The right ergonomic keyboard for a Mac depends on whether you prefer a curved, one-piece board or two halves you can position separately. The Logitech ERGO K860 combines a curved split keyframe, wrist rest and full-size layout; the Kinesis Freestyle2 for Mac lets you space its two modules apart; and the ZSA Voyager is a low-profile programmable split option. Compare shape, layout, connection and adjustability before choosing—there is no established universal winner.
How to choose an ergonomic keyboard for Mac
Start with the arrangement you want, not a broad promise that a keyboard is “ergonomic.” These models differ in how their keys are divided, how much room they take up, and how much setup or configuration they ask of you.
- Choose a one-piece curved board if you want the split shape and wrist rest built into a single frame.
- Choose adjustable separate halves if you want to position the left and right modules farther apart; check whether any desired tenting hardware is included or sold separately.
- Check the layout and footprint. A number pad can be useful for data entry but makes a keyboard wider. A tenkeyless design leaves more room but omits the number pad.
- Confirm the connection and Mac requirements. USB receiver, Bluetooth and wired connections have different setup and port considerations.
- Be realistic about customization. A programmable keyboard can offer flexibility, but may require more configuration and adaptation than a conventional layout.
Mac ergonomic keyboard options at a glance
| Model | Documented design and layout | Connection or compatibility details | Check before choosing |

The ERGO K860 keeps both sides together in one curved frame. Its split shape is built into that frame, rather than made from two modules you can place independently. It also includes a wrist rest and an integrated number pad, which makes it a practical fit to consider if you want a full-size keyboard and regularly enter numbers.

Check the connection before buying
Logitech lists different minimum macOS versions by connection: macOS 10.14 or later when using the Logi Bolt USB receiver, and macOS 10.15 or later over Bluetooth Low Energy. The receiver requires an available USB-A port, so check your Mac or any hub you plan to use. Bluetooth Low Energy is the alternative if your setup supports it. Logitech also lists its optional Logi Options+ customization app for macOS; customization is not the same thing as basic keyboard compatibility.
Pairing and getting used to the shape
Logitech’s support guidance describes pairing through macOS Bluetooth settings and recommends allowing time to become familiar with the curved, split design. That is a setup and adjustment consideration, not a guaranteed adaptation period or outcome. See Logitech’s ERGO K860 setup guidance for its pairing steps.

- Ergonomist Approved: The ERGO K860 wireless ergonomic keyboard is certified by United States Ergonomics to improve posture and lower muscle strain
Kinesis Freestyle2 for Mac: separate halves and optional tenting
The Freestyle2 for Mac has two keyboard modules that you can position apart, unlike the K860’s fixed, one-piece frame. Kinesis describes a familiar Mac layout and Mac shortcuts, and identifies the keyboard as tenkeyless. That makes it worth considering if independent spacing matters to you and you do not need an integrated number pad.

Tenting is an accessory question
The two halves can be separated without assuming that the keyboard is tented. Kinesis’s tenting angles require optional accessories. Before buying, confirm the exact Freestyle2 model, accessory compatibility and what the particular package includes; a listing for the keyboard alone does not establish that tenting hardware comes with it. See Kinesis’s Freestyle2 for Mac product information and its Freestyle2 accessories information.
ZSA Voyager: a low-profile programmable split option
The Voyager is a further option if you want a low-profile split keyboard and are willing to configure a programmable design. Its maker says it works with Mac, Linux and Windows. That broad operating-system claim does not tell you whether its layout or configuration will feel suitable for your workflow, so review the current configuration details and availability before deciding. See ZSA’s Voyager product information.

What ergonomic claims can—and cannot—tell you
Physical features are easier to verify than health outcomes: the K860 has a curved frame and wrist rest; the Freestyle2 has two separable modules and optional tenting accessories; and the Voyager is a low-profile programmable split keyboard. These attributes describe how each keyboard is built, not whether it will relieve a particular person’s discomfort.
The product sources cited here do not provide head-to-head clinical evidence showing that one of these keyboards prevents or treats pain or injury. Do not treat a manufacturer’s ergonomic language as proof of a medical benefit. If you have persistent pain, numbness or other symptoms, a keyboard choice is not a substitute for appropriate professional advice.
