Raise the Nintendo Switch screen brightness first. In handheld or tabletop mode, hold the HOME button for at least one second, move the brightness slider up, and temporarily disable Auto-Brightness on Switch or Switch OLED. If you play docked, adjust the television’s Game or picture settings only after checking the console and the game’s own menus. Feed the Deep is built around dark undersea caves, limited oxygen and hostile wildlife, so a small display adjustment can make hazards and resources easier to distinguish without changing the game itself.
Why Feed the Deep can be difficult to see
Nintendo describes Feed the Deep as “A lovecraftian roguelike” in which you “Dive into procedurally generated undersea caves.” Its official description specifically calls out dark spaces, limited oxygen and hostile wildlife, alongside resource collection and upgrades. Darkness is therefore part of the game’s presentation and challenge, not evidence that your Switch is malfunctioning.
Visibility also depends on where you play. A handheld screen viewed in a bright room can look dim even when its backlight is working normally. Reflections, a low battery, a dark television picture preset or an active automatic brightness sensor can all make cave details harder to pick out. Work through the display settings in order: console brightness, automatic brightness, the game’s own options and, only for docked play, the television.

Handheld and tabletop mode
- Wake the Switch and start or resume Feed the Deep.
- Hold the HOME button for at least one second. This opens Quick Settings without closing the game.
- Move the Screen Brightness slider upward while looking at a dark cave scene.
- Stop when walls, passages and objects are distinguishable without making pale areas look uniformly white.
Quick Settings is the practical choice when a room becomes brighter or darker during a session. You can change the level and return to the game immediately. Increase it gradually rather than jumping to maximum; an excessively bright screen can flatten the difference between a light object and the surrounding water, while also using more battery.

The full System Settings route
If you want to set brightness before launching the game, open System Settings from the HOME Menu and choose Screen Brightness in the left-hand menu. Nintendo’s general navigation places display controls in this system-settings area. Move the slider, then return to the HOME Menu and launch Feed the Deep.
The two routes control the same console display level. Quick Settings is faster during a dive; System Settings is useful when you are configuring the console for a particular room or play session.
Turn off Auto-Brightness while diagnosing visibility
On a standard Nintendo Switch and on Nintendo Switch OLED, Auto-Brightness can change the screen in response to ambient light. A sensor may react when you move from a desk into a darker room, when a lamp is switched on, or when your hand covers part of the console. Those changes can be mistaken for inconsistent game lighting.
- Open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
- Select System in the left menu.
- Open the console’s display or brightness controls and locate Auto-Brightness.
- Turn Auto-Brightness off temporarily.
- Return to Feed the Deep and set a manual brightness level with Quick Settings or the Screen Brightness page.
The exact menu presentation can vary slightly with system software, but the relevant control is the Auto-Brightness option documented by Nintendo. Leaving it disabled is useful when you want repeatable comparisons between rooms. Re-enable it later if you prefer the console to respond automatically to changing light.

Nintendo Switch Lite does not provide an Auto-Brightness control. Its screen brightness is adjusted manually, so skip the automatic-brightness step on that model and use the slider instead.
Choose the right display path for your setup
The best adjustment depends on whether the visibility problem follows the console or appears only on a particular screen.

Use this distinction before buying anything. If every game looks dim in handheld mode, the console or room is the likely source. If only Feed the Deep looks dark, inspect its own menus first. If handheld play is clear but docked play is not, concentrate on the television.

Look for a brightness or accessibility option inside Feed the Deep
Nintendo’s system-level contrast guidance for Switch 2 says that accessibility display settings are not necessarily applied while a game is running and directs players to check the game’s own settings for related options. For that reason, open Feed the Deep’s menus rather than assuming a console filter will alter its underwater rendering.

- From the game’s title screen or pause menu, open Options, Settings or a similarly named menu if present.
- Look for entries labeled Brightness, Gamma, Contrast, Display or Accessibility.
- If a slider exists, adjust it while viewing an area that contains both dark water and lighter terrain.
- Save or confirm the change, then return to play and check whether the result persists after restarting the game.
No official Feed the Deep-specific settings page establishes that a particular brightness, gamma or contrast slider exists in every version. Menu labels and options can change with an update, so do not treat the list above as a promise that each control will be present. If the game offers no display control, rely on the console brightness for handheld or tabletop play and the television’s picture controls for docked play.
What Switch 2 High Contrast and display colors can—and cannot—do
Nintendo documents High Contrast and display-color choices, including grayscale and inverted colors, in Switch 2 accessibility settings. These controls are intended for the HOME Menu and system interface. Nintendo explicitly states that such text, bolding and contrast settings are not reflected while playing a game.
That limitation matters for Feed the Deep: enabling a system High Contrast, grayscale or inverted-color option is not a guaranteed way to brighten its caves or outline wildlife. You may find the HOME Menu easier to read, but the game’s rendering can remain unchanged. Use these options for system-interface readability, and use Feed the Deep’s own accessibility controls—if its current version provides them—for gameplay changes.
Improve visibility in TV mode without overcorrecting
Feed the Deep supports TV, tabletop and handheld modes. When the Switch is docked, the television becomes the primary display, so the TV’s picture controls determine much of the perceived darkness.

Use the TV’s Game or low-latency picture preset
Start with the television’s Game picture mode if it has one. This is a display-specific adjustment, not a Nintendo Switch setting, and it may change input processing, brightness and contrast. If the preset is still too dark, use the TV’s backlight or brightness control in small increments.
Do not erase shadow detail with excessive contrast
Contrast set too high can crush near-black shades, making several different cave surfaces appear as one solid block. Raise brightness or backlight first, then make only a modest contrast adjustment. Disable aggressive energy-saving or ambient-light picture features while testing if they repeatedly dim the image; the names and behavior vary by television model.
Calibrate for the room, not a universal number
No television model or calibration value is established for Feed the Deep. A setting that works in a bright living room can look washed out in a dark bedroom. Make changes with the game visible, stand at your normal viewing distance and check several cave scenes before keeping them.

- Check another game or the HOME Menu. If the whole system looks dim, begin with console or TV brightness. If only Feed the Deep is affected, continue to the game’s menus.
- Identify the mode. Handheld and tabletop use the Switch screen; docked play uses the television. Do not change TV controls to solve a handheld problem.
- Stabilize automatic behavior. Disable Auto-Brightness on Switch or Switch OLED during testing. Switch Lite has no such control.
- Set a moderate manual level. Raise Screen Brightness until dark surfaces separate, then check that light objects still retain detail.
- Inspect the game. Search its Options or Accessibility menus for a display control. If none exists, do not expect a system contrast filter to substitute for it.
- For docked play, adjust the TV. Try Game mode and small backlight or brightness changes while avoiding crushed shadows.
- Re-test after changing rooms. Reflections and ambient light can dominate perception even when the settings are unchanged.

Make visibility changes without losing the game’s visual information
The goal is not simply the brightest possible image. Feed the Deep’s caves contain light and dark areas, and excessive brightness can remove the separation that helps you read depth and terrain. After each change, inspect a scene with a dark passage next to a lighter surface. If both areas become the same gray, lower the setting slightly.
Limited oxygen makes quick recognition valuable: you want to identify a route, resource or approaching threat without spending unnecessary time searching. A stable brightness level, reduced glare and a television preset that preserves shadow detail can improve that recognition while leaving the game’s challenge intact. Display adjustments do not add oxygen, reveal undiscovered areas or change hostile-wildlife behavior; they only make the existing image easier to interpret.
Do you need an accessory?
Nintendo lists the Switch edition of Feed the Deep as a digital release and does not document a required physical display accessory, cartridge, screen filter, HDMI device or replacement part for underwater visibility. A generic display product would require a performance claim that the official information does not establish.

Before spending money, use the built-in controls: manual Screen Brightness, Auto-Brightness management where available, the game’s own settings and the television’s picture controls in docked mode. If a screen remains dim across the entire system after those checks, investigate the console or television as general hardware rather than searching for a Feed the Deep-specific visibility product.

- Hold HOME for one second and raise Screen Brightness.
- Disable Auto-Brightness on Switch or Switch OLED while testing; Switch Lite has no Auto-Brightness control.
- Use System Settings → Screen Brightness when you want the full manual route.
- Check Feed the Deep’s Options or Accessibility menu for any current brightness, gamma, contrast or display controls.
- Do not rely on Switch 2 High Contrast, grayscale or inverted colors to alter gameplay; Nintendo says those system settings are not reflected while playing a game.
- In TV mode, try the television’s Game picture mode and adjust backlight or brightness carefully.
- Reduce reflections and compare more than one cave scene before deciding that a setting works.
- Do not buy a visibility accessory solely for this game; no required product is documented.
For most players, the effective sequence is simple: set a stable manual brightness, verify whether the game offers its own display control, and tune the television only when playing docked. That approach addresses the actual source of the darkness without promising a system-wide filter that the game may not support.
