Fast wireless charging means a wireless-charging mode that delivers more power than a device’s baseline mode—but there is no universal wattage threshold for the word “fast.” In the Qi family, the relevant labels are Qi fast charging up to 15 W, Qi2 at 15 W, and the newer Qi2 25W tier. A charger’s maximum rating is not a promise that every phone will receive that power: the phone and charger must support the same profile, and alignment can matter.
What “fast wireless charging” means
“Fast” is relative to the charging standard and the device. The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) says Qi version 1.2 introduced fast charging in October 2015, with transmitters and receivers capable of up to 15 W. That is a milestone in Qi’s history, not a universal definition that applies to every wireless-charging system. WPC’s Qi specification history

Will a Qi2 charger fast-charge your phone?
Only if the phone and charger support compatible charging capabilities. The lower or incompatible capability can limit the result, so a charger labelled for a higher maximum does not make a phone accept power at that rate. Check the phone’s supported Qi profile and the charger’s certified rating rather than relying on a product listing’s headline wattage. WPC Qi overview

Why magnetic alignment matters
Qi2’s magnetic attachment helps align the phone and charger. The WPC says this alignment improves energy efficiency and charging speed. Some devices may also need a suitable magnetic case to work with the charger as intended, but case requirements vary by phone model. WPC Qi overview WPC knowledge base
For a device-specific example, Samsung’s UK product page for its Qi2 Magnet Wireless Battery Pack describes Qi2-ready magnetic-case support for some Galaxy devices. That example is not a universal requirement for all Qi2 phones. Samsung UK product page

How to check a charger before buying
- Look up the phone’s supported profile. Confirm whether its specifications list Qi, Qi2 or Qi2 25W wireless charging; do not assume support for a higher tier from a charger’s rating.
- Check the charger’s certification and output. Match its certified profile and maximum output to the phone’s capabilities. The WPC says Qi- and Qi2-certified products undergo safety and interoperability testing at an authorized independent laboratory, and it provides a certified-product database.
- Verify alignment and case compatibility. Check whether the phone has the magnetic alignment needed for the charger or whether its manufacturer specifies a compatible magnetic case.
- Check the charger’s own power requirements. Some transmitters are powered using a USB charger, but the required adapter and cable depend on the selected product; the Qi specification history does not establish one universal adapter rating. WPC specification history
How to interpret charging-speed claims
Maximum wireless power and the time needed to charge a battery are different kinds of claims. The WPC says Qi2 25W can charge a smartphone battery from 0% to 50% in about 30 minutes. Treat that as the WPC’s stated example, not a guarantee for every phone or charging situation. WPC Qi overview
