The Exynos 2100 is the newer processor and leads the Snapdragon 855 in the benchmark averages shown on NanoReview’s comparison page. The chips also differ in CPU design, graphics, memory, and 5G modem integration. Those results are useful for comparing the processors, but they do not guarantee how two specific phones will perform: cooling, firmware, power limits, and test conditions also matter.
Specifications: Snapdragon 855 vs Exynos 2100
The Snapdragon 855 launched in 2018; Samsung introduced the Exynos 2100 in 2021. The table combines manufacturer specifications, so it describes stated platform capabilities rather than a matched test of phones using each chip.
| Specification | Snapdragon 855 | Exynos 2100 |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | Qualcomm Kryo 485: one prime core up to 2.84 GHz, three performance cores up to 2.42 GHz, and four efficiency cores up to 1.80 GHz. | Arm Cortex-X1 main core up to 2.9 GHz, with Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55 cores; Samsung’s cited announcement does not give their clock tiers in the specification summary. |
| GPU | Adreno 640. | Mali-G78. |
| Manufacturing process | 7 nm, according to Qualcomm. | 5 nm EUV, according to Samsung. |
| Memory | LPDDR4x, according to Qualcomm’s launch announcement. | LPDDR5; Samsung specifies 51.2 GB/s memory bandwidth. |
| 5G and cellular | Qualcomm describes Snapdragon X50 5G modem capability alongside multigigabit 4G. The X50 is an external modem option, so 5G availability depends on the phone’s design. | Samsung describes an integrated 5G modem supporting sub-6 GHz and mmWave. |
| Other stated capabilities | Hexagon 690 and a Qualcomm-stated AI Engine capacity of more than 7 trillion operations per second (7 TOPS). | Samsung lists 26 TOPS AI capability and image-signal-processor support for camera resolutions up to 200 megapixels. |

How to interpret the process, CPU, and GPU differences
Newer process does not guarantee longer battery life
Qualcomm identifies the Snapdragon 855 as a 7 nm chip, while Samsung identifies the Exynos 2100 as 5 nm EUV. Samsung said its process could enable up to 20% lower power consumption or 10% higher performance compared with its own 7 nm predecessor. That is a Samsung claim about a generational comparison—not a direct measurement against Snapdragon 855, and not a promise of a particular phone’s battery life.

- The Galaxy S21 FE sports a sleek polycarbonate back with a premium matte finish that resists fingerprints and feels smooth in hand, giving it a stylish yet practical design.
Clock speed alone is not a performance ranking
The Exynos 2100’s Cortex-X1 main core is specified up to 2.9 GHz; Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 prime core is specified up to 2.84 GHz. These processors use different core designs and clock arrangements, so comparing those two peak numbers alone does not predict performance across applications. The Geekbench results provide one workload-specific comparison, subject to the limitations of the reported averages.
GPU names do not settle gaming performance
The Snapdragon 855 uses Adreno 640, and the Exynos 2100 uses Mali-G78. The available specifications and comparison-page averages do not establish which chip sustains higher frame rates in a particular game on every phone. Game version, operating system, graphics settings, cooling, and device power limits can change the result; NanoReview itself cautions that game FPS varies with game version, OS, and other factors.

5G, memory, and other platform capabilities
The distinction between modem integration matters when comparing phones. Qualcomm describes Snapdragon 855’s 5G capability with the separate Snapdragon X50 modem option; a handset based on the 855 may not include that modem. Samsung describes the Exynos 2100 as integrating its 5G modem, with sub-6 GHz and mmWave support. A chip’s advertised capabilities do not by themselves confirm which bands or features a specific handset supports.
Samsung specifies LPDDR5 memory and 51.2 GB/s bandwidth for the Exynos 2100; Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 launch announcement specifies LPDDR4x. Memory type and bandwidth are platform specifications, not a standalone measure of everyday responsiveness. Samsung also lists 26 TOPS for Exynos 2100 AI capability and camera support up to 200 megapixels. Qualcomm stated that Snapdragon 855’s AI Engine capacity exceeds 7 TOPS. These vendor figures describe claimed capabilities and should not be treated as a directly comparable independent test.

Which chip is better for a phone or game?
For the specific NanoReview averages cited here, the Exynos 2100 scores higher in both Geekbench 6 and AnTuTu 11. That supports a benchmark-based comparison, not a universal verdict on phones. If you are choosing between devices, compare the exact handset models and look for results from the same benchmark version, similar software, and sustained workloads. For gaming, a test of the same game on the actual phone models is more relevant than a GPU name or a general chip average.
Keep three kinds of evidence separate: manufacturer specifications, manufacturer performance claims, and third-party benchmark averages. Qualcomm’s claim that Adreno 640 delivers up to 20% faster graphics compares it with the previous generation, not with the Exynos 2100. Samsung’s announcement likewise cautions that actual performance may vary with device and user environment. The Snapdragon 855 Plus is a separate Qualcomm product with different clock specifications; its results should not be substituted for Snapdragon 855 figures.
