Neither ExpressVPN nor NordVPN is the clear choice for everyone. RTINGS’ comparison, updated July 10, 2026, rates them similarly for security and speed, but its results reflect a specific testing method rather than what every user will experience. Choose based on the price and renewal terms shown at checkout, the number of devices you need to connect, the platforms and features you use, and how you weigh each provider’s privacy claims against independent testing.

Which service is better for privacy?
Both providers make no-logs claims and cite third-party reviews, but an audit applies to the systems, policies, and period it examined. It cannot establish that using a VPN makes you anonymous in every situation. A VPN shifts some trust from your internet provider to the VPN provider; it does not erase account activity, browser identifiers, or other ways a service may recognize you.

ExpressVPN’s Trust Center lists an audit chronology involving firms including KPMG, Cure53, Praetorian, PwC Switzerland, and F-Secure. It also publishes transparency figures for January–June 2026: 137 government, law-enforcement, and civil requests; 1,361,382 DMCA requests; and 3 warrants. NordVPN’s published privacy information
NordVPN says it is based in Panama and identifies PwC Switzerland and Deloitte as reviewers. Its no-logs page contains a chronology discrepancy: its opening summary refers to six reviews through 2025, while a later section lists five reviews through 2024—PwC reviews in 2018 and 2020 and Deloitte reviews in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Because those sections do not agree, do not treat the page’s summary count as a settled audit chronology without checking the dated reports. See NordVPN’s no-logs information.
Which VPN is faster?
RTINGS’ July 2026 comparison rates speed similarly in its summary, rather than establishing a universal winner. VPN speeds depend on factors such as your starting connection, distance to the server, server load, protocol, device, and test conditions. Treat its result as a comparative test under RTINGS’ methodology, not a promise that one service will be faster for you. If speed is decisive, use a trial or refund period if available and check the current terms before subscribing; test from your usual location with the services and server locations you actually use.

How many devices can you connect?
The available figures differ by source and may describe different plan or product variants. RTINGS reports 10 simultaneous connections for NordVPN and 8 for the ExpressVPN variant it compared. ExpressVPN’s feature page, accessed in 2026, says up to 14 active connections. Do not assume either ExpressVPN number applies to every plan: check the current subscription terms and confirm what counts as an active connection before buying. Start with the devices you expect to use at the same time, not the total number you own.
Which features and platforms should influence your choice?
ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN’s feature page describes its Lightway protocol, leak protections, private DNS, split tunneling, and automatic obfuscation on supported platforms. It also states that its network covers 113 countries and supports unlimited bandwidth. NordVPN
NordVPN describes specialty-server options such as Double VPN and Onion Over VPN, as well as a kill switch and malware, tracker, and ad blocking features. These are provider-described capabilities; their usefulness depends on whether you need them and whether they are available on your platform. Check the current app and plan details before treating any feature as part of your particular setup.
A longer feature list is not evidence of stronger privacy. For a practical decision, list your essential platforms and functions first—such as split tunneling, specialty routing, or a device-wide router setup—then check the current app support for each service.

How should you compare the prices?
There is no reliable price winner in the figures available here: the providers’ dynamic pricing pages did not expose amounts in the page text. Open both providers’ current plan and checkout pages before deciding. Compare the same billing period and note the initial term, total charged today, renewal price and frequency, taxes, and any refund conditions. A low introductory rate can cost more over time if it renews at a higher rate or commits you for longer.

Which one should you choose?
- Consider ExpressVPN if its supported platforms and features—particularly Lightway, split tunneling, or its stated network coverage—fit your needs, and its current device limit and renewal terms work for you.
- Consider NordVPN if you need its provider-described specialty-server options or other listed features, and its current connection allowance and renewal terms fit your setup.
