Fast Cover Standard Saver may suit Australian travellers who want more than basic overseas medical cover, but its headline benefit limits do not guarantee that a claim will be paid. Whether it fits depends on your cancellation costs, belongings, activities, age, medical disclosures and the exclusions and excess shown in the current policy documents.

What Standard Saver covers

Fast Cover positions Standard Saver as its mid-level international travel insurance option, between Basics and Comprehensive. Its product information describes cover for eligible overseas medical expenses, cancellation and trip disruption, baggage and personal effects, emergency dental and personal liability. The policy wording determines whether a particular event qualifies and how much may be payable. Fast Cover Standard Saver

The PDS located for this review is dated 22 March 2025. Fast Cover says its online information is a summary and directs customers to the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD). Check the currently linked PDS and the Certificate of Insurance before buying: the certificate records your policy details and excess, while the PDS sets out conditions, exclusions and limits. How to read the headline benefit limits

Fast Cover’s PDS dated 22 March 2025 lists unlimited overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses, and unlimited emergency evacuation and repatriation, for Standard Saver. The insurer’s comparison table lists a $750 limit for overseas emergency dental. These are insurer-published policy limits, not independent assessments or a promise that every expense will be covered. Fast Cover PDS, dated 22 March 2025 · Standard Saver benefit comparison

The PDS says: “Cover is only provided where the relevant covered event occurs during the Period of insurance and is subject to the terms and conditions of the Policy.” A claim must meet the relevant benefit conditions and general exclusions; the excess shown on your Certificate of Insurance may also affect the amount paid. Medical transfer, evacuation or repatriation must be approved by Fast Cover first. Fast Cover PDS, dated 22 March 2025

Check baggage sub-limits against what you will take

A baggage benefit’s overall limit can be less useful than its per-item cap. Under the PDS dated 22 March 2025, category caps include:

  • $3,000 for standalone computers, cameras and video recorders, subject to stated device exceptions.
  • $1,500 for a single unspecified mobile phone, satellite phone or other portable communications equipment item.
  • $1,000 for a single unspecified small mobile handheld computer, including a tablet.
  • $750 for other unspecified items or sets.

The PDS says eligible high-value items may be declared for an additional premium, up to $5,000 for one item or set and $10,000 combined. Some item classes cannot be declared. These are limits in Fast Cover’s PDS dated 22 March 2025; check the current wording for covered item definitions, exceptions and conditions before relying on them. Know what Standard Saver leaves out

Fast Cover says Standard Saver does not include accidental death, permanent disability, loss-of-income benefits, or additional reasonable meals and accommodation costs during a travel delay. If any of those protections matters to you, compare the policy wording and premium for an alternative rather than assuming they are included. Fast Cover Standard Saver

Activities and trip types may need extra cover

Standard Saver can require paid optional cover or additional eligibility checks for activities or travel arrangements. Fast Cover lists Adventure Pack, Motorcycle Pack, rental vehicle excess and cruise cover as optional additions. Its PDS also excludes some activity- or motorcycle-related claims unless the relevant additional cover was selected and paid for. Check the exact activity, vehicle use or cruise itinerary against the current PDS and your certificate; the name of an optional pack alone does not establish that your specific plans are covered. Decide whether it fits your trip

  1. Measure cancellation exposure. Add up non-refundable bookings you could lose and compare that figure with the current cancellation limit and qualifying-event rules in the PDS.
  2. Review medical eligibility. Check age provisions, pre-existing medical condition screening, exclusions and any disclosure requirements. Do not assume an unlimited medical limit overrides these terms.
  3. List valuable belongings. Compare the current baggage total and item caps with each high-value item, including whether it can be declared and at what added premium.
  4. Check every planned activity and travel arrangement. Confirm whether adventure activities, motorcycle or scooter use, rental vehicles or cruising require optional cover and whether your specific plans qualify.
  5. Read the certificate and compare the total cost. Check the excess, trip dates, destination eligibility, duration, optional-cover costs and premium. Use the TMD and PDS as well as the product summary.

Standard Saver versus Comprehensive

Fast Cover’s FAQ says Comprehensive offers broader cover with higher limits and points customers to the PDS benefit table. This is the insurer’s description, not an independent policy ranking. Compare the actual limits, conditions and exclusions for your trip rather than choosing by tier name alone. Fast Cover FAQ and policy information

Standard Saver is worth considering when its eligible benefits match your risks and its exclusions, baggage caps and excess leave no material gap for your trip. It is a poor fit if you need protection the policy excludes, your valuables exceed applicable item limits, or you have not confirmed that your health circumstances and planned activities meet the terms. Fast Cover says claims are assessed individually against the policy, PDS, certificate and circumstances; its general online information does not consider personal circumstances.
