ESP32-DIV is a standalone, open-source handheld wireless toolkit built around an ESP32-S3—not a Flipper Zero add-on or documented clone. Its design uses a custom main board and a radio-and-infrared shield. The project publishes schematics and PCB files, but the reviewed documentation does not establish a complete verified bill of materials or confirm that a ready-made kit is available.
What you are building
The ESP32-DIV project describes a self-contained device that brings several wireless and device-control tools together in one handheld platform. Its documented design has two main physical parts: an ESP32-S3 main board and a shield carrying additional radio modules and an infrared transceiver. The project landing page says its schematics and PCB files are open source.
This is a DIY alternative in the broad sense of a handheld multi-tool, not a Flipper Zero clone or expansion. The project documentation describes its own hardware and firmware path; it does not establish that ESP32-DIV duplicates Flipper Zero’s features or compatibility.

Shield
The documented shield carries three NRF24 modules, one CC1101 module, multiple antennas, and an infrared transceiver. The project presents these as the device’s radio and IR hardware, but the component overview alone does not verify the capabilities or performance of a particular operation.
These are the project’s documented hardware contents, not a complete, independently verified purchasing list. Exact part variants, every required component, and retail availability of a preassembled ESP32-DIV kit are not established in the reviewed documentation. Anyone fabricating or sourcing parts should check the project’s current schematics and PCB files rather than treating the overview as a finalized bill of materials.

How ESP32-DIV differs from Flipper Zero with Marauder
There are two separate hardware paths that can be easy to conflate. ESP32-DIV is its own ESP32-S3 handheld project. By contrast, the ESP32 Marauder guide describes Marauder running on a compatible ESP32 expansion board connected to Flipper Zero over UART; the ESP32 runs Marauder, while a Flipper companion app provides the interface.
| Comparison point | ESP32-DIV | Flipper Zero with ESP32 Marauder |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Standalone ESP32-S3 handheld project, according to the ESP32-DIV overview. | Flipper Zero paired with a compatible ESP32 expansion board; Marauder runs on the ESP32, according to the Marauder guide. |
| Documented hardware | Custom main board plus shield with NRF24, CC1101, and IR hardware, according to the ESP32-DIV hardware overview. | A compatible ESP32 expansion board connected to Flipper over UART; the specific hardware depends on the board used. |
| Interface | Project hardware overview lists a touchscreen and buttons. | A Flipper companion app provides the interface to Marauder, according to the guide. |
| Firmware target | The project’s flashing page lists ESP32-DIV v2, v1, and CYD choices. Select the one matching the actual board revision. | Marauder releases distinguish a Flipper Wi-Fi Developer Board firmware target, identified by _flipper.bin, from other board targets. |
Flipper’s official Wi-Fi Developer Board is a separate accessory based on ESP32-S2 and intended for debugging and firmware updates. It is not the ESP32-DIV main board. The relationship is therefore one of distinct projects and hardware routes, not interchangeable devices.

How to choose and flash firmware
The ESP32-DIV site displayed version v1.7.2 when reviewed, and describes browser, desktop, command-line, Arduino IDE, OTA, and SD-card update methods. Version numbers, release assets, and interface details can change, so consult the project’s current flashing page before beginning. The browser-based Web Serial instructions specify Chrome or Edge on a desktop computer.
- Identify the board first. Check the physical board and its revision. The project lists ESP32-DIV v2, v1, and CYD firmware choices; do not select a target based only on the device’s appearance or on a guide for another board.
- Open the project’s current flashing instructions. Choose a supported method—browser, desktop, command line, Arduino IDE, OTA, or SD update—and follow the steps for that method and board.
- Match the firmware asset to the hardware. Confirm the target name and release asset before flashing. A similarly named firmware for another ESP32 board or a Flipper expansion board is not a substitute.
- Use a compatible browser if flashing over Web Serial. The project specifies Chrome or Edge on desktop for its browser method. If the serial device does not appear, first check the browser, USB connection, and serial access, then return to the board-specific instructions.
- Verify the result using the project’s update or startup guidance. If the device does not boot or the expected interface is missing, stop and re-check the board revision and firmware target before trying another image.
Storage and other build considerations
The SD slot is documented for uses such as logs, captures, and scripts. The reviewed project materials do not establish a required card capacity or speed, so do not treat a particular specification as mandatory without checking the current project documentation.

The custom main board and shield are the core physical parts of this build. The project publishes design files, but the reviewed sources do not confirm a retail kit listing or provide a verified, complete shopping list. Plan to use the project’s current hardware files to determine what fabrication and component sourcing your build requires.
