In Fate/Grand Order, strong turns come from matching your Servants to the enemy, choosing Command Cards for the job at hand, and timing skills and Noble Phantasms instead of using everything as soon as it is available. New players can make steady progress by focusing on a small core team, advancing the story, and borrowing a Support Servant to cover roster gaps.
How to get started in Fate/Grand Order
Fate/Grand Order is a turn-based mobile RPG. Battles alternate between a tactical phase, where you activate Servant and Master skills, and a command phase, where you select three Command Cards. The official Fate/Grand Order USA website provides an English combat guide; its instructions describe the core choices that shape each turn.
For early progression, advance the main story and complete available missions. The Japanese official guide says these activities award resources used to summon and strengthen Servants. The exact rewards and timing can differ by service and region, so check the notices in your own version rather than relying on a guide to a different region.

What do Quick, Arts, and Buster cards do?
Each Command Card color supports a different goal. Choose based on what the team needs now: damage, progress toward a Noble Phantasm, or Critical Stars for a later turn. The first card also gives a type-specific bonus, so the order of your selections matters.

| Card type | Best use | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Quick | Generate Critical Stars | Stars can support critical hits on a later turn. |
| Arts | Build the NP gauge | The official English combat guide says Arts cards fill the gauge faster. |
| Buster | Emphasize immediate damage | Useful when taking down an enemy quickly matters more than setting up. |
Three cards of the same color create a chain and grant an additional effect. Selecting three cards from the same Servant adds an Extra Attack. These bonuses are useful, but they do not make one pattern the right choice every time: consider the enemy’s remaining health, your NP gauges, and whether you want to set up a future critical turn.
When should you use skills and Noble Phantasms?
Save skills for meaningful turns
Servant skills can strengthen allies or weaken enemies, but they have cooldowns. Use them when their effect can change the turn—for example, when you need more damage to finish a dangerous enemy or want to improve an ally’s performance before selecting cards. Master equipment provides another set of support skills; include those effects in your plan rather than treating them as separate from the command phase.

Build and spend the NP gauge deliberately
The NP gauge fills through battle actions, skills, and taking damage. At 100%, a Servant can use its Noble Phantasm. If a difficult enemy is approaching, weigh whether to spend an available NP now or preserve it for that encounter. The official English combat guide also says that using two or more Noble Phantasms in the same turn intensifies their effects, which can make a coordinated burst useful when the timing is right.
Watch enemy charge and your Command Spells
An enemy’s charge gauge signals an approaching powerful attack; plan your skills, NPs, and card choices around it instead of waiting for the attack to land. The Japanese combat guide describes Command Spells as powerful support and says one mark naturally restores each day, with a continue option consuming all three marks. Because in-game operations can change, rely on the current display and notices in your service when deciding how to use them.

How to build a good team
Start with class advantage
Check the enemy’s class and use the effectiveness indicators shown in battle. A favorable class matchup deals more damage and takes less damage, so class advantage can matter more than simply choosing the Servants with the highest displayed stats. If your roster is limited, borrow a Support Servant to cover a gap. The official party guide says a borrowed Support does not count against party cost.
Cover roles as well as classes
Build around the encounter rather than chasing a universal lineup. Consider which Servant can handle the enemy through class advantage, which can help the team deal damage or weaken foes, and whether your party can generate NP and respond to incoming attacks. Master equipment adds support skills that can help fill a tactical need.

How to strengthen Servants efficiently
Strengthening improves a roster without depending only on new summons. The Japanese official enhancement guide describes these systems:

|---|---|---|
| Level up | Raises HP and ATK | When a core Servant needs more survivability or damage. |
| Ascension | Raises the level cap; most Servants can ascend up to four stages | When the Servant reaches its current level limit and you have the required materials. |
| Upgrade skills | Can strengthen effects or shorten cooldowns | When a skill’s effect is central to your team’s plan. |
| Combine duplicate copies | Raises Noble Phantasm level | When you have duplicate copies of that Servant. |
Prioritize a small core rather than spreading limited materials across every Servant. Story and mission rewards can help supply resources, but materials and available rewards depend on the service and its current content. The official guides explain how upgrades work; they do not establish a single best roster for every player.

What should new and returning players check?
Offers for new or returning Masters are particularly service- and date-sensitive. A Japanese official guide dated March 29, 2025 described a tutorial summon with one guaranteed four-star Servant and one four-star Craft Essence, plus a post-Fuyuki Special Summon that allowed eligible Masters to choose one five-star Servant from a pool of 32. It also described Spirit Origin Leaves as an exchange route for some past welfare Servants and related items. These are descriptions of the Japanese service at that date—not promises about what is available now or in another region.
The same dated Japanese guide listed 14 eligible four-star tutorial-summon Servants. That was the size of its then-current Japanese-service list, not a general game statistic. Before making a summon or exchange decision, read the current notice in your own version for eligibility, pool contents, and deadlines.
Check device compatibility before installing
The English official game site lists the game as free to play with in-app purchases and gives operating-system and device requirements. It lists iOS 15 or later and Android 7.0 or later, says at least 3 GB of RAM is necessary, and warns that some devices may still fail to run the game even if they meet the listed OS version. These specifications can change; check the official requirements page for your device and region before installing. Spending is not required to learn the combat systems covered here.
Which details can change?
Core combat choices—class advantage, card functions, NP timing, and strengthening—are explained in the official guides, but offers, device support, screens, and operating instructions may change with updates. The official Japanese tips page, dated October 1, 2026, explicitly warns that its screens and instructions may change. Check in-game notices and the official site for current operational details rather than assuming that an older guide applies unchanged.
