Choose Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition if you want the traditional complete package of the base game plus all six official expansions. Bethesda describes GOTY as the fully updated original game with every official add-on. The newer Anniversary Edition contains that same base game and six-expansion set, plus more than 150 Creation Club items. The Standard Edition is only the base game, so it makes sense mainly when it is heavily discounted or when you deliberately want to buy add-ons separately.
Your best choice also depends on platform, whether you already own Fallout 4, and whether a physical copy delivers DLC on a disc or by a one-time code. Those details can vary by storefront, SKU and region.
Fallout 4 Standard vs GOTY vs Anniversary at a glance
The three labels are not interchangeable. Standard is the standalone game. GOTY is the established six-expansion bundle. Anniversary is the larger current package that adds Creation Club content to the GOTY contents.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Edition | What is included | Who should choose it | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | Fallout 4 base game | Someone who wants only the main game, or finds it at a substantially lower price than a complete edition | The six official add-ons are not part of the standard product listing |
| Game of the Year Edition | Fully updated original game plus all six official add-ons | Most buyers who want the complete traditional Fallout 4 experience | Check whether a particular physical SKU supplies DLC on the disc or through a redeemable code |
| Anniversary Edition | Base game, all six official expansions, and more than 150 Creation Club items | Players who want the six expansions together with a large collection of curated Creation Club content | Creation Club inclusion, platform availability and exact packaging can vary by listing |
For a new purchase, compare the total checkout price rather than the name on the box. A cheap Standard copy can become more expensive than GOTY after buying six add-ons individually. Anniversary is worth comparing when you specifically want its additional Creation Club collection; it is not necessary merely to obtain the six official expansions.

What the Standard Edition actually includes
Standard is the original Fallout 4 base game. It gives you the main Commonwealth campaign, its settlement system and the normal base-game features, but it is not the six-add-on bundle described in the GOTY listing.
Buying Standard first is reasonable in three situations:
- You only intend to play the base campaign and do not need extra regions, workshops or quests.
- The Standard price is low enough that adding selected DLC later remains cheaper than a complete edition.
- You already know you want only one or two specific add-ons rather than the entire set.
Do the arithmetic before checking out. Retailers frequently discount editions by different amounts, and a sale can make GOTY cheaper than buying the Standard game and a later season-style bundle separately. The relevant comparison is the final price for your platform and account, not the original list price printed on an old package.
What Fallout 4 GOTY includes
Bethesda’s product description says Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition includes the fully updated original game along with all six add-ons. Xbox’s product listing identifies the same six expansions. They are:
- Automatron
- Wasteland Workshop
- Far Harbor
- Contraptions Workshop
- Vault-Tec Workshop
- Nuka-World
GOTY is therefore the straightforward answer to “Does Fallout 4 Game of the Year Edition come with all DLC?” It includes all six official expansions released for Fallout 4. That statement concerns the official add-ons listed for the edition; it does not mean every separately sold or user-created item associated with the Fallout name is included.
Automatron
Automatron adds a robot-focused storyline and lets you build customizable robot companions from collected parts. It is the add-on to choose for players who want new robot encounters, companion experimentation and mechanical settlement projects.
Wasteland Workshop
Wasteland Workshop expands settlement construction with creature capture, containment and arena-style features. Its appeal is primarily systemic: it gives builders more ways to populate, defend and stage activities in settlements rather than delivering a large independent story region.

- GOTY edition includes original game on disc and all available DLC as download codes.

- Be whoever you want with the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. character system. From a Power Armored soldier to the charismatic smooth talker, you can choose from hundreds of Perks and develop your own playstyle.
- An all-new next generation graphics and lighting engine brings to life the world of Fallout like never before. From the blasted forests of the Commonwealth to the ruins of Boston, every location is packed with dynamic detail.

Far Harbor
Far Harbor is the largest traditional story expansion in the set. It adds a substantial island region with new quests, characters, investigations and environmental challenges. If you are choosing only one expansion for a deeper new adventure, this is the one whose content is centered on a distinct destination and narrative.
Contraptions Workshop
Contraptions Workshop focuses on settlement machinery. Conveyors, sorting systems and manufacturing equipment let you create more elaborate production and display setups. It is aimed at players who enjoy engineering settlements rather than adding a new campaign area.
Vault-Tec Workshop
Vault-Tec Workshop lets you construct a vault and includes related experiments and quests. It combines a substantial building project with narrative tasks tied to the vault setting.
Nuka-World
Nuka-World adds a theme-park region, raider factions, quests and settlement mechanics. Its content is distinct from the Commonwealth campaign and is designed around exploring the park and dealing with its competing groups.
What Anniversary Edition adds beyond GOTY
Bethesda’s current Anniversary Edition description includes the acclaimed base game, the same six official expansions and more than 150 Creation Club items. Steam presents the same content summary. In practical terms, Anniversary is the package to compare when you want the complete official DLC set plus a broad, curated selection of additional Creation Club content.
Creation Club items are separate from the six expansions. They can add smaller quests, equipment, settlement objects, player-home options and other game content, but the exact catalog and presentation are tied to the platform listing and edition available at purchase. Do not treat “more than 150” as a promise that every item ever offered through Creation Club is included; it is the published count for the Anniversary package.
If your only goal is Far Harbor, Nuka-World and the four workshop add-ons, Anniversary may provide more content than you need. If you want to start with a large collection already bundled and prefer not to select Creation Club items one by one, Anniversary is the more comprehensive option.

Is the DLC on the disc or supplied as a code?
There is no single answer for every boxed copy. Physical packaging can differ by platform, region and SKU. A package may place content on the game disc, provide a redeemable DLC code, or use another platform-specific delivery method. Used copies introduce an additional risk: a one-time code may already have been redeemed by the previous owner.

- Look for an explicit statement that the six add-ons are included, rather than assuming a used box contains every advertised insert.
- Determine whether the DLC is delivered on the disc or through a code tied to a platform account.
- Ask the seller whether an included code is unused. A photograph of a box does not prove that a code remains valid.
- Confirm that the code’s country or region matches your account. Redemption rules can prevent a valid-looking code from being accepted elsewhere.
- Keep the receipt and packaging until every included add-on appears in your library or in the game’s downloadable-content menu.
Digital purchases normally attach entitlements to the storefront account used at checkout, but the exact download and license behavior is still governed by that platform. Read the current product page rather than relying on an old unboxing video or a listing for a different region.
Do you need GOTY if you already own Fallout 4?
You do not need to buy the complete game again simply because you own Standard. Your decision is whether the missing six add-ons cost less as a bundle, as individual purchases, or through an upgrade path offered by your storefront.
When an upgrade or DLC bundle is the better buy
Start by checking your account’s add-on page for Fallout 4. Some stores show a bundle or upgrade that discounts content you already own; others present a complete-edition listing that may not automatically reduce its price. Compare the amount charged for the remaining expansions with the cost of rebuying a complete edition, and remember that a complete-edition purchase can create a second copy of the base game in your library.

Individual purchases can be sensible if you want only Far Harbor, only Nuka-World, or a workshop add-on for a specific building project. They are less attractive when the combined price approaches GOTY, because GOTY already supplies every official expansion.
What Anniversary means for an existing owner
Anniversary is relevant if you want the Creation Club collection in addition to the six official expansions. Owning Standard does not by itself grant those items. Check the Anniversary listing for your platform to see whether it is sold as a full package, an upgrade, or a separate entitlement; the available path can differ by storefront.

Platform, storefront and account checks
Fallout 4 is sold in platform-specific editions, including PC storefront listings, Xbox products and PlayStation products. The name “GOTY” does not guarantee that a code, disc or upgrade works across platforms. A code intended for one platform cannot normally be redeemed on another platform’s account.
Before purchase, verify all of the following:
- The exact platform and storefront, such as the PC store or console marketplace you use.
- Whether the product is a native current-console version, a backward-compatible release or an older disc SKU.
- The account region and the product region, especially for imported or used physical copies.
- Whether the listing includes downloadable content for your edition or only the base disc.
- Whether your console has the required disc drive if you are buying a physical copy.
Availability and compatibility can change, so recheck the live product page immediately before payment. A listing that was correct for an earlier console generation or a different country may not describe the copy you are about to receive.

- Identify what you already own. Check your platform library and Fallout 4’s downloadable-content screen. Record whether you have Standard, any individual add-on, or a previous bundle.
- Choose the content tier. Select Standard for the base game only, GOTY for the base game plus six official expansions, or Anniversary for those contents plus more than 150 Creation Club items.
- Compare the complete cost. Add the price of every missing add-on, applicable taxes and any upgrade charge. Do not compare only the headline discount percentage.
- Validate the delivery method. For physical products, establish whether DLC is on the disc or supplied by a code and whether that code is unused. For digital products, confirm the entitlement is attached to the correct account.
- Check regional and platform restrictions. Match the SKU to your console or PC storefront, account country and current-console compatibility.
- Verify after purchase. Install the base game, open the add-on or downloadable-content list, and confirm each expected expansion is available before discarding a code card or returning the package.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming every “complete” label includes Creation Club content
GOTY includes the six official add-ons. Anniversary includes those six plus more than 150 Creation Club items. If Creation Club content matters to you, confirm that the listing explicitly says Anniversary rather than assuming GOTY contains it.
Buying a used box without checking the code
A used physical copy can look complete while its DLC code has already been redeemed. Treat code status as a purchase condition, not a minor detail.
Ignoring existing ownership
Buying a full edition after purchasing the base game may be convenient, but it is not automatically the cheapest route. Check for a platform-specific bundle or upgrade first, then compare the remaining cost with a new complete edition.
Comparing prices from different regions or platforms
Prices, stock, taxes, discounts and redemption rules are not stable across regions. Compare products that use the same platform, currency and account region.
Expecting workshop add-ons to behave like story expansions
Automatron, Far Harbor and Nuka-World emphasize characters, quests or new locations, while Wasteland Workshop, Contraptions Workshop and Vault-Tec Workshop focus more heavily on settlement systems. Choose the edition for the type of content you will actually use, not only the number of add-ons.
Which edition should you buy?
Buy Standard when you want only the base campaign or find it at a price that leaves room to select DLC later. Buy GOTY when you want all six official expansions and do not specifically need the Creation Club collection; it is the clearest traditional full-DLC package. Buy Anniversary when you want the GOTY contents together with more than 150 included Creation Club items. If you already own Standard, compare an upgrade or DLC bundle with the cost of rebuying a complete edition, and verify every physical code or regional entitlement before purchase.
