Yes—when you successfully claim an Epic Games Store promotional game during its advertised free period, Epic says it remains in your account library after the public offer ends. That access is a digital license, not ownership of the software. Epic’s End User License Agreement also allows rare situations in which a title may become unavailable for further download or access.
Whether you can claim or run a particular title depends on the offer deadline, your Epic account country, the game’s supported platform, and its own system requirements. Use the individual product page—not the Store’s general device availability—to verify compatibility.
What happens after you claim a free Epic game?
A promotional game must be claimed while the free offer is active. After a successful claim, Epic’s Store FAQ states: “When you claim a free game, it remains in your library to play – even after the game is no longer available to new customers for free.” The game should therefore appear in the library of the Epic account that completed the claim, even when a later visitor must pay to obtain it.

The license is subject to the agreement’s terms, and Epic notes that software can, in rare cases, be removed from the Store and become unavailable for additional download or access. “Keep it” is therefore a practical description of library access, not a guarantee of perpetual availability under every future circumstance.

Can you claim a game after the free offer ends?
No. Each promotion has a displayed start and end period, and the claim must be completed before that window closes. Epic’s support guidance says that missing the period does not create a later free entitlement; the practical option is to watch for a future promotion.
How to avoid missing the deadline
- Open the game’s current Epic Games Store product page rather than relying on an old announcement or screenshot.
- Read the free-offer period shown on that page and complete the claim before the stated end time.
- After claiming, verify that the title appears in the library of the same Epic account.
- Do not assume that leaving the game in your cart, downloading it, or merely opening its page completes the claim; the account must record the promotional transaction.
Promotions can change, so check the live listing for the exact title and region when you are ready to claim it.
Does “free” mean you own the game?
Epic’s wording distinguishes a free promotional claim from ownership of the underlying software. The transaction grants a digital license associated with your Epic account. You can normally install and play the claimed title through that account while the license and the service remain available, but you do not receive ownership of the code or a transferable copy.

What the license qualification changes
- The entitlement is tied to the account that claimed it; signing in to a different Epic account will not show the same library.
- License terms, platform support, and other restrictions continue to apply after the price changes from free to paid.
- Epic’s EULA describes rare cases where a product may be removed and no longer available for further download or access, so avoid promising unconditional permanent access.
For the everyday question—“Will I lose the game when the giveaway ends?”—Epic’s answer is no, provided the claim was completed successfully. The legal framing explains why that answer is not the same as a guarantee that the software can never be withdrawn.
Where is the Epic Games Store available?
Epic lists the Store as available worldwide on PC, Mac, and Android, and on iPhone and iPad in the European Union. Those are Store-level availability statements, not a promise that every free title runs on every listed device.

How to check whether a free game will run on your device
There is no single minimum PC configuration for all Epic giveaways. Requirements vary by game, version, operating system, graphics hardware, memory, storage, and other factors. Check the title’s live product page before claiming or downloading it.

- Open the game’s product page in the Epic Games Store.
- Locate the Platform field and confirm that your device and operating system are listed.
- Open or scroll to System Requirements.
- Compare your operating-system version and hardware with the listed minimum requirements. If recommended requirements are supplied, use them as the more comfortable target for image quality and performance.
- Confirm that you have enough free storage for the installation and updates.
- After claiming, install through the Epic Games Launcher or the supported platform path shown for that title.
Epic’s product-platform guidance is available at I purchased a game from the Epic Games Store. What platform can I play it on? Store availability alone cannot convert a Windows-only game into a Mac, Android, or iOS version.
Why can a free game be unavailable in your country?
The country associated with your Epic account can affect which products you can see or claim. Epic says the account country should match the country where you currently reside. Availability can also be limited by the developer or by marketplace requirements that apply in a particular jurisdiction.

Common reasons for an unavailable listing
- Developer-set regional restriction: The publisher or developer may block sales or claims in particular countries.
- Account-country mismatch: Your Epic account country may not reflect your current residence, changing the catalog or eligibility shown to you.
- Content already included in something you own: Epic lists cases where a product is unavailable because the account already owns a bundle, edition, or included content.
- EU seller-information requirement: Epic identifies cases where a developer has not completed a required self-identification process for EU marketplace sales. Epic says users retain access to products they previously purchased or claimed for free in that situation.

Work through the checks in this order. Most missing-library cases come from account identity, filters, platform mismatch, or license status rather than the promotion being revoked.
- Confirm the Epic account. Sign out and back in with the account that performed the claim. Epic warns that signing in through Google with the same Gmail address can lead to a separate Epic account from signing in directly with Epic credentials.
- Check linked-account differences. A console-linked Epic account and a separately created Epic account can have different libraries. Verify which account was active when you claimed the game.
- Search the library filters. Clear platform, genre, or installed-only filters that could hide the title.
- Check the hidden-library setting. A title moved to the hidden section will not appear in the normal library view until that setting is changed.
- Verify platform and operating-system compatibility. A claim can exist even when the current device cannot install or run that version.
- Check the license status. Epic’s Launcher support checklist includes confirming that the game was not refunded. A refunded transaction will not behave like an active library license.
- Refresh the Launcher session. Sign out, close the Launcher completely, reopen it, and sign in again before checking the library once more.

How to evaluate an individual free-game offer
Use four questions before you spend time downloading a title:
- Is the promotion still active? Check the deadline displayed on the current product page.
- Is your account eligible? Confirm the account country and investigate any regional message.
- Does the title support your platform? Read the Platform field rather than assuming Store-wide availability applies to the game.
- Does your hardware meet the requirements? Compare the game’s minimum and recommended specifications with your device.
This order prevents a common mistake: treating a game as unavailable when the real issue is a missed deadline, or claiming it successfully but discovering later that the title has no compatible build for your device.

You claimed before the timer ended, and the price later changed
The game should remain in the claiming account’s library after the public free period ends. You may still need to install the supported version and satisfy its current requirements.

You opened the page after the promotion expired
You cannot retroactively claim that offer for free. Epic’s support advice is to monitor future promotions instead of treating the expired listing as an entitlement.
The page is visible to a friend but not to you
Compare account countries and check for a developer-set regional restriction or an EU marketplace eligibility message. Also verify whether your account already owns related content that changes how the product is displayed.
The game appears in your library but will not install on a Mac or phone
Read the title’s Platform field and System Requirements. The Store may be available on your device category while that particular game supports only another operating system or hardware class.
