The new Fate/EXTRA Record character promotional video is an Archer spotlight, not a complete opponent-roster reveal. Released by Aniplex on September 12, 2026, it introduces Archer as a Servant candidate who can contract with the protagonist, shows his ranged and thrown-weapon fighting style, and confirms Junichi Suwabe as his Japanese voice actor.

What the Archer video confirms

Aniplex’s September 12 announcement describes Archer as “one of the Servant candidates who can contract with the protagonist.” The character is a versatile warrior who specializes in indirect attacks and thrown weapons. The official Japanese description also characterizes him as sarcastic but professional, someone who follows orders faithfully.

That makes the video a character introduction rather than a confirmation of every rival in the Moon Holy Grail War. It identifies the featured Servant and his role; it does not establish a complete opponent list.

Archer’s combat identity

  • Uses a wide variety of weapons.
  • Focuses on ranged and thrown-weapon attacks instead of close-range swordplay.
  • Has a cynical, sarcastic personality but behaves as a dependable professional.
  • Is voiced in Japanese by Junichi Suwabe.

How Archer fits the playable Servant choices

Fate/EXTRA Record is a remake of the 2010 PSP RPG. Marvelous says the remake offers three selectable Servants: Saber, Archer and Caster. Each has unique abilities, so Archer is not merely an enemy cameo; he is one of the protagonist’s available contract choices.

#1 Best Overall
Fate EXTRA/Record: Limited Edition - PlayStation 5
  • LIMITED EDITION includes an artbook with over 100 pages and a 3 disc soundtrack within a SteelBook
  • Your Fate, Revisited - Based on Fate/EXTRA, released in 2010, this compelling narrative has been revised and vastly expanded, adding new layers and characterizations, enhancing one of the franchise’s core entries with even more depth and intrigue.
  • Master and Commander - All-new revamped card-based battle system allows for deeper strategies for surviving the war. Unique abilities for both Master and Servant also add new elements that improve upon the original game’s battle system.
  • An Unbreakable Bond - Three different Servants offer three different combat approaches to suit your style. As you continue to develop your relationship, you’ll discover new cards and abilities and learn more about these heroic spirits... and their own desires.
  • Powerful, New Presentation - Redesigned for modern platforms, character designs and visuals have been given a massive upgrade. Fully voiced with all-new Japanese voiceover and an epic new score, this is the ultimate entry of record.

The new video should still be read as a promotional character spotlight, not a full explanation of Archer’s route, abilities or late-game encounters. Detailed mechanics and story differences for each Servant remain separate questions from the announcement itself.

Saber has also received an official character video

Aniplex’s September 9, 2026 Saber release identifies Saber as another Servant candidate. It describes a small-built swordsman with exceptional skill, a proud manner and a fondness for beautiful things. Taken together, the Saber and Archer videos establish two featured contract candidates while leaving the complete cast and opponent structure unspecified.

What kind of remake is Fate/EXTRA Record?

The remake expands the original story, renews character graphics and replaces the PSP-era presentation with a strategic deck-building Command Card battle system. Marvelous also describes a fully voiced Japanese presentation. The game is set around the Moon Holy Grail War, where the protagonist forms a contract with a Servant and battles through the conflict.

Publisher transition and what it means for announcements

TYPE-MOON’s August 31, 2026 notice says Aniplex became the sales publisher and that the development organization and future staff listings were changing. Consequently, Aniplex is the relevant source for the current Archer promotional video and Japanese product information, while XSEED/Marvelous handles the announced Americas console publishing details.

This transition is a reason to distinguish confirmed platform and edition information from assumptions about final retail stock. The Archer PV itself confirms the character spotlight, voice actor and combat description; it does not independently confirm every territory’s boxed inventory.

What to watch for next

  • Additional official Servant character videos, especially for Caster and other candidates.
  • More detail on Archer’s Command Card deck, unique abilities and route-specific story content.
  • Regional store pages showing preorder dates, stock and final edition contents.
  • Any clarification of how the remake’s expanded story differs from the 2010 PSP release.

The Bottom Line

Archer’s September 12, 2026 PV confirms a ranged, thrown-weapon Servant candidate voiced by Junichi Suwabe. He is one of three selectable Servants in the remake, which is scheduled for January 28, 2027 on PS5, PS4, Switch 2, Switch and Steam; the video is a focused character reveal, not a complete opponent-roster announcement.
