Verdict: The EZVIZ C3X is a 1080p fixed outdoor Wi-Fi camera whose main reason to buy is its dual-lens color-night-vision design. EZVIZ says one lens measures brightness while the other captures color, then combines the data to produce color video without a visible spotlight. That promise is conditional: in extremely dark scenes, the camera can switch to black-and-white mode. It also offers person- and vehicle-shape detection, configurable detection zones, siren and strobe deterrence, two-way talk, local microSD recording, optional cloud storage and EZVIZ NVR support.

This is a specification-based review, not an independent image-quality or detection-accuracy test. The practical buying questions are therefore whether your property has usable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet, whether you can supply 12 V DC power, whether the selected regional model fits your market, and whether the camera’s low-light behavior matches your scene.

What the EZVIZ C3X is

The C3X is an outdoor security camera with a fixed 1920 × 1080 maximum resolution. Its defining hardware feature is a pair of lenses rather than a conventional single sensor. According to EZVIZ, one lens records ambient brightness and the other captures color information; an algorithm combines both streams. The intended result is color night video without relying on a white spotlight that could illuminate or disturb the scene.

It is a network camera rather than a battery product. The published specification lists 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and a 10/100 Ethernet port, so you can connect it wirelessly or run a network cable where Wi-Fi coverage is unreliable. Power is supplied at 12 V DC. The camera is fixed in place after mounting; the published material does not describe a pan-and-tilt mechanism or a higher-resolution mode.

How the dual-lens color night vision works

Why two lenses matter

A normal color camera loses color information as light falls and may produce a noisy, nearly monochrome image. EZVIZ’s design separates the brightness and color tasks between two lenses, then combines their output computationally. In principle, that gives the algorithm more color information than a single low-light image would provide. The C3X also uses infrared illumination for night scenes, so it does not need a visible floodlight to attempt color video.

The 0.005-lux figure is a vendor laboratory claim

In its March 18, 2020 launch announcement, EZVIZ described the C3X producing color video at 0.005 lux in a laboratory test. That is a manufacturer-reported condition, not an independent measurement of a camera installed at a home or business. It should be read as an indication of the company’s test scenario rather than a guarantee that every outdoor scene at that brightness will be colorful or equally detailed.

When the image becomes black and white

EZVIZ explicitly says that extreme conditions can trigger black-and-white mode for clarity. Its examples include a completely enclosed warehouse and a rural location on a cloudy, moonless night. Consequently, “color night vision” describes the camera’s intended capability, not an always-on output mode. Nearby walls, trees, covered porches and other obstructions can also change the available light and the result. If color identification is critical, plan a small amount of ambient lighting and verify the actual scene after installation.

Detection, deterrence and communication features

Person and vehicle-shape detection

The published feature set includes detection based on person and vehicle shapes. You can configure detection zones so that activity outside a selected area is ignored. This is useful when a sidewalk, road or neighboring property would otherwise generate unnecessary notifications. The available information does not establish a detection-accuracy percentage, recognition distance, false-alert rate or performance in rain, fog and backlighting.

Active defense

The C3X provides a siren and strobe described as active-defense features. These can make the camera more conspicuous when an event is detected. Consider neighbors, local noise rules and the risk of startling people before enabling an audible response. A siren or flashing light is a deterrent feature, not a substitute for locks, lighting, monitored alarms or emergency services.

Two-way talk

Two-way audio is included in the published feature list. It can let an authorized user communicate with someone in the camera’s area, but the available specifications do not state microphone range, speaker loudness, wind-noise performance or whether audio recording rules differ by jurisdiction. Check local privacy and recording laws before using it where other people may be captured.

Resolution, lens choices and placement

At 1920 × 1080, the C3X is a Full HD camera. That is sufficient for general monitoring, entrances and driveways when the scene is framed correctly, but it provides less detail for distant faces or license plates than higher-resolution cameras. Placement has more influence on useful identification than the headline resolution alone.

EZVIZ lists 2.8 mm and 4 mm lens options with different stated viewing angles. The exact angle and regional availability depend on the specific unit, so confirm the model listing before purchasing. A wider lens covers more of a yard but makes distant subjects smaller; a narrower lens shows less area but can put an entrance or gate larger in the frame.

Choose the mounting position before drilling

  • Frame the approach path, door or gate rather than an empty expanse of sky.
  • Keep the lens high enough to resist casual tampering, while retaining a usable angle for faces.
  • Avoid aiming directly toward strong sunrise or sunset glare.
  • Check that nearby eaves, walls or vegetation do not block the second lens or infrared illumination.
  • For reliable notifications, include the actual area where a person or vehicle should be detected inside the configured zone.

Regional models, network and power requirements

The official US product information identifies different regional codes. Match the code and included power adapter to your market instead of assuming that every C3X listing is interchangeable.

Market designation Published model identifier Connection and power requirements
Europe CS-CV310-C0-6B22WFR 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or 10/100 Ethernet; 12 V DC
Americas CS-CV310-C1-6B22WFR 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or 10/100 Ethernet; 12 V DC
APAC CS-CV310-C3-6B22WFR 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or 10/100 Ethernet; 12 V DC

The camera’s published wireless support is 2.4 GHz. A phone connected only to a 5 GHz network may not be able to complete initial setup until your router exposes a 2.4 GHz network. Ethernet is an alternative when the mounting location can be cabled. The port is specified as 10/100, so it is not a gigabit interface; that does not prevent Full HD operation, but it is relevant when planning network hardware.

Weather resistance and what comes in the box

EZVIZ publishes an IP67 enclosure rating and an operating range of −30 °C to 60 °C. IP67 indicates protection against dust and temporary immersion under the conditions used for that rating; it does not make every installation mistake safe. Use the supplied waterproof kit around outdoor cable connections and avoid leaving the power connector exposed to standing water.

The package contents listed by EZVIZ are the camera, drill template, screw kit, waterproof kit, a 1.5 m power adapter and a quick-start guide. Measure the route from the power outlet to the mounting point before drilling: the included lead is 1.5 m, and an outdoor-rated extension or a different approved installation may be needed if that distance is insufficient.

Installation sequence

  1. Confirm the regional unit. Check the model identifier and the 12 V DC adapter for your country before opening the package.
  2. Test connectivity at the intended location. Verify that a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal reaches the mounting point, or plan a 10/100 Ethernet cable.
  3. Bench-power the camera. Connect the supplied adapter indoors and complete initial pairing before fixing the camera permanently. This makes it easier to update firmware and confirm that the image is oriented correctly.
  4. Install the storage card if you are using local recording. Insert a compatible microSD card while the camera is unpowered, then close and seal the slot as directed by the quick-start materials.
  5. Mark and drill. Hold the drill template against the chosen surface, use the supplied screw kit where appropriate, and keep the cable path protected from water and sharp edges.
  6. Apply the waterproof kit. Seal the outdoor connection before energizing the camera at its final location.
  7. Adjust the view and configure zones. In the EZVIZ app, open the camera’s settings and set the detection area so that the intended approach is included and irrelevant traffic is excluded. App labels can change with software versions.
  8. Test day and night scenes. Walk through the detection area in daylight and after dark, check notifications and two-way audio, and confirm that the camera remains reachable after your phone leaves the local network.

Storage: microSD, cloud and NVR

The C3X has three published recording destinations: a microSD card, EZVIZ cloud storage and an EZVIZ NVR. EZVIZ says recordings may be saved in all three locations at once. Cloud availability is market-dependent, so do not assume that a plan offered in one country can be purchased or used in another.

microSD capacity and card requirements

The camera’s product information lists support for microSD cards up to 256 GB. EZVIZ support recommends a Class 10 or UHS-I card. The card is a separate purchase and should be checked for current compatibility before selecting a model.

Card capacity Filesystem guidance from EZVIZ support Practical action
Under 64 GB FAT32 Use a card that can be formatted FAT32 and initialize it in the camera app.
64 GB or larger exFAT Use exFAT and let the app initialize the card before relying on recordings.
Above 256 GB Not listed as supported Stay at or below the published 256 GB limit.

Formatting erases existing files. Copy anything important before initializing a card. If you need evidence retention, treat a single card as a convenience rather than the only archive: card failure, theft of the camera and overwriting can all remove local footage.

Cloud and NVR trade-offs

Cloud storage can preserve footage if the camera or card is stolen, but availability and current terms vary by market. An NVR centralizes recordings for multiple cameras and may be preferable when you want local management, while adding a separate recorder and its own storage requirements. The published specifications do not establish current cloud prices, retention periods or subscription tiers, so verify those details in your country before budgeting.

How to prepare and configure recording

  1. Update first. EZVIZ support recommends updating camera firmware and the mobile app when storage or setup problems occur. Doing this before mounting reduces avoidable troubleshooting.
  2. Choose the destination. Decide whether you want microSD, cloud, NVR or simultaneous recording. Each additional destination adds configuration and, for cloud or NVR, separate availability or equipment considerations.
  3. Initialize local storage. With the card inserted, open the camera’s storage controls in the app and initialize it. Do not remove power while formatting.
  4. Set detection zones. Draw zones around the area that matters, such as a driveway or gate. Exclude roads, tree movement and neighboring property where appropriate.
  5. Configure deterrence deliberately. Select whether siren and strobe responses are enabled, and test them at a time that will not disturb neighbors.
  6. Review notifications. Trigger a person-shaped and, where relevant, vehicle-shaped event. Adjust the zone or sensitivity controls available in your app if alerts are excessive; the published material does not define a universal sensitivity scale.
  7. Verify playback. Confirm that a recent clip can be found on the selected destination and that the timestamp and time zone are correct.

MicroSD troubleshooting

If the camera does not recognize a card, follow EZVIZ’s support sequence rather than repeatedly buying larger cards.

  1. Update the camera firmware and the EZVIZ app.
  2. Power the camera down, reseat the microSD card and power it back up.
  3. Open storage settings in the app and initialize the card. Remember that initialization deletes its contents.
  4. Check the card’s speed class: Class 10 or UHS-I is the published recommendation.
  5. Check capacity and filesystem: cards under 64 GB should use FAT32; cards of 64 GB or more should use exFAT; do not exceed 256 GB.
  6. If the card still fails, test a currently compatible card rather than assuming the camera can use every card sold for phones or computers.

What the 2020 subscription statement does—and does not—mean

EZVIZ’s March 2020 launch announcement said no subscription fee was required for the described person/vehicle notification function. That is a dated claim about that functionality. It should not be treated as proof that cloud recording is free, that every market has identical terms, or that the policy remains unchanged. Confirm current service conditions in your country before choosing cloud storage.

Who should buy the C3X

It makes sense when

  • You want a fixed 1080p camera for an entrance, driveway, yard or other outdoor area.
  • Color information at night is useful, but you accept that very dark scenes may be monochrome.
  • Your network provides 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or you can run Ethernet.
  • You can provide 12 V DC power at the mounting location.
  • You value a choice among local card storage, NVR recording and market-dependent cloud service.
  • You are comfortable checking the regional model and configuring detection zones after installation.

Look for a different type of camera when

  • You need battery operation or cannot route power.
  • You require independently measured detection accuracy or a guaranteed color image in near-total darkness.
  • You need pan, tilt, optical zoom or resolution above 1080p.
  • Your site has only 5 GHz Wi-Fi and no Ethernet route.
  • You require a documented cloud price, retention policy or worldwide service availability before purchase.

How to compare the C3X with alternatives

Compare cameras on the conditions that determine whether footage is useful, not on “color night vision” wording alone. Use the following checklist when evaluating another model against the C3X:

Comparison axis Questions to ask
Low-light scene Is color produced by a dual-sensor design, visible lighting, or both? What happens in a moonless or enclosed scene?
Coverage What lens options and viewing angles are offered, and can the chosen lens frame the important distance?
Recording Is local storage available, what is the maximum card capacity, and can footage also go to cloud or an NVR?
Detection Are person and vehicle events supported, can zones be drawn, and are accuracy figures independently documented?
Installation What voltage, connector, wireless band and wired-network options are required?
Outdoor exposure What enclosure rating and operating-temperature limits are published, and how are cable joints sealed?
Service terms Which features require a subscription in your market, and are those terms current?

Bottom line

The EZVIZ C3X is best understood as a straightforward 1080p outdoor camera built around conditional color night vision. Its dual-lens approach, person/vehicle detection, configurable zones, active defense and three recording pathways give it a useful feature set for a powered entrance or driveway. The purchase is sensible when you can meet the 2.4 GHz or Ethernet requirement, supply 12 V DC, select the correct regional model and accept that extreme darkness may produce black-and-white video. Treat the 0.005-lux figure and all detection behavior as manufacturer-described results rather than independent guarantees, and verify current cloud terms before relying on them.
