If you searched for “Father Knows Best,” the Blood and Wine quest you want is actually called Father Knows Worst. It is a level-37 secondary quest in Toussaint that sends Geralt to Albertus Grotto to find Hugo, recover a still filter, and decide whether to settle a family dispute peacefully or by force. The name is a play on the American television series Father Knows Best, according to The Official Witcher Wiki.
Where to start Father Knows Worst
In the Blood and Wine expansion, take the notice from a notice board in Beauclair advertising an escort into a cave. Speak to the men who posted it: they explain that their brother Hugo has gone missing. The quest leads to Albertus Grotto in Toussaint. The Witcher Wiki lists the suggested level as 37; this is a recommendation, not a requirement to begin the quest. See the quest reference for the quest’s location and objectives.
How to find Hugo and recover the still filter
- Speak with the brothers. Hear their account of Hugo’s disappearance and follow the quest marker to Albertus Grotto.
- Defeat the kikimores. Clear the enemies in the cave before searching for Hugo.
- Use Witcher Senses. Examine the signs and follow the trail to find and speak with Hugo.
- Retrieve the still filter. It is in the lake inside the cave. The water is dangerously heated by underground heat; cast Quen for protection before entering.
- Bring the filter back to Hugo. Returning it directly completes that part of the quest and earns the listed 150 XP and 100 crowns. It also counts toward the honor virtue for the Blood and Wine quest There Can Be Only One.
The quest reference notes that Hugo catches up and takes the filter if Geralt tries to leave with it rather than returning it. Follow the quest markers for cave navigation; the available quest account does not establish a more detailed route through the grotto.

After the filter is returned, Hugo’s brothers and their armed men block the exit. Hugo asks Geralt to help attack them. You can fight the group or refuse the violence and reason with the brothers. The outcomes and rewards are listed as separate branches in the quest reference:

The filter-return reward is a separate objective listing: 150 XP and 100 crowns. Do not treat it as part of either branch’s stated reward; the quest lists the peaceful and combat outcomes separately.

Choose peace if you want the brothers to reconcile, Hugo to become a merchant at The Clever Clogs, and the listed 300-crown reward for that branch. Choose combat if you prefer to fight the group; the listed reward for that branch is 150 XP. Whichever resolution you choose, return the filter to Hugo to complete that objective and earn the associated honor virtue for There Can Be Only One.
