Bethesda’s Fallout 4 PlayStation and Creation Kit Update (version 1.46), released October 15, 2026, targets two PlayStation crash scenarios and four PC Creation Kit authoring and packaging bugs. It is a technical patch, not a content expansion. PlayStation players should install it if they use Creations that add NPCs or contain looping WAV audio; creators publishing to PlayStation should update before rebuilding affected projects.
What Fallout 4 update 1.46 changes
Update 1.46 serves two different workflows. On PS4 and PS5, it addresses crashes triggered by certain Creation assets. On PC, it repairs Creation Kit conversion, file-discovery and archive-packaging behavior. Bethesda does not publish a crash-rate percentage, benchmark or guarantee that every Creation-related crash is eliminated.

PlayStation crash fixes
NPC FaceGen crashes from NPC-adding Creations
Bethesda says it “Fixed a crash related to NPC FaceGen when using Creations that add NPCs.” FaceGen data controls an NPC’s generated facial appearance. If a saved game or load order includes a Creation that introduces NPCs and previously crashed during loading or play, this is the specific 1.46 fix most likely to help.
The note is narrowly worded: it covers the NPC FaceGen failure, not every crash caused by an NPC mod, a large load order or unrelated asset conflict. If the game still crashes, disable Creations one at a time or test a save without the affected NPC-adding content to identify another cause.

Looping WAV audio no longer takes the title down
Version 1.46 introduces a temporary solution intended to prevent crashes caused by looping .wav files. Bethesda warns that looping audio from Creations is only partially supported on PlayStation. A Creation’s audio may loop once before playback is handled, but the title should not crash as a result.
This is a mitigation rather than a full audio-system rewrite. Hearing one repeat of a sound does not mean the patch failed; it is an expected limitation of the current solution. The warning also means creators should not treat 1.46 as proof that every looping-audio implementation is fully compatible with PS4 and PS5.

Creation Kit fixes for PlayStation publishing
Filtered PreCombine NIF conversion
PC-to-PlayStation .nif conversions for filtered PreCombines now process correctly when those PreCombines are generated through the Creation Kit graphical interface. Previously, a creator could encounter an infinite loading screen while recombining geometry and updating a Creation with new archives. The corrected conversion should let that workflow finish so the updated package can be built.

Archive-file discovery in the file explorer
An intermittent bug could leave the Creation Kit’s file explorer empty because the tool failed to find files available for archiving. Update 1.46 resolves that discovery problem. Files that are present in the expected project locations should now appear when the author selects content to package.
If the explorer is still empty, first confirm that the files are in the project’s configured directories and that the Creation Kit has permission to read them. The fix removes the intermittent discovery failure, but it cannot find files that are missing, misnamed or outside the project setup.

Bink video files are added to Extra Files
The tool now correctly detects .bik and .bk2 Bink video files and adds them to the Creation Kit’s Extra Files list. Authors no longer need to work around the previous detection failure when a package depends on those video assets.

After updating, inspect Extra Files before publishing and confirm that every required video appears with the intended path. Detection is fixed; an incorrectly referenced or absent video still requires a project-side correction.

SSF files are allowed in archive packing
.ssf files are now included in the Creation Kit’s allowed file list when packing archives. This removes the file-type restriction that previously prevented those assets from being included through the normal archive workflow.

What update 1.46 does not promise
- There is no published percentage showing how much crash frequency has fallen.
- There is no benchmark or performance uplift reported for PS4, PS5 or Creation Kit.
- Looping Creation audio is not fully supported on PlayStation; one repeat may still occur.
- The notes do not state that every mod conflict, corrupted save or unrelated asset crash is resolved.
Practical steps after updating
- Update Fallout 4 on the PlayStation console, or update the PC Creation Kit before opening a project intended for PlayStation.
- On a test save, reproduce the NPC-adding Creation or looping-audio scenario that previously failed.
- For authoring, reopen the project and rerun filtered-PreCombine conversion, then wait for the archive update to finish instead of interrupting the process.
- Open the file explorer and verify that expected assets are visible.
- Check Extra Files for every
.bikand.bk2dependency, and confirm that required.ssffiles are included in the archive. - Publish only after testing the rebuilt Creation in a clean load order; a successful tool operation does not guarantee compatibility with every other Creation.
Bottom line for players and creators
Fallout 4 update 1.46 is a focused stability and tooling patch dated October 15, 2026. It directly fixes the NPC FaceGen crash on PlayStation, adds a temporary safeguard for looping WAV crashes, and repairs the Creation Kit paths that previously stalled filtered-PreCombine conversion or omitted archive assets. Install it for those symptoms, but keep Bethesda’s partial-support warning for looping audio in mind and do not interpret the targeted notes as a guarantee against every Creation-related crash.
