Exzisus Arcade Archives is not scheduled to launch until November 5, 2026. The announced editions are for PlayStation, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch, but the game’s final manual, button assignments, options screens, supported controllers, and regional store listings are not yet available. That means any guide claiming exact Exzisus button labels or menu paths before launch is guessing.

You can still prepare a reliable fix. Work through the three layers separately: the physical controller and connection, the console’s input settings, and Exzisus’s own options after the manual is published. Treat the picture the same way by separating Arcade Archives display options from console video output and television picture controls. The procedure below identifies what you can check now, what must wait for release, and how to isolate a fault quickly.

What is confirmed about Exzisus Arcade Archives

Exzisus is Taito’s 1987 arcade shooter. Time Extension reports that its Arcade Archives edition is scheduled for November 5, 2026, on PlayStation, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch. A scheduled date is not proof that every regional store will list the same edition at the same time, so verify the final listing for your country before downloading or buying: Time Extension’s announcement.

No official Exzisus product page or manual has yet established the game’s default buttons, whether it supports in-game remapping, which controllers are accepted, or the names of its display options. The safe approach is therefore to avoid platform-independent labels such as “press A” or “select the CRT filter” until the title-specific documentation is published.

HAMSTER describes Arcade Archives as offering adjustable settings such as difficulty and, depending on the individual title, ways to recreate a CRT presentation. That is series-level information, not confirmation that Exzisus has a particular filter, aspect-ratio control, border color, scanline setting, or display menu. Use the Arcade Archives feature description as background only.

Start with a three-layer diagnosis

Before changing several settings at once, identify where the failure occurs. A controller that is not detected by the console cannot be repaired from an in-game menu, and a cropped picture may be caused by the television rather than the game.

  1. Physical layer: Check the controller’s power, cable, wireless pairing, charge level, and visible damage. Confirm that another controller or another game responds if one is available.
  2. Console layer: Check which account or player slot is assigned, whether the console sees button presses, and whether a system-wide remap or accessibility option is active.
  3. Game layer: Once Exzisus launches, open its manual or options screen and record the actual assignments and display controls. Do not infer them from another Arcade Archives release.
  4. Display path: Decide whether the fault is inside the game, in the console’s video output, or in the television’s picture-size and processing settings.

After each change, test one repeatable action—for example, moving through a menu, firing once, or opening the pause screen. This tells you which change helped and prevents a temporary improvement from hiding a second problem.

Controller troubleshooting

1. Confirm the controller and connection first

  • Use the controller that the console identifies as the active player. Arcade shooters often require a start or confirm input before gameplay begins, but Exzisus’s exact assignment is not confirmed yet.
  • If the controller is wireless, charge it, move it closer to the console, and reconnect it using the console’s normal pairing process. If it is wired, reseat both ends and try another compatible port or cable.
  • Disconnect extra gamepads, fight sticks, keyboards, and adapters temporarily. Multiple active devices can change player assignment or make it unclear which input the game is receiving.
  • Test the same buttons in the console dashboard. If the dashboard does not respond, remain at the physical or console layer instead of changing Exzisus settings.
  • Restart the console completely rather than merely suspending the game. A full restart clears many temporary connection states.

These checks establish whether Exzisus is the source of the problem. They do not prove that a particular third-party device is supported by the forthcoming game.

2. Check for a console-level mapping conflict

A system remap can make a controller appear faulty: a confirm button may have been moved, a trigger may be swapped, or one input may have been disabled. Review the console’s controller settings and return to the default layout temporarily. Also check whether an accessibility profile, guest profile, or parental restriction is applying a different configuration.

Take a screenshot or write down any custom layout before resetting it. If the game later proves to have no in-game remapping, the console-level layout may be your only workaround, so preserving the original arrangement makes it easier to restore.

3. Nintendo Switch: use the documented system remapping route

Nintendo documents system-level remapping for Joy-Con (L), Joy-Con (R), and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. The route is:

  1. Open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
  2. Select Controllers and Sensors.
  3. Select Change Button Mapping.
  4. Choose the connected controller and select Change.
  5. Assign the physical buttons you want to use, save the layout, and test it in the HOME Menu before opening Exzisus.

See Nintendo’s instructions for the supported controller types and the complete process: How to Change the Button Mapping on Nintendo Switch Controllers. This changes the Switch’s input mapping; it does not demonstrate that Exzisus offers an in-game remap menu or that every controller accessory will work with the title.

If remapping fixes the controls in the HOME Menu but not in Exzisus, check the game’s manual and options screen after launch. The title may read a different physical input than expected, or it may use a menu-specific confirm and cancel arrangement.

4. PlayStation and Xbox Series: isolate the system from the game

For the PlayStation and Xbox Series editions, begin with the console’s own controller test or dashboard navigation. Re-pair the controller, try a second USB cable if it is wired, and restart the console. If the dashboard works but Exzisus does not, capture the game’s version and the exact screen where input stops, then consult the final manual or the platform’s support channel. The available information does not establish a universal remapping path or a specific supported controller list for either platform, so avoid applying instructions written for another console.

5. Use the game manual before guessing button labels

When the release is available, open the Exzisus manual from the title’s information or pause interface if one is provided. Record four items:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Movement, fire, start, pause, and any secondary action assignments.
  • Whether the game distinguishes menu confirm, menu cancel, and gameplay buttons.
  • Which controllers the edition recognizes.
  • Whether remapping is available in the title itself or only through the console.

Do not assume that the Nintendo Switch’s A/B layout, PlayStation’s symbol layout, and Xbox’s letter layout describe the same physical position. Explain the physical button location when helping another player, and quote the game’s own label only after verifying it in the released manual.

Display troubleshooting

Identify the visible symptom

Describe the picture precisely before changing settings. “Bad graphics” can mean a cropped edge, a stretched image, black borders, a misplaced game window, flicker, excessive blur, or controls that feel delayed because the television is processing the signal. Each points to a different layer.

  • Cropped edges: The television may be using overscan or a zoom picture mode, or the game may have a title-specific viewport setting.
  • Stretched characters: An aspect-ratio or television scaling mode may be overriding the game’s intended presentation.
  • Black borders: Borders can be deliberate in an arcade-style layout or the result of console and television aspect-ratio choices.
  • Image too small or off-center: Look for a game-side screen-position or size option, then check the television’s picture-size controls.
  • Blur, shimmer, or artificial sharpness: Television enhancement, motion processing, or a chosen filter may be responsible.
  • Flicker or signal loss: Check the HDMI connection and console output first rather than changing a game filter.

Check Arcade Archives options, but only after release

Open Exzisus’s own options or manual and look for the settings it actually provides. Arcade Archives titles can differ: one game may expose a CRT-style filter, while another may offer only a few presentation controls. The series description does not establish a universal menu path or guarantee a specific option for Exzisus.

Change one setting at a time and return to the same gameplay scene. If a filter makes pixels softer or scanlines more prominent, that is a presentation choice rather than a hardware fault. Save or note the original value so you can compare it with the default.

Check console video output separately

If the console dashboard is also cropped, discolored, or intermittently blank, leave Exzisus out of the diagnosis. Verify the HDMI cable, the selected input, and the console’s output resolution or automatic display setting. A receiver, capture device, or HDMI switch can introduce another failure point; connect the console directly to the television for a short test.

If only Exzisus looks wrong while the dashboard and other games are normal, return to the title’s display options and manual. That pattern is evidence against a general HDMI failure, but it still does not identify which Exzisus setting is responsible.

Check the television last

Television labels differ by manufacturer. Look for a picture-size, aspect-ratio, screen-fit, 1:1, or original-size mode rather than assuming that “zoom” or “wide” is correct. Disable aggressive overscan or zoom for a test, then compare the game with the console dashboard. Motion smoothing and other enhancement modes can add processing delay; turn them off temporarily when diagnosing responsiveness, then choose the picture mode you prefer.

Do not permanently alter the television for one title until you know whether the game itself has a viewport setting. Record the television’s original mode so you can restore it for other sources.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Display symptoms and the next check

Symptom Check in this order Interpretation
All sources are cropped Television picture-size mode, then console output. Probably outside Exzisus.
Only Exzisus is cropped Released game display options, then television scaling. Could be title-specific or source-specific.
Image is stretched Compare the game’s aspect option with the television’s original-size or 1:1 mode. Two scaling layers may be active.
Black borders appear Check whether the game intentionally preserves an arcade ratio before forcing a zoom. Borders are not automatically a defect.
Flicker or signal drops HDMI cable, direct connection, input selection, and console output. Likely a video-path issue.
Controls feel slow while picture looks normal Television processing mode and wired-versus-wireless controller comparison. Input latency and image scaling are separate variables.

Platform comparison

Edition Confirmed Use caution about
Nintendo Switch Announced platform; Nintendo documents system remapping for Joy-Con (L), Joy-Con (R), and Switch Pro Controller. Final Exzisus controller compatibility, default buttons, and in-game remapping are unconfirmed.
PlayStation Announced platform. Exact model, controller list, button labels, and system-remap procedure for this title are not established.
Xbox Series Announced platform. Exact controller list, button labels, and system-remap procedure for this title are not established.

The reported platform range comes from the pre-release announcement, not from a final Exzisus store page. Check the official listing for your region when it appears, especially if you are deciding between editions or looking for a physical accessory.

Launch-day verification checklist

Use this checklist when the game becomes available. It converts an uncertain pre-release situation into a reproducible record that is useful for support.

  1. Confirm the platform, region, edition, and installed version shown by the store or console.
  2. Read the Exzisus manual before changing button assignments.
  3. Test every listed gameplay and menu input with one controller and no accessories attached.
  4. Check whether a console-level remap is active and save a named profile if you need one.
  5. Open the game’s display options and photograph or record the defaults before experimenting.
  6. Compare the game with the console dashboard to determine whether a picture problem is title-specific.
  7. Test the television in its original-size or non-zoom mode, then re-enable preferred processing one setting at a time.
  8. Restart the game after saving changes and verify that the settings persist.
  9. Write down the exact symptom, screen, controller model, console version, game version, and settings that reproduce it.

When a problem needs support

Contact platform or publisher support only after you can show where the failure occurs. Include the console and region, the Exzisus version, controller type and connection method, whether the dashboard responds, the relevant manual or options setting, and a short video if the symptom is visual. State whether restoring default mappings, disconnecting other devices, connecting the console directly to the television, and restarting changed the result.

This evidence prevents a support agent from sending you through unrelated display or controller steps. It also distinguishes a defective controller or HDMI path from a title-specific bug that requires an update.
