Buy the Evercade Nexus if you want the larger screen, twin analogue sticks, wireless headphone support, EverSync local multiplayer, or its included Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack—and are comfortable with its announced premium price. Consider the original Evercade EXP if its current price, exact bundle, and controls suit you better. There is an important limit to a direct comparison: the available side-by-side reporting compares Nexus with the EXP-R, not the original EXP. EXP-R specifications should not be treated as EXP specifications. Nexus had been announced for October 30, 2026; as of October 13, that launch date was still in the future, so its stated price and bundle were announced details, not confirmed post-launch retail conditions.

At a glance: which handheld fits you?

Choose the Nexus if… Consider the original EXP if…
You want twin analogue sticks for games that benefit from dual-stick control. You find an EXP at a meaningfully lower current price and its condition and included games work for you.
A larger screen and wireless headphone support matter to you. You prefer the original EXP’s particular controls or bundle—but verify its exact model and included content before buying.
You want the included Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie cartridge. You already own an EXP and its controls meet your needs; an upgrade is not automatic just because Nexus is newer.
You and another player each have a Nexus and want to use EverSync for local multiplayer with one cartridge. You want an Evercade handheld and the price, portability, and games of a specific EXP listing make more sense for you.

The original EXP’s screen dimensions, battery performance, wireless-audio capability, and other model-specific details are not established by the cited direct comparison. Do not use the EXP-R’s reported specifications to fill those gaps. The direct comparison in Video Games Chronicle is explicitly with the EXP-R.

What is different about Nexus?

Nexus is a new Evercade handheld built around a larger 5.89-inch IPS display, twin analogue sticks, wireless headphone support, and EverSync. The side-by-side report gives the EXP-R a 4.3-inch IPS display, but that figure is for the EXP-R—not the original EXP. It does not establish the original EXP’s display size, so an apples-to-apples screen-size comparison with that model cannot be made from these reports. Video Games Chronicle’s announcement coverage describes the comparison and Nexus features.

The analogue sticks are more than an extra control option for the bundled games. The Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie ports are reported to include a reworked camera that supports twin-stick control. If you value the ability to steer movement and camera separately, that is a concrete reason to prefer Nexus over a handheld without that control layout. It does not, by itself, prove that every game in the Evercade library uses the sticks or benefits from them. Tom’s Guide’s prelaunch hands-on report covers the controls and bundle.

Wireless headphone support may matter if you play in shared spaces or prefer not to listen through the console’s speakers. It is a Nexus feature identified in the announcement coverage; the cited reports do not establish whether the original EXP has equivalent wireless audio, so check the exact original EXP specification if this is a deciding factor. WorthPlaying’s reproduction of Blaze Entertainment’s announcement lists wireless audio support.

How EverSync works—and what you need

EverSync is Nexus’s wireless local-multiplayer feature: two Nexus consoles can share a game wirelessly while using one cartridge. Both players need a Nexus. That makes it useful when two people want to play together but have only one copy of a compatible game; it is not a way to play with someone who has an EXP or EXP-R, and it does not eliminate the need for a second console. The announcement reporting describes the feature as local wireless play, not online multiplayer. Video Games Chronicle covers EverSync.

If EverSync is central to your purchase, confirm which games support it and what setup they require in current product documentation. The available announcement coverage establishes the feature’s basic one-cartridge, two-Nexus use case, but does not supply a complete compatibility list or step-by-step pairing instructions.

Games, cartridges, and what comes in the box

Evercade is a cartridge-based platform. Nexus was reported as compatible with more than 80 Evercade cartridges representing more than 700 games, so owners of an existing Evercade library have a reason to consider it without assuming they must buy their games again. Check the particular cartridge and any relevant device information if you are relying on one specific title; the headline compatibility figure is a platform-level report, not a guarantee about every possible game or future release. Tom’s Guide’s report gives the cartridge and game counts.

The announced Nexus bundle includes one Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack cartridge containing Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. Those games are part of the Nexus bundle described in the announcement; do not assume they are included with an EXP listing or another regional bundle. The package is a meaningful part of the value calculation if you want those games, but less so if you already own them or would not choose them. WorthPlaying reproduces Blaze’s bundle announcement.

Blaze head of communications Sean Cleaver told TechRadar that the Banjo versions use Rare’s original source code. He said the collaboration surfaced material in that code that the studio had not known was there, including unreleased tracks and a level editor, alongside unlockable bonuses. That describes content associated with these releases; it should not be read as a claim that the same extras are available across the Evercade catalogue. TechRadar’s September 11, 2026 interview report has Cleaver’s comments.

Price, launch timing, and accessories

Blaze’s announced standard Nexus price was $199.99 in the US, £169.99 in the UK, and €199.99 in Europe, with launch expected October 30, 2026. These are announced prices, not a verified current price or confirmation of availability. As of October 13, 2026, the announced release date had not arrived. Retail prices, stock, regional bundles, and shipping can change; check a current retailer listing in your region before deciding whether Nexus is worth the premium. WorthPlaying’s reproduction of the announcement gives the regional prices and timing.

The same announcement listed two separately sold accessories: a hard-shell EVA carry case with space for six cartridges and a screen-protector kit. It did not establish their prices or verified availability. Treat them as optional costs to check, not included equipment. If you regularly travel with cartridges, the case’s stated capacity may be useful; if not, it need not factor into the console comparison. The accessory details appear in the reproduced announcement.

Blaze also announced a 2,000-unit Nexus 64 edition with a separate announced regional price. That is a limited-edition announcement, not evidence of remaining stock or current resale value. Unless you specifically want that edition, compare the standard Nexus and the EXP on the basis of their price, condition, games, and controls rather than assuming the limited model is a better buy. Video Games Chronicle’s announcement report gives the edition’s stated run and price.

Battery life and portability: what is known

Blaze’s announcement claimed more than five hours of battery life for Nexus. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified test result. Actual battery life can vary with use, and the available reports do not provide a controlled test or a comparable figure for the original EXP. It is therefore not possible to conclude from these sources that Nexus lasts longer or shorter than the original model. WorthPlaying’s reproduced announcement states the claim.

The larger screen is a clear Nexus specification, but the available evidence does not provide a complete size-and-weight comparison with the original EXP. For portability, consider the physical dimensions and weight in the exact listing or official documentation before purchase rather than inferring pocketability from screen size. The announced carry case is a separate accessory, not proof of what the console itself weighs or how comfortably it fits in a bag.

Nexus vs. original EXP: the evidence-based comparison

Controls Twin analogue sticks; the bundled Banjo ports are reported to support a reworked camera with twin-stick control. Source. Original EXP control specifications are not established by the direct comparison cited here. Confirm the exact model and layout before purchase.
Wireless audio Wireless headphone support is listed in the announcement. Source. Not stated for the original EXP in the cited comparison.

Depends on the specific new or used listing and region; the cited material does not establish one universal EXP bundle.
Cartridge compatibility Reported compatible with more than 80 Evercade cartridges and more than 700 games. Source. Evercade is a cartridge-based platform, but the cited reports do not provide a directly comparable original EXP compatibility count. Check a specific cartridge if compatibility is decisive.
Battery Manufacturer claim of more than five hours; no independent test result is established in the cited reporting. Source. Comparable original EXP battery figure is not stated in the cited sources.
Price and availability Announced at $199.99 / £169.99 / €199.99, with an expected October 30, 2026 launch; these were prelaunch details as of October 13, 2026. Source. Current price and availability are not stated in the cited material. Compare the exact listing, condition, and bundle in your market.

This table is intentionally conservative about EXP: the available direct comparison is Nexus versus EXP-R. A comparison with EXP-R can help explain the newer design, but it cannot settle what the original EXP offers. The early hands-on coverage also does not establish long-term reliability or independent battery performance. Tom’s Guide describes its coverage as prelaunch hands-on impressions.

  • For retro gamers, handheld collectors, and players heading to trips, game nights, or conventions, the khanka case turns an evercade nexus handheld retro gaming console into a safer grab-and-go kit. • Please note: this khanka listing is for the protective case only; the console, games, screen protector, cables, and accessories are not included. Before purchase, compare your device dimensions, especially if you are matching an evercade nexus carry case, blaze evercade nexus case, or evercade nexus and banjo kazooie double pack setup. The tailor-made hard EVA case helps store and carry compatible Evercade gear without extra bulk inside backpacks.

How to choose between them before you buy

  1. Confirm the model name. Check that a listing says Evercade EXP, not EXP-R. The similar names matter here because the most readily available direct specification comparison is for EXP-R, and its details cannot safely be substituted for the original EXP.
  2. Compare the actual package, not just the console name. Record the included cartridge or games, region, condition, and whether the seller is describing a standard, limited, new, or used unit. Nexus’s announced package contains the Banjo double pack; an EXP listing may have a different bundle.
  3. Price the complete setup. Compare the current console price in your region, then add only accessories you actually want. The Nexus case and screen-protector kit were announced as separate purchases, with prices not stated in the announcement.
  4. Decide whether its controls and features change how you play. Prioritize Nexus if twin sticks, wireless headphones, or EverSync will be useful to you. If they will not, weigh the screen and bundle against the EXP listing’s price and included games instead.
  5. Check your cartridge library. If you already own Evercade cartridges, use them as part of the value calculation rather than assuming you need to rebuy your games. For a must-play title, verify compatibility for the cartridge and device you intend to use.
  6. Verify the seller’s current details. Because the cited Nexus price and release information was announced before launch, use a current regional listing for stock, final price, delivery date, and what is actually in the box.

Should you upgrade from an original EXP?

Upgrade if the Nexus features solve a specific problem for you: you want twin sticks for compatible games, a larger screen, wireless headphones, or EverSync with another Nexus owner. The included Banjo cartridge can also make the purchase more attractive if those games are new to you. The upgrade case is weaker if your EXP already plays the cartridges you care about and you would not use the new controls or multiplayer feature.

There is not enough cited original-EXP comparison data to make a blanket claim that Nexus is better in every respect or to quantify the improvement for an EXP owner. Before upgrading, compare the Nexus’s current regional price with what you could get for the EXP, and check whether the games and accessories in the Nexus package add value for you. Avoid basing an upgrade decision on EXP-R specifications presented as though they applied to your EXP.

Verdict

Nexus is the stronger choice for a buyer who wants its modern control and audio features, a larger stated screen, or the Banjo bundle, and who accepts the announced price subject to current retail confirmation. The original EXP can still be the better-value purchase if a specific listing is cheaper and its bundle and controls fit your use. If you already own an EXP, upgrade for a feature you will actually use—not simply because Nexus is newer.
