The Evercade Nexus is a portable retro gaming system built around Evercade’s physical cartridge library. Tom’s Guide’s Gamescom 2026 preview reports a 5.89-inch screen, dual analogue sticks and Tate Mode, alongside support for more than 70 Evercade cartridges representing 700+ games. Its announced launch price was $199 / £169, but that was a launch-price report—not confirmation of today’s price, availability or bundle.
What is the Evercade Nexus?
The Nexus is a dedicated handheld in the Evercade range, designed to play games from the company’s cartridge ecosystem. That makes its appeal different from a general-purpose handheld: its central proposition is portable access to Evercade’s retro collections, rather than a broad modern gaming platform.
Tom’s Guide reported that the Nexus works with more than 70 Evercade cartridges, covering 700+ games. Those figures come from the publication’s 2026 preview and are not an independent audit of the library. Collections mentioned include games from Atari, Interplay and Namco, along with franchise collections for Tomb Raider, Doom and Duke Nukem. The preview also notes Full Void, a modern indie game with a retro-inspired style, on cartridge.
What stands out in its design and features?
A larger Evercade handheld screen
The preview identifies a 5.89-inch IPS display, described as the largest screen on an Evercade handheld. In the writer’s hands-on impression, the screen looked bright; that is a subjective preview observation, not a measured brightness result.

Who is the Evercade Nexus for?
- A good fit: players who want a dedicated portable for Evercade cartridges and value access to that physical game library.
- Potentially less suitable: players primarily seeking a general-purpose modern handheld. The preview centers on Evercade cartridge compatibility and does not establish how the Nexus compares with other handhelds in performance, software range or value.
- Worth weighing: its reported display size, dual analogue sticks and Tate Mode against the subjective note that the triggers felt sluggish and the estimated five-hour battery life.
What the preview establishes—and what it does not
The available hands-on account is a single preview by Rory Mellon, who also spoke with Sean Cleaver, Head of Marketing at Blaze Entertainment. It provides feature and launch information plus the writer’s initial impressions, but no controlled comparison with another handheld and no independent battery, display or input testing. It also does not verify whether the Nexus has since launched, what it currently costs, or whether the reported bundle remains available. Read Tom’s Guide’s August 30, 2026 preview.
