethering to personal devices rather than allowing the service to replace home broadband.
The comparison below separates a genuinely unlimited allowance from “endless” plans that continue only after a finite high-speed allowance has been consumed. Prices and terms reflect provider information checked on 12 October 2026; introductory offers, eligibility, coverage and plan rules can change, so verify the live critical-information summary before signing up.
Felix plans at a glance
Felix Mobile’s official listing presents two relevant unlimited plans. The standard plan is aimed at everyday mobile activity, while Unlimited+ is positioned for people who want faster downloads of larger files. In both cases, “unlimited” describes the amount of data available; it does not promise a particular speed in every location.
| Plan | Ongoing monthly price | Promotion and eligibility | Data and speed | Calls and texts | Network and contract | Tethering and home-internet rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Felix Unlimited | $40 per month after the introductory price | The listing showed a time-limited introductory offer for eligible customers; amount, end date and eligibility conditions must be checked on the live offer. | Unlimited data at speeds up to 40 Mbps; there is no separate high-speed allowance stated. | Unlimited standard local calls and texts. | 4G and 5G access subject to device and coverage; no lock-in contract; monthly renewal until cancellation. | Tethering is permitted to personal devices only. Use in a modem or as a substitute for home or office internet is prohibited. |
| Felix Unlimited+ | $50 per month | Check the live listing for any promotion and eligibility conditions. | Unlimited data at speeds up to 80 Mbps; a 5G-compatible device and 5G coverage are required to use 5G. | Unlimited standard local calls and texts. | 4G and 5G access subject to device and coverage; no lock-in contract; monthly renewal until cancellation. | The same personal-device tethering restriction applies; it is not a permitted replacement for home broadband. |
Felix states that its data is for use in Australia within Vodafone network coverage. A coverage check for the places where you live, work and travel is therefore more useful than treating the plan’s speed cap as a nationwide performance guarantee.

What “unlimited” means in practice
Felix’s fixed-cap model
Felix puts no stated monthly data ceiling on the plans above, then limits the maximum connection speed for the whole service. You can continue using data after heavy use without moving into a separately defined post-allowance tier, but the connection remains subject to the plan’s cap and to real-world network conditions.
The allowance-then-slow model
Many competing offers use “unlimited,” “endless” or “no excess data charges” to describe a different arrangement: a finite amount of data at the plan’s normal speed, followed by continued access at a lower maximum speed. That can be useful if you mainly need messaging and light browsing after the allowance is exhausted, but it is not equivalent to unlimited full-speed data.
Optus describes its Endless Data support option this way: eligible services continue “at a maximum speed of 1.5Mbps once you’ve used your shared data allowance at no extra charge.” The shared allowance and the conditions attached to a particular Optus plan still need to be checked, because the post-allowance speed does not tell you how much data is available before the slowdown.

A plan with a large high-speed allowance can feel unlimited until a household shares the connection, downloads large files or streams frequently. Conversely, a fixed-cap unlimited plan can be easier to budget because there is no need to predict whether you will cross a monthly allowance. The trade-off is that a moderate cap may make large downloads take longer than they would on a premium uncapped service.

Comparison table: the fields that actually decide value
The table separates confirmed Felix and Optus details from the broader competitor landscape. “Not stated” means the precise figure was not established in the provider information available for this comparison; it is not evidence that a plan has no allowance, no restriction or no charge.
| Provider and offer | Ongoing monthly price | Promotional price, eligibility and end date | High-speed data allowance | Speed after allowance | Maximum speed before allowance is exhausted | 4G/5G and local coverage | Contract and renewal | Hotspot, modem and home-broadband restrictions | Calls, texts and roaming |

TechRadar’s 8 October 2026 market comparison names Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Belong, Aussie Broadband and Dodo among providers with some form of continued data after an included allowance, and describes Felix as offering uncapped data at fixed speed caps. That overview is useful for finding candidates, but it does not establish each provider’s current price, allowance, post-allowance speed or eligibility. Confirm those fields on the provider’s own plan page and critical-information summary.
Speed caps are ceilings, not promises
The figures in Felix’s listing are maximum speeds. Actual throughput can be lower because of the handset’s radio capabilities, signal strength, location, local coverage, network congestion and the number of users sharing a cell. A phone that supports only 4G cannot use a 5G-only benefit, and a compatible phone still needs 5G coverage at the location and time of use.
Use the cap as a way to compare plan design, not as a guarantee that a speed test will always show that number. Test or observe service at the places that matter: inside your home, at work, on the commute and at regular travel destinations. Congestion can produce different results at busy evening periods than at quiet times.

When the higher tier is useful
Unlimited+ is most defensible when faster transfer of large files matters and you have both a compatible 5G handset and reliable 5G coverage. If your phone is usually on 4G or your use is mostly messaging, maps, social apps and ordinary browsing, paying for a higher ceiling may not change the experience. Felix itself frames the lower tier as suitable for everyday activity and the higher tier as better for larger downloads.
Coverage and network checks before signing up
- List your real locations. Write down the home address, workplace, regular indoor venues and routes where you need data. A national brand name does not tell you how a particular building or rural road performs.
- Open the provider’s coverage map. Check both 4G and 5G layers where relevant. Treat map shading as an indication, not a promise; buildings, terrain and congestion can alter service.
- Check device compatibility. For Unlimited+, confirm that the handset supports the required 5G bands and that it is not carrier-locked. A 5G plan cannot create 5G service on incompatible hardware.
- Ask about roaming separately. Felix’s listed inclusions cover standard local calls and texts; international roaming details are not stated in the plan facts above. Do not assume domestic unlimited data includes overseas use.
- Compare the network where you will use the phone. A lower-priced plan on a network with weak indoor reception can be less useful than a costlier plan that works consistently in your locations.
Tethering is not the same as home broadband
Felix’s terms state: “Tethering permitted to personal devices only, but must not be used in a modem or as a substitute for a home internet service.” In practical terms, connecting a laptop or tablet to your phone for personal use is permitted, while putting the SIM in a dedicated modem, router or hotspot intended to serve a household is not.
This restriction matters even though the data allowance is unlimited. A plan can be excellent for a phone and occasional personal tethering while being unsuitable for a family’s primary connection, remote-work setup or always-on home network. If your objective is replacing fixed broadband, choose a service whose terms expressly allow that use and compare its congestion policy, equipment requirements and installation conditions.
Price, promotions and renewal rules
Use the ongoing rate in your budget
Felix’s standard Unlimited price is the relevant figure for a long-term comparison. The official listing also showed an introductory offer for eligible customers, but a promotional amount should not be treated as an evergreen rate. Record the offer’s eligibility test, duration, renewal price and any requirement to activate by a particular date.

Understand the legacy-price change
Felix’s January 2026 notice said the standard price for its 40 Mbps unlimited plan had been $40 per month since September 2023. Customers on an older discount were to move to the standard rate at a renewal on or after 5 January 2026. If you are comparing an old article or a saved quote that still shows $35, treat it as stale and check the current account price.
Monthly renewal and cancellation
Both Felix plans are described as having no lock-in contract and renewing monthly until cancellation. That flexibility reduces the cost of testing coverage or switching later, but it does not freeze the price. Save the renewal amount shown at checkout and review the next billing date before cancelling or moving your number.
How to compare any alternative plan step by step
- Identify the exact plan name. “Unlimited” or “endless” is a marketing label; record the plan’s edition, prepaid or postpaid status and whether the offer is for new, returning or existing customers.
- Write down the ongoing monthly price. Put the renewal price in the first column of your notes, then record any introductory price separately with its end date and eligibility conditions.
- Find the full-speed allowance. Determine whether data is unlimited at the advertised speed or whether a finite allowance is consumed first. If the allowance is shared across multiple services, note that explicitly.
- Record the post-allowance speed. “No extra charge” does not mean “no slowdown.” Capture the stated maximum after the allowance, and check whether the speed applies to all traffic or excludes particular services.
- Record any pre-allowance speed cap. Some plans publish a maximum even while data remains; others describe only a typical or network-dependent speed. Do not compare a maximum cap with an unqualified marketing phrase.
- Check coverage and device rules. Confirm the underlying network, 4G/5G availability, compatible bands, eSIM or SIM requirements and coverage at your actual locations.
- Read use restrictions. Look specifically for hotspot, modem, router, peer-to-peer, commercial-use and home-internet clauses. Felix’s personal-device tethering rule is a clear example of why this step matters.
- Check inclusions beyond data. Verify standard calls, texts, international calls, voicemail, roaming and any shared-data rules instead of assuming they match another plan.
- Check contract and exit terms. Note lock-in periods, notice requirements, remaining device repayments, number-porting conditions and what happens to unused data.
- Recheck on the day you order. Promotions and critical-information summaries can change. Save a copy of the terms that applied when you signed up.
Which type of user fits which option?
Choose Felix Unlimited when predictable, moderate speed is enough
The standard tier fits a phone user who wants to stop monitoring a monthly data meter, mainly performs ordinary mobile tasks and values a lower ongoing price than the faster tier. It is also the simpler choice when your handset or local coverage does not make reliable 5G practical.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Choose Felix Unlimited+ when transfer speed is the constraint
The higher tier makes sense when large downloads are frequent, the additional monthly cost is acceptable and both the handset and locations support 5G. It does not remove congestion or guarantee the cap, so confirm that the network performs well before treating the upgrade as a solution.

Choose an allowance-then-slow plan when light fallback data is enough
A competing plan can be better value if you rarely exceed its high-speed allowance and mainly want continued messaging, navigation and basic browsing afterward. Read the reduced-speed limit carefully; activities that work comfortably at full speed may become frustrating after the allowance is consumed.
Do not choose a phone plan as a substitute for fixed service without permission
If several people, televisions, computers or smart-home devices will depend on the connection, a phone plan’s tethering clause may rule it out even when its data is unlimited. Compare a properly supported home service instead of assuming a phone SIM can be installed in a router.
What happens when you use all your data?
On Felix’s listed plans, there is no stated monthly high-speed bucket to exhaust; the service remains unlimited but subject to the plan’s maximum speed and network conditions. On an allowance-then-slow competitor, reaching the allowance changes the connection to the provider’s post-allowance maximum. The practical question is therefore not simply “Is data unlimited?” but “How much data remains at the speed I need, and what happens next?”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBefore switching, ask the provider to identify the exact trigger for the slowdown, whether the allowance is shared, when it resets, whether unused data rolls over and whether video, hotspot or other traffic is treated differently. Keep the answer with the plan’s price and coverage notes; those details determine the real cost of heavy use.
Quick Recap
Common comparison mistakes and fixes
- Comparing an introductory price with an ongoing price: place the renewal amount first and label the promotion separately.
- Equating “uncapped data” with uncapped speed: Felix’s plans have unlimited data but published maximum-speed ceilings.
- Assuming a speed cap is guaranteed: device, location, coverage and congestion can all reduce actual throughput.
- Ignoring the phone: a 5G plan cannot deliver 5G on a handset that lacks compatible support.
- Using a phone plan in a modem: Felix’s terms expressly prohibit modem use and home-internet substitution.
- Trusting a generic competitor list: a market overview can identify providers, but the exact plan, allowance, speed and eligibility must come from the current provider terms.
- Forgetting roaming: domestic calls, texts and data inclusions do not establish overseas access or pricing.
- Relying on an old price: the legacy $35 Felix figure was superseded for affected customers at renewals from 5 January 2026.
A practical pre-switch checklist
- Confirm the plan’s ongoing monthly price and the date any promotion ends.
- Confirm whether “unlimited” means unlimited at the stated cap or a finite high-speed allowance followed by reduced speed.
- Record the maximum speed before and after any allowance, including units.
- Check the coverage map at home, work and regular travel locations.
- Verify handset compatibility, SIM or eSIM support and 5G requirements.
- Read hotspot, modem, router and home-broadband restrictions.
- Check calls, texts, voicemail, international use and roaming separately.
- Confirm contract length, renewal timing, cancellation and number-porting rules.
- Save the critical-information summary and promotion terms shown at checkout.
- After activation, test calls and data at the locations and times that matter before cancelling your previous service.
