The Fastcalc X8B is a fanless mini PC built around Intel’s Core Ultra 5 125U. Its standout feature is networking: eight Ethernet ports rated at up to 2.5Gbps each. Two replaceable DDR5 memory modules support a reported maximum of 64GB, while a replaceable M.2 2280 SSD, HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C and four USB 3.2 ports make it suitable for firewall, industrial-network and conventional desktop roles.
Notebookcheck reported the X8B appearing on Amazon Germany, but broad worldwide availability has not been established. Treat the listed price and stock as specific to that listing and subject to change.

Why the X8B is different
Most small PCs provide one Ethernet port, sometimes two. The X8B provides eight 2.5GbE interfaces in one passively cooled chassis. That makes it a practical hardware candidate for a multi-interface firewall, router, VLAN laboratory, network appliance or industrial gateway where several physical links must terminate at the same box.

Fanless cooling removes the noise and moving-part failure point associated with a conventional system fan. It can be attractive on a factory floor, in a control cabinet or in a quiet office. Passive cooling does not, however, establish a particular sustained power limit or temperature range; those figures were not reported.
Is the X8B suitable for a firewall or router?
Its eight 2.5GbE ports are the strongest reason to consider it for that job. You can dedicate interfaces to a WAN connection, LAN segments, isolated services, management and test networks without adding a separate multi-port adapter.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Confirm that your chosen firewall operating system supports the Ethernet controllers and can map all eight interfaces reliably.
- Check whether your intended traffic load, VPN encryption and intrusion-prevention rules fit the Core Ultra 5 125U and the system’s passive thermal design. No independent throughput or thermal figures are available.
- Plan for a suitable 2.5GbE switch when more endpoints are needed; the X8B’s port count does not replace switching capacity.
- Use the upgradeable memory to size a virtualized or inspection-heavy deployment, rather than assuming the 8GB base configuration is sufficient.
For a basic router, eight ports may be more hardware than necessary. For segmented networks or a lab that changes topology frequently, the extra interfaces can reduce adapters, cables and external boxes.
Memory: can it reach 64GB?
Yes, the report describes two DDR5 slots and a maximum of 64GB, with memory not soldered to the motherboard. The reported 8GB configuration is therefore an entry point rather than a permanent ceiling.

- Verify the exact module type and supported speed from the unit’s documentation or firmware before ordering; the available report confirms DDR5 SO-DIMM slots but does not state a validated speed list.
- Install a matched pair when possible so both channels can operate as intended.
- After installation, enter the firmware setup or operating system and confirm the full capacity is detected.
- Run a memory test before placing the machine into a firewall or production role.
For ordinary desktop work, 16GB or 32GB may be adequate. Virtual machines, containers, large routing tables and security services benefit from more memory, making the 64GB ceiling useful if the platform and software support it.
Storage and expansion
The X8B includes an M.2 2280 SSD that can be replaced. The reported 256GB drive in the entry configuration is therefore not necessarily the system’s long-term capacity. A larger replacement can hold more virtual machines, logs or local data, while a second storage connector was not reported.

Before replacing the drive, create a full backup or disk image, record the current boot mode and encryption keys, and confirm that the replacement is compatible with the installed interface. Reinstall or restore the operating system, then check network-interface naming because appliance software can bind rules to specific ports.

HDMI and DisplayPort cover common monitor setups, and USB Type-C plus four USB 3.2 ports provide connections for peripherals, storage and installation media. The SIM-card slot is reported for use with a compatible cellular modem; the slot alone does not prove that a modem, antennas or carrier bands are included.

Those outputs make the X8B usable as a regular small desktop, kiosk or monitoring station. Its passive design is especially appealing where fan noise is unacceptable, but the available evidence does not establish gaming performance, display resolution limits or sustained CPU behavior.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to verify before buying
- Availability: The documented retail sighting is Amazon Germany. Confirm that the seller ships to your country, provides the correct power supply and offers local warranty support.
- Configuration: Check whether the listing includes 8GB or a larger memory kit and whether the SSD is 256GB or another capacity.
- Networking: Ask for the exact Ethernet-controller model and operating-system compatibility if you plan to run specialized firewall software.
- Thermals: Look for installation guidance around ventilation and cabinet mounting; no independent temperature or power data was reported.
- Total cost: Add compatible DDR5 SO-DIMMs, a larger M.2 2280 SSD, modem hardware and any import or tax charges to the advertised €700 starting price.
How the X8B compares with other mini PCs
The meaningful comparison is not processor branding alone. Evaluate the complete platform against the requirements of your deployment:
| Decision factor | What the X8B offers | What you still need to establish |
|---|---|---|
| Ethernet | Eight ports rated up to 2.5Gbps each | Controller compatibility, driver support and real workload throughput |
| Cooling | Fanless passive design | Sustained temperatures, power limits and recommended airflow |
| RAM | Two DDR5 slots, reported up to 64GB | Supported module speeds and maximum validated capacity for your operating system |
| Storage | Replaceable M.2 2280 SSD | Interface generation, endurance and whether another storage slot exists |
| Displays and USB | HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C and four USB 3.2 ports | Exact display resolutions, USB power limits and port bandwidth |
| Ownership | Reported entry price from €700 in Germany | Regional stock, warranty, taxes and upgrade costs |
Who should buy it?
The X8B is most compelling when you need many physical network interfaces in a quiet, compact appliance and value the ability to replace both RAM and storage. It is less clearly justified for a simple office PC or single-port home server, where eight 2.5GbE connections add cost and complexity. Because worldwide distribution, benchmarks and reliability data remain unconfirmed, treat the X8B as a promising specialized platform and verify the exact listing and software support before committing it to production.
