Faker’s clearest evidence-backed advantage over other elite mid laners is not a permanently proven champion-count record or a measurable claim that he always wins lane. It is draft and role flexibility under international pressure. Liquipedia’s Worlds player tables list six distinct champions and a 13–4 record (76.47% across 17 games) for Faker at the 2024 World Championship, then 14 champions and a 17–7 record (70.83% across 24 games) at the 2025 World Championship. Those are tournament-specific snapshots, not a universal ranking of every mid laner.
The 2024 final also shows why a raw count is incomplete: Faker used both Sylas, a carry-threat and ultimate-stealing pick, and Galio, a team-oriented engage and protection pick, across Games 4 and 5. Ahri was denied around him in that final, making draft denial part of the matchup. The available evidence supports calling Faker flexible and composition-aware. It does not, by itself, prove that he is the best laner, roamer, shotcaller or team fighter against Chovy, Knight, Caps or every other contemporary star.
What a fair Faker comparison has to measure
“Champion pool” can mean several different things. The simplest definition is the number of distinct champions a player selected in a tournament. That is useful, but it is only the starting point. A pick made once in a losing game does not have the same draft value as a blind-safe champion that survives bans, wins multiple matchups and can be flexed within a composition.
Pool breadth
Count distinct picks, then identify what those picks allow a team to do. A broad pool may cover control mages, assassins, utility and engage champions, or both ability-power and attack-damage damage profiles. Two players can have the same count while one offers much more useful coverage for a draft.

Draft value
Teams value a mid laner who can be first-picked safely, punish a blind pick with a counter, occupy several possible roles in a draft or force bans. Presence—the percentage of games in which a champion is picked or banned—often says more about respect than appearances alone. A champion that is never played because opponents remove it can still be central to a player’s value.
Execution and strategic function
The same champion can serve different purposes. A mid laner may provide lane pressure, side-lane pressure, zone control, engage follow-up, peel, sustained damage or access to an opponent’s ultimate. The relevant question is not only “How many champions?” but “How many strategic jobs can this player perform without weakening the team’s composition?”
Why tournament context matters
Raw counts are not directly comparable across events with different patches, game totals, formats or draft rules. A longer tournament naturally gives more opportunities to add a pick. If an event uses Fearless Draft, champions selected in earlier games may be unavailable later, pushing players to reveal more of their pool. Any comparison should therefore identify the event, patch, number of games and draft rules before interpreting the count.

Faker’s documented Worlds numbers
The two recent Worlds snapshots show a larger recorded pool in 2025, but they do not establish a permanent superiority over every rival or a simple relationship between pool size and winning.

Liquipedia lists the 2024 figures as six champions and a 13–4 record, which is 13 wins in 17 games. Its 2025 table lists 14 champions and a 17–7 record, or 17 wins in 24 games. The recorded pool increased by eight champions, while the win rate moved from 76.47% to 70.83%. That change is not evidence that a larger pool made Faker worse. The tournaments had different game counts, opponents, patches, series paths and potentially different draft constraints. It does show why both breadth and results should be reported together.
These numbers describe Faker’s Worlds performances only. They do not provide a complete regular-season or cross-region comparison with Chovy, Knight, Caps or another mid laner. They also do not identify which of the 14 picks were blind picks, counterpicks, one-game surprises or repeated priorities.

What Faker’s playstyle evidence actually shows
The strongest responsible description is an inference: Faker appears flexible and composition-aware in high-pressure tournament drafts. That inference comes from the jump from six recorded champions in 2024 to 14 in 2025, plus the different strategic profiles documented in the 2024 final. It is an interpretation of the available statistics and game records, not a direct measurement of every decision he makes.

Carry threat and team function can coexist
In Games 4 and 5 of the 2024 final, Faker was documented on Sylas and Galio. Sylas gives a mid laner damage, skirmishing threat and the ability to use opponents’ ultimates. Galio contributes initiation, follow-up control and protection for teammates. Seeing both profiles from the same player in the closing games illustrates a valuable form of flexibility: Faker can be drafted as a source of individual threat or as a way to make the rest of the composition function.
This does not mean Sylas was always his carry pick or Galio always his supportive pick in every match. It means the final provides a concrete example of two different jobs being assigned to him when the stakes were highest.
Draft denial is part of the matchup
The 2024 final account records Ahri being denied around Faker. A denial can be a ban, a first-pick maneuver or another draft choice that prevents a preferred matchup; the account establishes the denial, not a complete tournament-wide ban total. The lesson is that an opponent can evaluate Faker by removing a specific option rather than allowing him to reach the game with his full menu of choices.
Adaptation matters more than a static signature
A signature champion is useful only if a team can build a plan around it and the player can still contribute when it disappears. Faker’s 2024 and 2025 pool counts, together with the final’s Sylas and Galio examples, support examining how he adapts after a preferred pick is removed. They do not prove that every substitute is equally strong, nor that he wins through one fixed pattern in lane or in team fights.
What the evidence does not measure
The supplied tournament tables do not directly measure roaming frequency, early lane dominance, solo-kill rate, gold or experience at a specified minute, side-lane assignment, vision creation, communication or shotcalling. Calling Faker definitively the best roamer, laner or shotcaller from champion counts would go beyond the evidence. Those claims require match-level data and video review.

How to interpret the champion pool beyond the count
The full names of all six 2024 picks and all 14 2025 picks are not established in the available figures. That limitation matters: without the pick list, no one can honestly claim that Faker’s pool contained a particular number of assassins, control mages or attack-damage options. The documented examples still show how to analyze the pool.

In practical terms, a 14-champion pool is impressive evidence of preparation and adaptability, but it is not automatically stronger than a six-champion pool. A smaller group of high-priority picks may create more draft pressure than a larger group of low-priority selections. The useful comparison is breadth multiplied by priority, matchup coverage and execution.
Faker compared with Chovy, Knight and Caps
No comparable champion counts, records, ban totals or lane statistics for Chovy, Knight or Caps are provided alongside Faker’s Worlds figures here. Therefore, the evidence cannot support a claim that Faker’s 14 champions are more—or fewer—than any one of those players’ pools, or that he is definitively superior in a particular phase of play.

This is not a claim that the players are identical. It is a warning against turning reputation into an unsupported statistic. For example, if Chovy, Knight or Caps had a lower raw count in one event, that could reflect fewer games, a different patch or a team that repeatedly trusted the same blind-safe champion. Conversely, a higher count could reflect Fearless Draft rather than greater strategic range. The comparison must be made on matched evidence.
Draft value: the part of the matchup viewers often miss
First-pick safety
A champion is valuable when opponents cannot punish it easily before the rest of the composition is revealed. To assess this, record whether the player’s early selections remain effective against several possible matchups and whether the team can hide the final lane assignment.
Counter-pick threat
A mid laner with several reliable counters can force the opponent to reveal its plan earlier or spend a ban. Record the actual response, not merely the theoretical matchup chart: a counter that is never selected or loses its intended lane purpose has less practical value.

Flex potential
Some champions can move between lanes or change the team’s damage and engage balance. Flexibility can make a player’s pick difficult to answer even when the champion list itself is short. The available Faker evidence does not provide a flex count, so that feature must be measured from complete draft records.
Ban pressure
Bans are an observable form of respect. The Ahri denial documented in the 2024 final demonstrates the principle, but it should not be inflated into a tournament-wide ban statistic. A proper study would report bans per game, pick-and-ban presence and whether the opponent sacrificed another strategic option to remove the champion.

The responsible answer is that the cited evidence does not isolate one mechanism. Champion-pool counts and two final-game examples show flexibility; they do not tell us how often Faker moved first, won lane, absorbed resources or dealt damage in a fight.
Laning
To test lane dominance, compare gold, experience, creep score and plate or tower outcomes at fixed times, while separating solo lanes from lanes affected by jungle pressure. A raw game win cannot be credited to laning without showing that the mid lane produced the relevant advantage.
Roaming
Roaming requires timestamps: first move from lane, arrival at a side lane or objective, successful and unsuccessful ganks, and the minions or plates sacrificed. A champion with strong wave control may roam more without producing more visible kills, so both opportunity cost and resulting objectives belong in the analysis.

Record gold share, farm share, jungle-resource access and side-lane assignments. Some compositions ask the mid laner to take resources and carry; others ask the player to give farm to a marksman or split-push threat. The same win rate can hide very different resource requirements.

Team fights
Evaluate initiation, peel, zone control, damage, target selection and ultimate usage. Sylas makes ultimate theft especially relevant, while Galio can contribute through engage and protection. Those champion functions illustrate possible jobs, not a measured claim that Faker performs each job better than every rival.
Shotcalling and communication
Public pick statistics cannot prove who called a rotation or objective. Attribution requires team communications, reliable player testimony or detailed replay analysis. It should not be inferred from Faker’s longevity or from a team’s result alone.
A repeatable method for comparing elite mid laners
- Fix the scope. Choose the same tournament or regular-season stage, patch range, region and game format for every player. State whether the sample is a single elimination bracket or a full season.
- Count games before champions. Record each player’s wins, losses and total games. Report both raw counts and rates so a 14-pick sample over 24 games is not treated as equivalent to 14 picks over 60 games.
- Build the pick list. Deduplicate champion names, then classify each by control, burst, utility, engage, scaling and damage profile. Keep one-game picks visible instead of silently treating them as established staples.
- Record the entire draft. For every game, note bans, pick order, first-pick status, counter-pick timing, lane assignment and any flex reveal. Pick-and-ban presence is more informative than picks alone.
- Normalize for format. Mark Fearless Draft or other restrictions, side selection, best-of series length and patch changes. Explain how those rules could expand or shrink the apparent pool.
- Measure lane and resource outcomes. Use fixed-minute CS, gold and experience differences, tower or plate results, gold share and side-lane time. Separate games in which the player received early jungle help.
- Review team-fight function. Tag each major fight for engage, peel, zone control, damage, target access and ultimate value. This prevents a utility game from being judged by carry-damage standards.
- Check adaptation. Compare the next game after a signature pick is banned or loses. Note whether the substitute preserves the team’s damage, initiation and lane plan.
- Report uncertainty. Distinguish measured statistics from inference. If a category is unavailable, write that it is not stated rather than filling the gap with reputation or memory.
For event-level pick, ban, presence and win-rate context, Riot Games’ Worlds 2025 statistics page describes its data as sourced from official Worlds match history and live API data. That type of source is appropriate for assembling a matched comparison, provided the event and patch filters are kept consistent.

The most defensible interpretation is that Faker demonstrated a broader set of tournament selections in 2025 while still producing a strong 17–7 result. The lower percentage relative to 2024 should be read alongside the larger 24-game sample, not as proof of decline. Likewise, the increase from six to 14 champions should not be treated as proof that every pick was equally practiced or equally threatening.
Three explanations can coexist: the 2025 meta may have required more answers; the tournament path may have created more games and more opportunities to reveal picks; and Faker’s team may have deliberately used him to cover more composition needs. The tables alone cannot distinguish those explanations. Match-level drafts and patch-specific context can.
Bottom-line comparison
Faker’s documented edge is strategic range under pressure. His six-champion 2024 Worlds pool produced a 13–4 record, and his 14-champion 2025 pool produced a 17–7 record. The 2024 final’s Sylas and Galio appearances show that his value can shift between carry threat and team-oriented utility, while Ahri denial shows that opponents may attack his options in the draft.
That is enough to describe Faker as a flexible, composition-aware mid laner. It is not enough to declare him the best laner, roamer or team fighter, or to say his pool is definitively larger than Chovy’s, Knight’s or Caps’s. Those conclusions require a matched, cross-player dataset that controls for patch, game count, draft rules, bans, priority and the actual function each champion served.
