Build the hero as a clear, complete landing-page section first, then add motion that supports its fashion imagery and message. Use semantic HTML for the campaign headline, copy, image and call to action; CSS for art direction and responsive composition; and GSAP for a small sequence of purposeful reveals. Keep the content usable without JavaScript or animation, and provide a quieter version for visitors who request reduced motion.
Plan the hero before adding animation
A fashion hero often combines a campaign image, headline, supporting line and one primary action. Decide how those pieces work together at both narrow and wide viewport sizes before choosing an animation. The image may dominate the composition, but the offer or campaign message and its call to action must remain easy to find.
- Message: Write the headline and supporting copy as ordinary HTML text so they remain available if scripts fail.
- Image: Choose the crop and focal point with CSS, and make sure the subject remains visible when the layout changes.
- Action: Use a real link or button with a clear label; do not make a hover, drag, or scroll gesture the only way to discover or use it.
- Motion: Choose one or two transitions that reveal the campaign rather than competing with it.
This separation gives each tool a clear job: HTML carries meaning, CSS creates the visual arrangement, and GSAP coordinates motion.
Compose the campaign with HTML and CSS
Keep the hero’s content in the document in its intended reading order. Use a heading for the campaign title, a paragraph for supporting text, and an anchor for navigation or a button for an action. Treat the image as meaningful content when it communicates campaign information; provide suitable alternative text. If it is purely decorative, avoid giving it redundant text that repeats the nearby headline.

Use CSS to create the art direction: set the image crop, establish contrast between text and background, arrange overlapping layers, and adapt spacing and type size for smaller screens. Keep text legible over photography, and check that the call to action remains visible rather than being obscured by an image crop or overlay.
Use GSAP for a restrained reveal
GSAP can animate CSS-related properties, including transforms, opacity and color. Its CSS documentation also notes that CSS property names in JavaScript use camelCase: for example, use backgroundColor rather than background-color. See GreenSock’s CSS documentation.
A simple sequence can reveal the campaign image, introduce the headline, and then draw attention to the action. Make sure the final visual state is also a usable state: the headline and action should not remain hidden if JavaScript does not run. Avoid making a visitor wait through a long entrance sequence before the page communicates what it is about.

For smooth transitions, prefer transforms and opacity where they can express the intended change. Animating dimensions, positions or other layout-affecting properties can trigger reflow and repaint; transforms and opacity may avoid those costs. That is not a guarantee of performance: results depend on the implementation and the device. MDN explains the trade-offs in its CSS and JavaScript animation performance guide.

Choose scroll or drag only when it adds meaning
Scroll-linked transitions
Add ScrollTrigger when the story genuinely benefits from a transition tied to scrolling—for example, a campaign image that changes as the visitor moves through a sequence. It can connect an animation to a trigger, scrub animation progress against scrolling, pin an element, call lifecycle callbacks, and recalculate on resize. GreenSock says ScrollTrigger uses native scrolling rather than taking over the page’s scroll behavior. See the ScrollTrigger documentation.
Do not use a pinned or scroll-driven effect to withhold essential copy or the main action. The hero should still make sense as a static section, and ordinary page scrolling should remain a workable way to navigate.

Direct image manipulation
Use Draggable only when direct manipulation has a clear purpose, such as letting visitors inspect or rotate a product image. It supports mouse and touch input, bounds, axis constraints and callbacks. Momentum behavior requires the optional InertiaPlugin. See GreenSock’s Draggable documentation.
A draggable image is an enhancement, not a replacement for essential product or campaign information. Ensure that the static image and the page’s main action remain available to people who do not drag, cannot use a pointer, or prefer not to interact with the image.

Honor reduced-motion preferences
Some visitors request reduced motion through their device or browser settings. The prefers-reduced-motion media feature lets a site detect that preference. MDN notes that scaling and panning large objects can cause discomfort for some people with vestibular motion disorders. For a fashion hero, replace large movement or parallax with a static composition or, if appropriate, a restrained fade. Keep the headline and call to action visible in the same usable state. Read MDN’s prefers-reduced-motion reference.
Check the hero across viewports and interaction modes
Before publishing, inspect the actual page at narrow and wide viewport sizes and with reduced motion enabled. Confirm the message, image focal point and action remain clear in each case; also check the page with animation unavailable and without relying on hover, scrolling or dragging to reveal information. These checks are especially important when the image crop, text placement or animation changes with the viewport.
