Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School is planned for November 2026, so its final control scheme and accessibility menu are not yet documented. Steam currently confirms support for Xbox, DUALSHOCK and DualSense controllers over USB, plus single-player, online co-op and shared/split-screen co-op. It also advertises an optional No-Timer Mode. Exact keyboard bindings, button layouts, remapping and most other accessibility options remain unverified until the released build and platform pages can be checked.
This guide separates confirmed storefront information from details that still need verification. That distinction matters: controller compatibility does not reveal which button interacts with an object, and a feature shown on a store page does not establish the menu path or every mode in which it works.
At a glance: what is confirmed
| Question | Current answer | Evidence and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Can I use a controller? | Yes, on Steam the full game is listed with full controller support for Xbox controllers, DUALSHOCK controllers and DualSense controllers connected by USB. | The listing confirms controller families, not button assignments, wireless behavior or remapping. |
| Can I play alone? | Yes. Steam lists single-player. | It does not describe the exact solo progression or control layout. |
| Is co-op available? | Steam lists online and shared/split-screen co-op. The Xbox listing describes two-player local and online co-op, shared/split screen, cross-platform co-op and cross-generation multiplayer. | Store metadata can change, and supported platform combinations should be checked after launch. |
| Can I remove the timer? | An optional No-Timer Mode is advertised on Steam. | The listing does not document its menu location, effect on every room or availability in every mode. |
| Are keyboard controls published? | No verified button-by-button keyboard or mouse chart is available. | Do not rely on controls from the original game or on an unofficial diagram. |
| Can I remap controls? | Not established. | The reviewed listings and developer statement do not confirm keyboard or controller remapping. |
Release status and why the details are provisional
Steam currently marks the sequel as not yet available and gives a planned November 2026 release. Until the game ships, store descriptions are the most reliable public indication of supported devices and modes, but they are not a substitute for a finished settings menu. Labels, platform support and accessibility features can still change between a pre-release page, a launch build and later updates.
The product is listed on Steam, Epic and Xbox. Those pages do not always use identical terminology. For example, language labels differ between Steam and Epic, and the Xbox page presents a more detailed platform and multiplayer matrix than Steam. Always read the listing for the platform and region where you intend to play.

- Solve escape room style puzzles and use several mysterious objects found in the box to find the treasure.
- A great introduction to the EXIT series featuring plenty of whimsical puzzles.
- Great for 1 or more players and takes 1-2 hours.
- This game can only be played once as you must rip tear, and destroy components to complete it.
Controls that are actually confirmed
Controller families
Steam’s full-game metadata explicitly names Xbox controllers, DUALSHOCK controllers and DualSense controllers, with USB called out for the PlayStation-family devices. This is a compatibility statement: it indicates that these controller families are intended to work with the game. It does not say whether every generation, third-party variant or wireless connection is supported.
A general PC game controller is therefore optional equipment, not a stated requirement. Keyboard and mouse support may exist, but the available listings do not publish their bindings. Do not buy a particular model on the assumption that it has been tested or that its layout is preferred.
Why there is no trustworthy button chart yet
The public information does not identify the buttons for movement, looking, interacting, inventory, hints, menus or puzzle actions. It also does not state whether prompts change automatically for an Xbox, DUALSHOCK or DualSense layout. Any chart claiming exact keys before the release build is checked would be an inference, not a verified control guide.
Demo metadata is different
Steam’s demo metadata reports partial controller support, while the full-game page reports full controller support. Treat those as separate claims tied to different builds. A controller that behaves differently in a demo does not prove that the released game lacks support, and demo behavior should not be used to publish the final game’s mappings.

Keyboard, mouse and remapping: what players still need to check
No reviewed source establishes the default keyboard keys, mouse actions, alternate layouts, hold-versus-toggle behavior, sensitivity controls or a way to assign new bindings. The same uncertainty applies to controller remapping. Platform-level accessibility features cannot be assumed to provide in-game rebinding.
When the release is available, use this verification sequence rather than copying controls from another title:
- Launch the current build and open the in-game options or settings area. Record the exact labels used for keyboard, mouse and controller sections.
- Check whether a controls or input page displays a complete list of actions. Test movement, camera, interaction, puzzle manipulation, pause and menu navigation separately.
- Look for an explicit “remap,” “rebind,” “customize controls” or similar command. If the page only shows a diagram, treat it as a fixed layout.
- Test whether changes apply to one player or all local players, and whether they persist after closing and reopening the game.
- Confirm that on-screen prompts match the device in use. A game can accept a controller while continuing to display keyboard prompts.
Until those checks can be performed on the final build, the accurate answer to “Can I remap the controls?” is “not verified,” not “yes” or “no.”

Platforms and co-op formats
| Platform listing | Modes or platform information shown | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | Single-player, online co-op and shared/split-screen co-op. | The listing does not specify the number of local players in the cited metadata. |
| Xbox (UK listing) | Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC; single-player; local co-op for two; online co-op for two; shared/split screen; cross-platform co-op; cross-generation multiplayer. | These are Xbox-store metadata claims and should be rechecked for the exact launch build and region. |
| Epic | The cited material does not provide a separate controls or co-op matrix. | Use the current Epic page for the edition you own. |
Local or shared-screen play
Steam’s shared/split-screen label indicates that the game is intended to support co-op on one system. The Xbox listing specifically describes local co-op for two players. The available information does not explain whether both players must use controllers, whether keyboard-and-controller combinations are accepted, or how a second player joins.

Online and cross-platform play
Steam lists online co-op, while the Xbox page names two-player online co-op, cross-platform co-op and cross-generation multiplayer. Those labels do not by themselves identify every permitted pairing, account requirement or invitation flow. Verify the current platform pages and the in-game multiplayer screen after release before troubleshooting a specific cross-play combination.
No-Timer Mode: the clearest confirmed accessibility option
Steam advertises an optional No-Timer Mode that lets players solve puzzles at their own pace. This directly addresses the pressure created by countdowns, but the listing does not say where the switch appears, whether it must be selected before starting a room, or whether it changes scoring, achievements or co-op behavior.
In a Steam Community discussion dated June 16, 2025, a developer account named sku11knight wrote: “hey dark, for Escape Academy 2, we’re implementing it with a no timer mode specifically cause of this thread!” The post also explained that the first game’s timer was too interconnected with room logic to remove feasibly. That comment provides development context for the feature; the current store listing is the appropriate source for its advertised availability, and neither source confirms every implementation detail.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf timed play causes pain, anxiety, cognitive overload or simply makes puzzle solving less enjoyable, plan to select No-Timer Mode as soon as the released game exposes its mode choices. If you cannot find it, check that the game is updated and consult the current platform description rather than assuming the option was removed or renamed.

Other accessibility settings are not yet documented
The available sources do not enumerate a complete accessibility inventory or show the settings-menu path. The following items should therefore be treated as open questions, not as promised features:
| Feature | Current status | What to verify in the released build |
|---|---|---|
| Keyboard remapping | Not established. | Whether every action can be assigned and whether duplicate bindings are allowed. |
| Controller remapping | Not established. | Whether Xbox, DUALSHOCK and DualSense layouts can be customized independently. |
| Stick or mouse sensitivity | Not established. | Whether camera and cursor sensitivity can be adjusted separately. |
| Subtitle size or presentation | Not established. | Whether size, background, speaker labels or timing can be changed. |
| Color or contrast options | Not established. | Whether puzzle-critical colors have alternate indicators. |
| Audio visualization | Not established. | Whether important sounds have a visual substitute. |
| Other accommodations | Not established. | Look for input toggles, hold/toggle choices, motion reduction and independent audio controls. |
Do not infer any of these options from the original Escape Academy, generic PC settings or community requests. Absence from the public listing is not proof that a feature will never exist; it means the feature is not verified now.
Language support depends on the storefront
| Storefront | Text languages shown | Full audio |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | English, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Spanish (Latin America). | English only. |
| Epic | The cited Epic listing uses Spanish (Spain) in its text-language information. | The cited material does not establish a different full-audio list. |
The Spanish labels conflict: Steam specifies Latin America, while Epic specifies Spain. Treat the platform and region as part of the answer, and check the live listing for your edition before purchase. Language availability also does not indicate subtitle size, contrast or other accessibility controls.
Prepare a setup before launch
For PC players
- Decide whether you will start with keyboard and mouse or a USB controller. Controller support is advertised, but no controller is required by the published information.
- If you plan to use DUALSHOCK or DualSense hardware, keep a USB data cable available because Steam’s listing specifically calls out USB.
- Update the game and platform client before testing input. A demo, preview build or old executable can carry different support metadata.
- Write down the actions you need for comfortable play, such as interaction, camera movement, pause and puzzle manipulation. This makes it easy to identify missing remapping options without guessing.
For co-op groups
- Choose local shared/split-screen or online play before inviting others; the available listings describe both formats but do not publish the join sequence.
- For Xbox play, confirm that every participant’s console generation and PC combination is covered by the current store information.
- Test both players in a low-stakes area first. Check prompt visibility, independent input and whether a second player can navigate menus.
For players who need reduced time pressure
Make No-Timer Mode the first setting you look for. Because its exact location and co-op behavior are not published, verify it in the mode-selection or options screens of the current build before beginning a long session.

Troubleshooting after release
The game does not detect a controller
- Confirm that the controller is connected by USB if using DUALSHOCK or DualSense hardware on Steam.
- Close the game, reconnect the device and relaunch so the build can enumerate it from startup.
- Test the full game rather than relying on demo metadata, which reports a different level of controller support.
- Check the current platform page and update notes for changes affecting your edition.
Prompts and buttons do not match
First identify whether the game is displaying keyboard, Xbox or PlayStation prompts. A supported device can still use a different on-screen convention. Look for a prompt or layout selector; if none exists, report the mismatch with the platform, controller family and connection type.
No-Timer Mode is missing
Verify that you are running the current release and not an older demo or preview. Search the mode-selection and settings areas using the exact wording shown on the live store page. If the option remains unavailable, platform support should be contacted with your version and mode rather than assuming that the developer’s 2025 statement guarantees a particular menu path.
Co-op will not connect
Separate local from online problems. For local play, test each input device independently. For online or cross-platform play, confirm that the platforms and generations are currently listed as compatible, then check account, privacy and network requirements shown by the platform holder.
Recommended Free Tools
What a reliable controls and accessibility guide should contain after launch
A complete post-release guide should name the exact build and platform, show every default keyboard and controller action, document remapping limits, identify the menu path to No-Timer Mode and list any subtitle, visual, audio or input accommodations. It should also distinguish local two-player behavior from online and cross-platform rules. Until those details are published or verified in the released game, the responsible guidance is to use the confirmed compatibility and mode information above while treating all unlisted settings as unknown.
