Its manual documents the installation and maintenance requirements, but the public CHOICE page withholds its expert rating and test scores. That means its specifications can be assessed, but there is not enough accessible independent test evidence to call its real-world performance good or poor.
What kind of air conditioner is the EPA58041RWB?
It is the reverse-cycle model in Excelair’s EPA580 product family: it can cool and heat, unlike variants in the series that do not have heating. It is a portable unit that uses an exhaust duct, so it needs a suitable window or sliding-door arrangement to vent hot air outdoors.
CHOICE’s public listing says a duct and window/sliding-door kit are included. The manufacturer’s October 2024 manual specifies a 150 mm-diameter, 1500 mm-long exhaust pipe. Check that the supplied kit suits your window and that the exhaust route will work in your room before buying additional parts.
What are its capacity and key specifications?
Excelair’s October 2024 EPA580 series manual rates the EPA58041RWB at 4.1 kW cooling and 3.3 kW heating. Those ratings are given under different stated test conditions: cooling at dry-bulb 35°C/wet-bulb 24°C, and heating at dry-bulb 20°C/wet-bulb 12°C. Capacity figures from products tested under different conditions are not directly equivalent.

CHOICE places its Expert Rating, cooling score, energy-efficiency score and high-fan noise result behind membership. The public information therefore does not establish a recommendation or a positive or negative performance finding. No accessible test scores or dated independent performance statistics are available here, so a verdict about cooling effectiveness, efficiency or noise would go beyond the evidence.
What should you check before buying?
- Window and duct fit: Measure the window or sliding-door opening and plan the exhaust route. Confirm the included kit works with that opening before purchasing a replacement kit.
- Drainage: Decide whether you can empty the internal tank when needed or route the supplied drain tube to a lower outlet for continuous drainage.
- Moving and placement: Allow for a 32 kg unit and its stated 415 × 418 × 790 mm dimensions when checking storage and placement. CHOICE’s listing gives a slightly different weight, 31.5 kg.
- Evidence for your priorities: If independent noise, efficiency or cooling-score results are essential to your choice, the public CHOICE listing does not provide them.
- Purchase terms: Check the warranty information supplied with the exact unit and retain the receipt.
How do you drain the EPA58041RWB?

Setting up continuous drainage
- Use the supplied drain tube at the unit’s drain outlet.
- Route the tube so its receiving drain sits below the unit’s drain hole; the manual specifies gravity drainage.
- If you need a longer run, the manual says the tube may be extended with another tube measuring 18 mm outer diameter. That extension tube is not supplied, and you should check that fittings and the route are practical.
How do you maintain and store it?
Clean the filter
Unplug the appliance before cleaning. The manual instructs users to remove dust by tapping or vacuuming the filter, rinse it in warm running water, and let it dry thoroughly before reinstalling. Do not operate the unit without its filters installed.
Prepare it for seasonal storage
Before storage, drain collected water, run ventilation for at least two hours to dry internal components, and clean or replace the filters. For the EPA58041 series, the manual says to store the unit in a room larger than 15 m².

What warranty and service information does the manual give?
