The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) costs $649.99 in the US, and its strongest reason to buy it is not peak performance or camera quality: it is the promise of replaceable parts and support through 2033. That makes it a compelling long-term choice for some owners, but a difficult value for shoppers focused on hardware for the money. TechRadar’s October 2, 2026 review judged similarly priced phones from Samsung, Google, and Motorola stronger in performance and cameras, while favoring Fairphone for environmentally minded buyers who plan to keep a device for years. Fairphone’s US product page lists the Gen. 6+ at $649.99; it was out of stock when checked October 7, 2026, so availability may change.

What the Fairphone (Gen. 6+) offers

Fairphone’s US page lists a 12GB RAM, 256GB storage configuration. Its core specifications include a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor, a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED display, a 50MP main camera, a 4,415mAh removable battery, IP55 water-and-dust resistance, and microSD expansion up to 2TB. These are the manufacturer’s listed specifications, not a guarantee of performance in every use.

The “plus” model upgrades the standard Gen. 6 from 8GB to 12GB RAM, moves to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, and ships with Android 16, according to Fairphone’s announcement. Fairphone also reports up to 24% faster app loading and switching and up to 20% lower system RAM reservation time compared with the earlier configuration. Those are company-reported comparisons; the reviewed sources do not provide independent controlled results confirming them.

Is the Fairphone Gen. 6+ worth $649.99?

It depends on what you want your money to buy. If your priority is the strongest camera and performance at this price, the case is weak: TechRadar’s October 2, 2026 review says similarly priced Samsung, Google, and Motorola phones outperform it in those areas. The review also considers the premium over the standard Gen. 6 difficult to justify for the relatively limited upgrades. These are the reviewer’s judgments, not a universal ranking supported here by a full set of controlled benchmarks.

  • Less Noise, More You: Fairphone Moments lets you switch between full Android and a distraction-free mode with up to five essential apps of your choice. Working, traveling, or spending time with the people who matter - you decide what shows up on your screen, and what stays out of reach.
  • US Carrier Compatibility: This Android smartphone supports AT&T and T-Mobile, and supported MVNOs on those networks. It is not supported on Verizon or Verizon-network MVNOs. 5G speeds require a 5G-enabled SIM/eSIM and supporting data plan, and availability varies by carrier and location.
  • Google's Gemini AI Assistant, Built In: Use Gemini Live to identify what's in front of your camera, summarize the group chats you're behind on, or plan your day. Not interested in AI? You can easily toggle it off. Your phone, your call.

The price is easier to defend if you value access to replaceable modules, intend to keep a phone for a long time, and can use Fairphone’s software-support commitment. The company advertises 12 user-replaceable parts and support through 2033. Neither promise guarantees that ownership will cost less: the value depends on how long you keep the phone, whether the parts you need remain available where you live, their prices, and whether you can carry out or arrange repairs.

TechRadar reported a UK price of £569 in its October 2026 review. That figure is specific to the reviewer’s UK pricing at publication and should not be treated as a current quote for another market. The standard Gen. 6 is the lower-priced alternative identified in that review, but the available sources do not establish a complete model-by-model price and benchmark comparison.

Repairability and support: the main reasons to choose it

12 replaceable parts

Fairphone says the Gen. 6+ has 12 user-replaceable parts. The point of that design is practical: a damaged or worn component may be replaceable without replacing the whole handset. Fairphone’s spare-parts guidance says buying parts directly can save labor and shipping fees for out-of-warranty issues. That guidance is for Europe, so its repair pricing should not be applied to US ownership.

Replaceability is not the same as guaranteed savings. Before relying on a repair to extend the phone’s life, check the cost and availability of the specific part in your country, the warranty terms, and whether you are comfortable doing the repair or paying someone else. For warranty-defect claims, Fairphone says its service center must diagnose the issue.

Software support through 2033 and warranty terms

Fairphone promises software support through 2033 and lists a warranty of up to five years. These are manufacturer commitments, not proof that every device will remain usable or that every owner will receive the full warranty period under every circumstance. Fairphone’s launch announcement also promises six OS upgrades; that is distinct from the broader support-through-2033 statement.

Will it work with your US carrier?

Carrier compatibility is a purchase check, not a detail to assume from the phone’s unlocked status. Fairphone lists AT&T and T-Mobile as supported, and Verizon and Verizon-network carriers as unsupported. The company also says eSIM is not supported on T-Mobile. Confirm the latest compatibility information with Fairphone and your carrier before buying, especially if you rely on Verizon service or need eSIM.

Who should buy the Fairphone Gen. 6+?

  • Consider it if repairability and long-term software support matter more to you than having the best camera or performance at the price, and you expect to keep the phone for years.
  • Look elsewhere if your main goal is maximum hardware value, particularly camera capability and performance. The cited review finds mainstream options at similar prices stronger on those measures.
  • Check before ordering if you are in the US: confirm stock, carrier support, eSIM needs, and the local availability and cost of the parts you might realistically replace.

In its launch story, Fairphone described the purpose of the “plus” as “intentional improvements that keep your device capable for longer.” That is the company’s rationale for the upgrade; whether the premium makes sense comes down to whether you will benefit from that longer-use proposition.
