Eltek’s life-sciences expansion puts its environmental monitoring systems within a growing group that also includes Grant Instruments and Biosan. For laboratories and storage facilities, the practical offer is continuous monitoring built from sensors, data loggers, alarms and Darca software—not a promise that installing a system alone makes a site compliant.
What Eltek’s expansion means for laboratory monitoring
The announcement on 13 October 2026 presents Eltek’s stronger life-sciences focus as part of the growth of the wider Royston Instruments group. Eltek supplies monitoring for environments where temperature or humidity conditions need to be recorded over time. Its stated system combines sensors, wired and wireless data loggers, alarms and Darca software.
Eltek names refrigerators, cold rooms, ultra-low temperature freezers, incubators, stability chambers, cryogenic storage, cleanrooms and IVF facilities as potential monitoring environments. It says the system can scale from a single laboratory to multiple facilities. Those are company-stated capabilities; the announcement and product pages do not provide independent performance testing or an announcement-specific customer case study.

How Eltek, Grant Instruments and Biosan fit together
Royston Instruments’ portfolio comprises three businesses with different roles:

Grant Instruments announced on 8 October 2025 that it had fully acquired Eltek Limited. Grant said the combination would extend its data-acquisition business through Eltek’s wireless telemetry and cloud-monitoring expertise, including Darca Connect. The 2026 announcement also points to Royston Instruments’ acquisition of a controlling stake in Biosan. Royston’s portfolio page lists Grant Instruments, Eltek and Biosan as its businesses.

The group structure therefore brings together instrument and temperature-control expertise, laboratory equipment, and monitoring and data-logging systems. The announcement does not establish customer outcomes, market share or commercial growth figures, so the strategic rationale should not be read as evidence of those results.
What Eltek says its monitoring system can do
Eltek’s offer is a connected monitoring approach rather than just an isolated temperature reading. The described components are sensors, wired or wireless loggers, alarms and Darca software. When assessing a deployment, laboratories can use these practical questions to determine whether the system fits their operations and quality processes:

- Deployment: Does the location call for wired sensors, wireless devices or a combination?
- System scope: Is a standalone logger sufficient, or is a connected network and software needed across rooms or facilities?
- Measurement: Are the monitored parameters and sensor types appropriate for the environment and required range?
- Alarms: How are alerts routed, and what escalation process will staff follow when a reading crosses a limit?
- Records: Do audit trails, reports and data access support the facility’s procedures?
- Calibration and implementation: What calibration traceability and validation support are available, and how will they fit the organisation’s quality system?
These are selection criteria drawn from the features Eltek describes, not results of a head-to-head product comparison. The announcement and official pages do not provide a comparative technical specification covering sensor accuracy, alarm performance, connectivity limits or system availability.
What the compliance claims do—and do not—mean
Eltek says Darca Command records continuous, time-stamped, non-editable temperature and humidity data with secure, computer-generated audit trails. It says these records can support work toward 21 CFR Part 11 and EU GMP Annex 11 requirements. Eltek also says UKAS-traceable calibration and validation support are available.

Those features may contribute records and controls to an organisation’s quality system, but they do not certify a facility or make it compliant by themselves. Eltek explicitly says that no monitoring system alone makes a facility compliant and that validation remains the organisation’s responsibility. Buyers should assess the implementation, documentation and procedures against their own regulatory obligations rather than treating a vendor’s feature description as a compliance determination.

The announcements and official company pages establish the ownership context, the businesses’ stated roles and Eltek’s described monitoring capabilities. They do not establish independent test results, comparative specifications, customer outcomes or measured market impact. Organisations evaluating the system will need technical and implementation details specific to their intended configuration and facility.
