ExpressVPN remains a premium-priced VPN with promising recent speed-test results and a substantial published audit record. Whether it is worth the cost depends on the full price after the introductory term and whether you will use the features in its higher tiers—not just the displayed monthly equivalent.
ExpressVPN plans and US pricing
ExpressVPN’s US pricing page currently lists offers billed for 28 months, followed by annual renewal. The monthly equivalents shown below describe the introductory offer; they are not the ongoing annual price. Figures are the retrieved US-dollar prices and may vary by market, tax, checkout total, or offer.
| Plan | First 28 months | Displayed introductory monthly equivalent | Annual renewal | Devices and notable features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $83.72 | $2.99/month | $99.95 | 10 simultaneous devices; Lite Protection; dedicated IP available as an add-on |
| Advanced | $125.72 | $4.49/month | $119.95 | 12 simultaneous devices; Advanced Protection, password manager, and additional privacy features |
| Express Pro | $209.72 | $7.49/month | $199.95 | 14 simultaneous devices; dedicated IP included; largest service bundle |
These amounts come from ExpressVPN’s US pricing page. The support center says Basic, Advanced, and Express Pro are offered in monthly, 12-month, and two-year introductory plans; two-year offers renew annually. All three tiers include ExpressVPN and ExpressMailGuard, with higher tiers adding more products and privacy or security features. Check the subscription details and the current pricing page for terms that apply to your location.

Basic: VPN-focused coverage
Basic is the straightforward choice if your main need is VPN protection and its 10-device allowance is enough. Its introductory total is lower than the other tiers, but the annual renewal is a separate cost to factor into a longer-term decision. Dedicated IP is an add-on rather than an included feature.
#1 Best Overall
- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
Advanced: pay more for the bundle you will use
Advanced raises the device allowance to 12 and includes Advanced Protection, a password manager, and other privacy features. It makes sense only if those extras are useful to you: compare their current availability and limits for your country and devices before paying the higher first-term total.
Express Pro: for included dedicated IP and the largest bundle
Express Pro includes a dedicated IP and allows 14 simultaneous devices. It has the highest introductory and annual prices of these three plans, so it is difficult to justify on VPN access alone. Consider it when the included dedicated IP or broader bundle meets a specific need.
The displayed monthly price can obscure the actual commitment: compare the amount charged for the full introductory period with the annual renewal, then decide whether the plan features justify both.

How fast is ExpressVPN?
Recent independent testing supports calling ExpressVPN fast, but the results are tied to each reviewer’s setup and are not a promise of the speed you will get. Tom’s Guide reported 1,177 Mbps for a local US download and 1,117 Mbps for a US-to-UK download in its April 22, 2026 review. Those are the publication’s measurements, not a service-wide benchmark or guarantee. Read its ExpressVPN review and test context for details.
TechRadar’s September 24, 2026 testing distinguishes Lightway from Lightway Turbo and reports different results for the protocols. That distinction matters: protocol, platform, server distance and load, local connection, and test method can all affect a speed result. A Windows test using Turbo should not be treated as directly comparable to a test using a different protocol or setup. TechRadar’s 2026 VPN testing provides its own comparison context.
What ExpressVPN’s audits establish—and what they do not
ExpressVPN publishes an index of external audits in its Trust Center. Among the dated examples listed there are KPMG’s third assessment of privacy commitments in June 2025 and Cure53 audits of Lightway in October 2024. The index includes additional product and system audits; each report has its own scope, so an audit of one policy, component, or system should not be read as an assessment of every feature.

ExpressVPN’s audit explainer, updated May 28, 2026, says external firms receive access to relevant source code, infrastructure, and documentation. It describes their role this way: “Their role is to test whether ExpressVPN’s systems and software work as described and to identify any vulnerabilities or issues.” That is the provider’s description of the audit process, not a quotation from an auditor. The explainer also says reports disclose issues and auditors may retest remediation. See ExpressVPN’s explanation of independent audits.

Advanced Protection depends on the plan and supported devices. ExpressVPN says its app-based features require a VPN connection using the Lightway protocol; Aircove can provide them across devices on its network. Check the current Advanced Protection requirements and the router model’s current availability before buying.
Verdict: Is ExpressVPN worth the price in 2026?
ExpressVPN is a plausible premium pick if you value its recent independent speed-test results, published audit history, or specific bundle features. Basic is the most direct fit for VPN-only needs; Advanced and Express Pro are worth considering only when their additional services or device allowances matter to you. Make the decision using the full introductory payment and annual renewal, rather than the promotional monthly equivalent.
