Fate/EXTRA Record is a full remake of the 2010 PSP RPG Fate/EXTRA. Its worldwide release is scheduled for January 28, 2027, with versions announced for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. The remake replaces the original battle approach with customizable Command Card decks, adds expanded story and presentation changes, and is designed to welcome players who never played the PSP game.
Fate/EXTRA Record at a glance
The game takes place in the Moon Holy Grail War, a lethal tournament in which Masters and their Servants fight for the Holy Grail. A defeated Master is eliminated from the tournament and loses their life, so every Arena run and one-on-one confrontation has narrative stakes as well as mechanical consequences.

What kind of game is Fate/EXTRA Record?
You play a Master in the Moon Holy Grail War and partner with a Servant. The tournament unfolds through investigation and combat in the Arena, followed by decisive one-on-one battles. The remake keeps the original game’s science-fiction setting and Fate series premise while rebuilding its presentation and combat for modern platforms.
#1 Best Overall
- LIMITED EDITION includes an artbook with over 100 pages and a 3 disc soundtrack within a SteelBook
- Your Fate, Revisited - Based on Fate/EXTRA, released in 2010, this compelling narrative has been revised and vastly expanded, adding new layers and characterizations, enhancing one of the franchise’s core entries with even more depth and intrigue.
- Master and Commander - All-new revamped card-based battle system allows for deeper strategies for surviving the war. Unique abilities for both Master and Servant also add new elements that improve upon the original game’s battle system.
- An Unbreakable Bond - Three different Servants offer three different combat approaches to suit your style. As you continue to develop your relationship, you’ll discover new cards and abilities and learn more about these heroic spirits... and their own desires.
- Powerful, New Presentation - Redesigned for modern platforms, character designs and visuals have been given a massive upgrade. Fully voiced with all-new Japanese voiceover and an epic new score, this is the ultimate entry of record.
Exploration is not a separate optional mode. In the Arena you navigate hazards, fight enemies, and search for treasure that can strengthen your Servant. Those activities feed directly into preparation for the major duels, giving the game a loop of exploration, growth, and confrontation rather than a sequence of battles with no overland context.
The story has been expanded and revised. Character designs and visual presentation have been updated, the remake adds new Japanese voiceover, and it uses a new score. Marvelous Games describes it as the first Fate series RPG returning “after 16 years” for both a new audience and longtime fans.

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
The official PlayStation listing covers both PS5 and PS4. It identifies offline play, one player, Remote Play, and accessibility features. No separate PS5-only gameplay feature or upgrade policy has been confirmed in the announced information.

Marvelous USA and XSEED Games have announced physical editions for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The standard Nintendo Switch version is listed alongside the standard PS5 edition at $59.99, while the Nintendo Switch 2 edition is listed at $69.99. Those prices are the 2026 announcements from the publisher and should be treated as regional US pricing unless a local storefront states otherwise.
PC via Steam
Steam lists Meteorise and TYPE-MOON as developers and Aniplex as publisher. The page identifies a planned January 28, 2027 release, but also says the game is not yet available. Therefore, Fate/EXTRA Record is coming to Steam as a planned PC release; it is not a playable Steam game before its launch date.
Which editions are announced?
Standard editions
The announced standard price is $59.99 for PS5 and Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch 2 edition is announced at $69.99. The available format differs by platform: Marvelous USA says physical Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 preorders will be offered through its online store and participating retailers, while the PlayStation and Steam listings establish those platform versions without supplying a universal physical-retail policy.

Digital Deluxe edition
The Digital Deluxe edition described by the PlayStation Blog includes the base game, cosmetic costumes, an arranged Fate/EXTRA music pack, a digital art book, and a digital soundtrack. Steam also lists a deluxe edition and an arranged BGM pack. The announcements do not establish whether every bonus is identical across platforms or regions, so check the specific store page before paying for an upgrade.
Preorders and regional availability
Physical preorders are planned through the publisher’s online store and participating retailers. No retailer inventory, final preorder bonus, or region-by-region stock commitment is confirmed in the announced material. If you are buying outside the United States, wait for your local store to display its currency, edition name, and delivery territory rather than converting the US figures yourself.
How the new Command Card battle system works
Build a deck for your Servant
The remake replaces the PSP game’s original battle approach with a customizable deck of Commands. Cards are not generic equipment that works identically for every character: Commands differ by Servant, so a deck that suits one combat style may not transfer directly to another.
- Attack cards deal damage to the opposing combatant.
- Guard cards build shields that reduce incoming damage.
- Skill cards provide unique effects and let a deck support a Servant’s particular abilities.
The official descriptions do not state the final deck size, draw rules, turn timer, card rarity system, or whether cards can be freely removed at any time. Do not assume those details from another Fate game or from the PSP version; wait for the in-game tutorial and final documentation.
Find new cards while exploring
Command Cards are acquired in the Arena. Treasure boxes contain cards, and defeating powerful foes can also reward them. That creates a practical reason to explore side paths and take on stronger enemies: the risk can produce tools that change how your next major duel plays out.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Arena encounters are preparation rather than the final objective. Traps and enemies wear down your resources while victories and discoveries strengthen your Servant. A sensible early approach is to learn what each card type does, secure defensive options before attempting difficult fights, and treat a new card as part of a larger deck plan instead of an automatic replacement for an existing card.

- Maria has gathered enough strength to confront Leopold, but first, she must tack him down…
- This is the third episode of the murderous trilogy about Maria.
- 50 Clues is an immersive puzzle game that offers the experience of an escape room, but in a format that can played at home. Combine objects, solve puzzles, and decipher codes to complete the story.
- A smartphone or tablet keeps track of the solutions and provides multistep hints if the need arises.
- The story only makes sense to be played once, but the serial number can be activated up to 30 times.
Servants, abilities, and relationship progression
Three Servants have been confirmed, with distinct abilities and combat styles. The available announcements do not provide a complete stat sheet or a definitive beginner ranking, so there is no evidence-based “best” first Servant yet.
Relationship development is a mechanical system, not only a story choice. Building your relationship with a Servant unlocks additional cards and abilities, which can change the options available in battle. This means a Servant’s long-term growth depends on both Arena activity and how you develop the partnership.
How should a newcomer choose?
When the game presents the three confirmed choices, compare the role each description emphasizes: an aggressive damage approach, a defensive or control-oriented approach, or a style built around powerful effects. Because Commands are Servant-specific, choose the character whose decision-making pattern sounds enjoyable rather than expecting one universal deck to dominate. The final game may reveal balance details that are not public yet.

What is different from the 2010 PSP game?
| Area | Original Fate/EXTRA | Fate/EXTRA Record |
|---|---|---|
| Release | Released for PSP in 2010. | Full remake scheduled worldwide for January 28, 2027. |
| Combat | Used the original PSP battle approach. | Uses customizable Command Card decks with Attack, Guard, and Skill cards. |
| Exploration | Presented the original version of the setting and progression. | Uses an Arena in which players overcome traps and enemies, find treasure, and strengthen a Servant. |
| Presentation | PSP-era character presentation and audio. | Redesigned characters, upgraded presentation, new Japanese voiceover, and a new score. |
| Story | The original Moon Holy Grail War narrative. | Expanded and revised narrative intended for newcomers and returning fans. |
This is more than a resolution upgrade or a straight port. The battle rules, exploration structure, audiovisual presentation, and portions of the narrative have all been revised. Players who remember the PSP game should expect familiar setting and themes alongside substantially different moment-to-moment play.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do you need to play Fate/EXTRA first?
No prior game is listed as a requirement. The project is explicitly a full remake, and the official description presents it as a version for a new audience as well as longtime fans. You can begin with the Moon Holy Grail War premise and learn the Command Card system in the remake.
Playing or reading about the PSP original may still help if you want to recognize how characters, scenes, and mechanics changed, but that is optional context rather than a stated prerequisite. The remake’s revised story and updated presentation are intended to stand on their own.

Languages, audio, and accessibility
Steam lists interface and subtitle support in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Japanese is the listed full-audio language. The PlayStation listing includes accessibility features, but the announcement does not enumerate which options are available or whether every option appears on every platform.
For language-sensitive purchases, confirm the platform’s final store entry after launch. Pre-release listings can change, and subtitle support does not imply that a full voice track exists in that language.
What has not been confirmed yet?
- Final difficulty modes and whether difficulty can be changed after starting a game.
- Multiplayer or online competitive features; the announced listings describe a single-player experience.
- Save-transfer support between PS4 and PS5, Switch and Switch 2, or other platforms.
- Completion-time figures, performance targets, frame-rate modes, and resolution benchmarks.
- Final retailer stock, preorder bonuses, and every regional price.
- The complete Servant roster, detailed statistics, final card pool, and deck-building limits.
These are normal gaps for a pre-release game. Do not treat a storefront placeholder, an unverified retailer listing, or speculation based on the PSP version as an official feature.
A practical buying checklist
- Pick your platform. Choose PS5/PS4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, or Steam based on where you want to play; Steam’s listing is planned and unavailable before launch.
- Decide between standard and deluxe. Choose the standard game if you only need the base experience. Choose Digital Deluxe if the announced costumes, arranged music, digital art book, and soundtrack justify the additional cost for you.
- Check the exact store region. Confirm currency, language support, edition contents, and whether a physical preorder ships to your address.
- Plan for a single-player RPG. The announced features focus on offline, one-player play, so do not buy it expecting co-op or competitive online modes.
- Read the final product page near launch. Pre-release metadata can change, particularly for PC requirements, Switch 2 packaging, regional prices, and deluxe contents.
How it fits into the wider Fate franchise
PlayStation Blog and Aniplex counted more than 100 Fate titles across games, anime, novels, manga, apps, and other media as of August 2026. That figure is a franchise-wide count, not a count of RPGs and not a measure of how many entries you must know before starting this game. Fate/EXTRA Record is specifically a remake of the 2010 PSP RPG and can be approached as its own story-driven game.
