For a new player choosing Fallout 4, buy Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition if you want the complete published package. It combines the base game, all six official expansions and more than 150 Creation Club items. The right purchase changes if you already own Fallout 4, are buying on Nintendo Switch 2, or want an older game such as Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas.
This guide matches each situation to the edition that is actually supported by the current listings, then explains the ownership, format and platform details that can turn an apparently cheap purchase into a duplicate or incomplete one.
Quick recommendation by situation
| Your situation | Best-supported choice | Important check |
|---|---|---|
| New Fallout 4 buyer seeking the fullest package | Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition | Confirm that the store listing names the Anniversary Edition and that your platform is supported. |
| You own the standard edition of Fallout 4 | Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition Upgrade | Use the upgrade route instead of purchasing the complete bundle again. |
| You own Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition and want Creation Club content | Creations Bundle | Bethesda identifies this as the separate route for GOTY owners seeking those items. |
| Buying Fallout 4 for Nintendo Switch 2 | Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition | The included Creations are built in, there is no in-game Creations menu, and the physical release is code-in-box. |
| Buying Fallout 3 on PC | Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition on Steam | Steam lists all five add-on packs with the edition. |
| Buying Fallout: New Vegas on PC | Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition on Steam | Check the current Steam product page and regional purchase availability. |
Prices, discounts and regional availability are not fixed by the edition names. Bethesda’s current Fallout 4 purchase page points buyers toward Xbox, PC, Steam, PlayStation, Epic Games and Switch 2 routes, but the store, country and platform account determine what you can actually buy.

The Anniversary Edition is the most complete single purchase for someone who does not already own Fallout 4. Bethesda describes it as including:
#1 Best Overall
- ANNIVERSARY EDITION — Celebrate ten years of Fallout 4 with the complete post‑nuclear RPG experience, winner of over 200 Best Of awards including DICE and BAFTA Game of the Year.
- COMPLETE BASE GAME INCLUDED — Experience the full Fallout 4 main campaign as the Sole Survivor of Vault 111, shaping the fate of the Commonwealth through meaningful choices, factions, and exploration.
- ALL 6 OFFICIAL EXPANSIONS — Includes Automatron, Wasteland Workshop, Far Harbor, Contraptions Workshop, Vault‑Tec Workshop, and Nuka‑World for massive story, settlement, and gameplay additions.
- 150+ CREATION CLUB ITEMS — Expand your adventure with curated Creation Club content featuring unique weapons, power armor sets, building packs, paint jobs, player homes, and Dogmeat cosmetic variants.
- OPEN‑WORLD FREEDOM — Explore hundreds of locations, craft weapons and armor, build and manage settlements, and customize your playstyle using the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system and perk progression.
- The Fallout 4 base game.
- All six official expansions.
- More than 150 Creation Club items.
That combination matters because buying only the base game leaves the expansions and Creation Club content as separate decisions. The Anniversary Edition packages the published Fallout 4 content in one listing, so it is the straightforward choice when you are starting from zero and want the broadest official package.
What “more than 150 Creations” means
Creations are additional Bethesda-distributed content included with this edition. The advertised total is “more than 150,” not a promise that every future item will be added indefinitely. Treat it as the contents of the edition listed at purchase, and read the platform store description for any regional or product-specific wording.
Do not use award counts as an edition comparison
Bethesda’s 2025 announcement also refers to “over 200 ‘Best Of’ awards.” That is promotional history for Fallout 4, not a measurement of which edition contains more playable content or which platform is technically preferable. The included-game and ownership details should drive your decision.
If you already own Fallout 4
Your existing license determines the economical route. Check your library and the exact product name before placing a new order.
Standard-edition owners
Bethesda provides a Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition Upgrade for owners of the standard Fallout 4 release. The upgrade adds the six official expansions and Creation Club content associated with the Anniversary package. Look for the upgrade listing while signed in to the same platform account that owns the base game.
Game of the Year Edition owners
Game of the Year Edition owners have a different starting point. Bethesda identifies the Creations Bundle as the separate option for GOTY owners who want the Creation Club items. Buying Anniversary Edition as though you owned no Fallout 4 can duplicate the base game and expansions you already have.

- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered modernises the 2006 Game of the Year with all new stunning visuals and refined gameplay.
How to check before buying
- Open your platform library, not just your purchase history, and locate Fallout 4.
- Read the full product name: standard edition and Game of the Year Edition lead to different upgrade paths.
- Open the store page while logged into the owning account.
- Compare the displayed price and entitlement description for Anniversary Edition Upgrade or Creations Bundle.
- Only buy the complete Anniversary Edition when the store does not offer an ownership-specific route that matches your license.
Store labels can differ between PC and console marketplaces, so compare the wording in the listing with your owned edition rather than relying on a thumbnail or sale banner.
Nintendo Switch 2: the edition and format caveat
Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition is available for Nintendo Switch 2. Bethesda announced the release on February 24, 2026. It carries the same headline bundle for this platform: the base game, six official expansions and more than 150 included Creations.
There is no in-game Creations menu
On Switch 2, the included Creations are built into the game, but the release does not have the in-game Creations menu. That is an edition-specific interface limitation, not evidence that the advertised included content is absent. If browsing or managing Creations from an in-game menu is important to you, check how that limitation affects your intended use before buying.
The physical release is code-in-box
Bethesda says the official physical Switch 2 version is code-in-box. The package does not represent a conventional cartridge edition simply because it is sold in a physical case. Buyers who require a cartridge should inspect the packaging description and retailer details before ordering; do not assume that “physical” means the complete game is stored on a card.
Digital versus physical decision
- Choose the digital listing if you want the least ambiguity about a downloadable entitlement and have sufficient console storage and account access.
- Choose the physical case only if a code-in-box format is acceptable to you.
- Keep the redemption code and the platform account used to redeem it; a code-in-box purchase depends on that account for access.
The Switch 2 announcement establishes the format and menu caveat, but it does not establish a universal price or stock level. Those can change by country and retailer.

Older Fallout games on PC
For older entries, the clearest bundled choices in the available listings are on Steam. These recommendations should not be stretched into a complete current console-compatibility guide.
Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition
Steam lists Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition with all five add-on packs. If you want Fallout 3 and its published add-ons on PC, this edition avoids buying the base game and each add-on separately.

Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition
Steam lists Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition as the bundle containing the base game plus its downloadable content. Check the live product page for your region before purchasing because availability and purchasing rules can vary.
What is not established here
The available information does not provide a complete, current console matrix for Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 76 or the original Fallout games. A PC bundle listing does not prove that the same edition, add-ons or backward-compatibility arrangement exists on every Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo system. For a console purchase, use the current listing for that exact platform and country.
How to choose an edition without overbuying
1. Start with the game you actually want
“Fallout” covers several releases with different edition names. Decide whether you want Fallout 4, Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas before comparing bundles. Anniversary Edition applies to Fallout 4; it is not a label for the older games.
2. Identify your platform and store
Write down the exact target: Windows PC storefront, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch 2 or another supported listing. The same edition name can have different format details across platforms, and a title listed on one storefront does not establish availability on another.
3. Check ownership before searching for a discount
An apparent sale on the complete bundle can still cost more than an upgrade. Standard Fallout 4 owners should look for Anniversary Edition Upgrade; GOTY owners seeking Creations should look for Creations Bundle.
4. Read the included-content panel
Confirm that the listing explicitly includes the base game, six expansions and more than 150 Creations when shopping for Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition. For Fallout 3, look for all five add-on packs. For New Vegas, confirm that the Ultimate Edition listing includes its downloadable content.

5. Verify physical format
On Switch 2, distinguish a code-in-box package from a cartridge. If your requirement is a cartridge, the announced physical Anniversary Edition does not meet it.
6. Confirm country and price at checkout
The publisher’s purchase links span several storefronts, but prices and availability are regional and can change. The evidence available for these editions does not establish a permanent price, discount or stock guarantee.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
Mistake: buying Anniversary Edition after buying GOTY
Fix: Check for the Creations Bundle first. GOTY already covers the game and its expansion package, according to Bethesda’s ownership guidance.
Mistake: assuming every physical Switch 2 box contains a cartridge
Fix: Read the format line. The official physical release is code-in-box.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteMistake: expecting a Creations menu on Switch 2
Fix: Plan around the fact that the included Creations are built in and the in-game Creations menu is not present.
Mistake: treating a Steam bundle as proof of console support
Fix: Check the exact console store listing. Current evidence confirms the PC bundles but does not supply a full console compatibility table for the older games.
Mistake: choosing from promotional language alone
Fix: Use the concrete entitlement list and your ownership status. “Over 200 ‘Best Of’ awards” describes Fallout 4’s reception, not the contents of a particular purchase.
Quick Recap
Bottom line for each buyer
- Starting Fallout 4 from scratch: choose Anniversary Edition for the base game, six expansions and more than 150 Creations in one package.
- Owning standard Fallout 4: choose the Anniversary Edition Upgrade rather than rebuying the complete game.
- Owning Fallout 4 GOTY: choose the Creations Bundle if you want the Anniversary-related Creation Club content.
- Buying on Switch 2: Anniversary Edition is the complete bundle, but accept the built-in Creations, missing in-game Creations menu and code-in-box physical format.
- Buying Fallout 3 or New Vegas on PC: use Steam’s Game of the Year or Ultimate bundle respectively, and verify the live regional listing.
- Shopping for an older console release: do not infer compatibility from the PC listings; verify the exact platform page.
