Changing your phone’s location permission and changing the location shown in Facebook Dating are different things. Meta’s Help Center documents how to let Facebook access device location, but it does not establish a current menu path or change limit for a Dating-specific location. If Dating’s location seems wrong, check the app’s device permission first; do not assume that changing it will alter your Dating location or improve matches.
What location settings can—and cannot—do
Facebook Dating is an opt-in feature inside the Facebook app, with a separate Dating profile. Facebook’s device location permission controls whether the app can access location from your phone. It is not confirmation that Dating has a manual city picker, travel mode, or a particular location-reset interval.
Meta’s Facebook Help Center instructions for Location Services cover device permission on Android and iOS, not editing a Dating-specific location. The current Dating location controls, where available, may depend on the app version or region; the exact workflow and any limit on changes are not established here. Check the controls and current help shown in your own Facebook app before relying on a menu path from another source.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCheck Facebook’s location permission on your phone
If Facebook cannot access device location or the location appears inconsistent, review the phone’s system setting for Facebook. These are Meta’s documented paths; operating-system labels can vary by version.

Android
- Open your phone’s Settings.
- Go to Apps > Facebook > Permissions > Location.
- Choose the permission that fits your needs: Allow only while using app, Ask every time, or Don’t allow.
iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and go to Location Services.
- Select Facebook.
- Choose from the options shown, such as While Using the App, Ask Next Time, or Never.
If those labels or paths do not match your device, use Settings search for “Location” and open the Facebook permission entry. Allowing access gives Facebook access under the selected permission; denying it restricts that access. Neither choice guarantees a different Dating location or different suggestions.
Choose a permission with the privacy trade-off in mind
| Permission choice | What it means | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Allow while using the app | Facebook can access device location while you use the app. | Permits location access during use; it does not guarantee a Dating-location change. |
| Ask every time | Your phone prompts you when Facebook requests location. | You decide request by request, with an extra prompt when access is needed. |
| Deny or Never | Facebook does not receive precise device location through that permission. | Limits this access, but may not remove every location signal Facebook can use. |
Why a permission change may not resolve a mismatch
Device permission is only one part of how location can be understood. In a 2019 explanation tied to Android 10 and iOS 13-era controls, Meta said location could also be inferred from check-ins, events, and internet connection information. That dated explanation is not a complete or necessarily current inventory of signals, but it shows why changing Location Services alone may not make every location-related display change.

Meta has also described Dating suggestions as drawing on preferences, interests, and activity or information from Dating and other Facebook products. Those inputs describe recommendation factors; they do not promise a particular number or quality of matches. A location change, if the current app offers one, should not be treated as a guaranteed way to optimize match results.

Protect your Dating profile and review current privacy details
Meta’s 2020 privacy explanation described Dating as opt-in and said users could delete their Dating profile without deleting their Facebook account. It also said first name and age came from Facebook profile data, while several other details were user-controlled; current Facebook friends were not suggested as matches, with controls for friends-of-friends suggestions. These are Meta’s statements from 2020, not a guarantee that every detail remains unchanged.

For current data-use details, consult Meta’s Facebook Dating privacy explanation alongside the privacy controls and notices currently shown in Facebook.
Meta reported in its October 21, 2020 Europe launch announcement that Facebook Dating had created over 1.5 billion matches across 20 countries since launch. That historical company-reported figure is not a current total, success rate, or evidence that changing location improves outcomes.
