These 10 hacks every Even Realities G2 smart glasses user should know are built around the controls and features documented for G2: the Menu gesture, touchpad navigation, Teleprompt, Translate and Even AI. Most take seconds to learn, but two details matter before you start: gesture behavior changed in firmware 2.2.9, and language availability differs by feature and software version.
Use the glasses or the app to configure features while stationary. Do not experiment with repeated taps, swipes or voice commands while driving, cycling in traffic or doing any task that demands full visual attention.
Start with the G2 control model
G2 has touch-sensitive controls on both temples. The glasses and the optional R1 ring expose the same documented control functions when the ring is worn correctly and maintains a stable connection to both the app and the glasses. The ring is an alternative input method, not a requirement for using G2.

Keeping that distinction clear prevents a common mistake: looking for an on-glasses setting that exists only in the app, or trying to perform a phone gesture on the glasses.

1. Learn the Menu gesture for your firmware
The Menu is the launch point for major features, so learn the version-specific gesture first.
- Firmware 2.2.9 or later: tap the touchpad, then immediately press and hold it for one second.
- Firmware earlier than 2.2.9: press and hold the touchpad for one second.
If the older gesture does nothing after an update, try the newer tap-then-hold sequence. Conversely, a G2 that has not reached 2.2.9 may not recognize the newer sequence. Check the firmware shown in the app before troubleshooting a gesture that appears to have stopped working.
2. Move through choices with the correct swipe direction
Once Menu is open, swipe to move between choices and tap once to open the highlighted item. Direction depends on the surface:
| Control surface | Navigation swipe | Select |
|---|---|---|
| G2 temple touchpad | Swipe forward or backward | Single tap |
| R1 control ring | Swipe up or down | Single tap |
These directions are not interchangeable. If you move from temple controls to the ring, change your muscle memory rather than assuming the same swipe orientation. A single tap opens the current choice; it is not a scroll command.
3. Keep the core control gestures available
The official control set covers everyday actions and recovery commands. Practice them while seated so you can use them without looking down later.

| Gesture | Documented action |
|---|---|
| Single tap | Select or open the highlighted item. |
| Double tap | Trigger the feature assigned to the double-tap action. |
| Tap, then hold for one second | Open Menu on firmware 2.2.9 and later. |
| Swipe | Scroll through items; temple swipes run forward/back, while R1 uses up/down. |
| Five rapid taps on both sides | Restart the glasses. |
| Ten rapid taps | Open regulatory information. |
| Hold both sides simultaneously for one second | Toggle Silent Mode. |
Rapid-tap recovery actions can interrupt whatever is running. Perform them only when you are stationary and have time to confirm the result; do not try to count taps while operating a vehicle.
4. Choose the Teleprompt mode that matches your speaking style
Teleprompt offers three pacing modes. Selecting the right one is more useful than trying to force one mode to fit every presentation.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| Mode | How it advances | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| AI | Follows your speech. | Hands-free pacing when you want the script to track your delivery. |
| Auto | Scrolls at a fixed speed. | Predictable timing when your speaking rate is consistent. |
| Manual | Waits for your input before moving. | Variable pacing, questions, pauses or rehearsal. |
Choose the mode in Teleprompt before starting the script. AI is not simply a faster Auto setting: it follows recognized speech, while Auto continues at its configured speed and Manual stays put until you advance it.
5. Import scripts in a format G2 can handle
The Teleprompt guide documents TXT, DOCX and PDF imports up to 255 KB per file. For PDFs, simple text-based layouts are recommended. A heavily designed PDF, scanned pages or a file that relies on complex columns can produce an awkward reading order or fail to display as expected.
- Prepare a text-based script and keep the file at or below 255 KB.
- Open Teleprompt in the Even app and use its import option.
- Select the TXT, DOCX or PDF file.
- Open the imported script and preview it before presenting.
Previewing is especially important for PDF files because the guide’s recommendation for simple layouts is a compatibility warning, not a guarantee that every PDF design will reflow cleanly.

6. Set Teleprompt’s visible area before you present
With the app and G2 firmware at version 2.2.6 or later, the script preview includes two useful layout controls: display height and prompting width.
- Display height: choose from five through nine visible lines.
- Prompting width: adjust how much horizontal space the prompt occupies.
Set these values in the preview rather than waiting until you are on stage. Fewer lines can make a short cue easier to scan; more lines reduce the number of advances for dense material. Width changes the line breaks, so check the preview again after changing it.
7. Use Teleprompt countdown and resume settings deliberately
Teleprompt provides three documented start-countdown choices: start immediately, wait five seconds or wait ten seconds. A short countdown gives you time to look up and settle your posture; immediate start is useful when you are already ready to speak.
Each script can also use an auto-resume setting. When enabled, Teleprompt can return to the previous position in that script instead of starting at the beginning. Turn it on for a long presentation you rehearse in sections, and leave it off when every run should begin from the title. Confirm the setting per script so a saved position does not surprise you during a live presentation.
8. Switch Translate’s display with one tap
During a Translate session, a single tap switches between two display arrangements:

- Translation only: show the translated result without the source sentence.
- Original plus translation: show the recognized original together with its translation.
The app displays both the recognized text and the translated text, while the glasses view can be changed for the situation. Translation-only is less visually busy when you need the result quickly. Original-plus-translation lets you verify what the system heard and spot a misunderstanding before responding.
9. Restart Translate quickly and retrieve the record later
Starting Translate from the glasses’ Menu uses the last selected language pair and the last selected voice-input device. That makes a repeated conversation faster: open Menu, select Translate and begin speaking without rebuilding the same setup each time.
When you end a session, the app saves it under Translate > Records. From there, records can be exported. Use the app to confirm that the required language pair is available before relying on this shortcut; the remembered selection is a convenience, not proof that every pair remains supported after an update.

The Even Realities Support Center describes Even AI as “the AI assistant built into Even G2.” Saying “Hey Even” can start Even AI, and documented commands can control or open features including Translate, Navigate, Teleprompt, brightness and Notifications. Continuous listening can also support follow-up questions without repeating the wake phrase for every exchange.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsVoice activation is unavailable in Silent Mode. If “Hey Even” receives no response, check whether Silent Mode is active and disable it by holding both sides simultaneously for one second. Do this before changing app settings or assuming the microphone has failed.

Language support is not uniform across Even AI, Translate and other features, and it can change with software updates. Open the current language and feature options in the app and verify the exact language or pair you need. Do not assume that a language available for one feature is available for voice commands or translation.
A practical setup sequence for a new G2 owner
Use this order to reduce surprises before a presentation or multilingual conversation:
- Check the G2 firmware in the app and note whether it is before or after version 2.2.9.
- Practice the applicable Menu gesture and one-tap selection.
- Confirm whether you are controlling the glasses from a temple touchpad or an R1 ring, then use that surface’s swipe direction.
- Open Teleprompt, import a small text-based test file and preview its line count and width.
- Select AI, Auto or Manual, then choose immediate, five-second or ten-second start timing.
- Decide whether the script should resume its previous position.
- For Translate, verify the language pair and voice-input device in the app.
- Run a short translation, tap to compare the two display modes and locate the saved record.
- Test “Hey Even” for a supported command while Silent Mode is off.
Troubleshooting the most likely failures
Menu does not open
Check firmware first. On 2.2.9 or later, use tap-then-hold for one second; on older firmware, hold for one second without the initial tap. Make sure the hold is long enough and is applied to the touchpad rather than the frame.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Swipes move the wrong way
Identify the input surface. Temple controls use forward/back swipes; R1 uses up/down. A ring that is not connected stably to both the app and glasses may not respond consistently, so reconnect it before changing gestures.
Teleprompt text looks cramped or starts in the wrong place
In the script preview, adjust the five-to-nine-line height and prompting width. If the file is a PDF, recreate it as a simple text-based layout or import TXT or DOCX instead. Check the auto-resume setting if the script opens partway through.
Translate or voice control is unavailable
Verify the selected language or pair in the current app, then check Silent Mode. “Hey Even” cannot activate features while Silent Mode is on. Availability can change after an app or firmware update, so use the options currently displayed on your device rather than relying on an old list.
What to remember
The useful shortcuts are not undocumented tricks: they are small choices that match G2’s documented control model to your situation. Firmware determines how Menu opens, the control surface determines swipe direction, Teleprompt mode determines pacing, and Translate and Even AI depend on current language and listening settings. Configure those variables before you need them, and the glasses require fewer mid-task corrections.
