Gold parts are special custom-machine parts in F-Zero GX; they are not a separate kind of machine or a replacement for the normal customization system. Every custom machine still uses a body, cockpit, and booster. The main difference is how parts are acquired: ordinary parts come from game progression and the shop, while special parts have historically been associated with F-Zero AX transfers—and a recently reported, unverified input-code method.
Are gold parts different from regular custom machine parts?
Not in how they fit into a machine. F-Zero GX customization uses three component categories: body, cockpit, and booster. Nintendo and Sega’s archived customization guide explains that the body affects stability and strength, the cockpit affects control and grip, and the booster affects top speed and boost. The same customization simulator can combine GX, AX, and special machine parts.
Nintendo’s 2003 product description says GX offered 8,000 possible vehicle combinations before additional arcade parts were downloaded. That figure describes combinations, not the number of gold sets or an unlock reward. Nintendo’s product information identifies the game as a GameCube title.

Ordinary parts are earned through GX progression and then obtained through the in-game shop. A GameFAQs custom-machine guide, last updated November 3, 2003, catalogs part unlocks tied to Grand Prix results and Story chapters, along with shop costs. It is a useful historical catalog, but it is not official documentation or current independent verification.

How were special parts transferred from F-Zero AX?
The historical official route involved an F-Zero AX arcade cabinet, a GameCube memory card containing a GX save, and a special F-Zero license card. Nintendo and Sega’s archived GX/AX instructions describe using that setup to transfer special parts into GX, where they could then appear in the F-Zero Shop. This documents a historical procedure; it does not establish that cabinets, license cards, or compatible services are available today.
What is the reported gold-parts input method?
A Reddit post dated October 10, 2026 reports another way to obtain five named sets: enter the listed sequences at Customize → F-Zero Shop while using four controllers simultaneously. The post names Thunderstorm, El Dorado, Chrono Symphony, Bahamut, and Gladiator. This is a single community report, not official documentation or independently reproduced testing; region and edition compatibility have not been established. Read the reported sequences on Reddit before trying them.

Why do gold-part lists differ?
The 2003 guide names Thunder Storm, El Dorado, Gladiator, and Chrono Symphony among special-part sets, but notes uncertainty about some original distribution methods and lists Chrono Symphony’s official unlock method as unknown. The 2026 post uses the name Thunderstorm and adds Bahamut to its reported targets. These dated sources do not establish a definitive or exhaustive catalog, so treat either list as limited to what that source records.
