Elon Musk has described a way Grok could search for a product deal and place an order after a user uploads a photo of a credit card. But the report describing the idea does not establish that this credit-card-photo shopping feature is generally available. That distinction matters: finding a deal is one task; giving an AI system sensitive payment information and letting it complete a purchase is another.
What did Musk propose?
NDTV reported on October 11, 2026, that Musk described uploading a credit-card photo to Grok so it could look online for the best deal on a requested item and order it. NDTV reproduced his statement as: “To buy stuff, you can just take a picture of your credit card, drop it in the chat, and Grok @Bot will scour the Internet for the best deal on the item you want and order it.” (NDTV, October 11, 2026)
The described workflow combines two different actions: searching for an offer and placing an order. A search can return options for a person to review; a completed purchase requires payment details and some form of authorization to submit the order. Musk’s statement, as reported, describes both, but does not explain what confirmation or safeguards would apply.
Is Grok’s credit-card-photo shopping feature available?
The NDTV report presents the idea as a proposal and does not establish that users can access this workflow generally. It also recounts Musk’s claim that he had recently ordered Lego products through Grok, with the transaction taking place on Lego’s website. That anecdote is not independent verification of the transaction, and it does not prove that a public credit-card-photo feature is live.

In other words, the report is evidence of what Musk said he wanted Grok to do—not confirmation of a launched shopping service, its supported regions, or how it would work in practice.
What are the privacy and payment questions?
A credit-card image can expose sensitive financial details. Before using any AI service with payment information, a user would need clear answers about what information is collected, where it is processed, how long it is retained, who can access it, and how a purchase is authorized or reversed.

NDTV’s report describes privacy concerns and quotes a Community Note referring to xAI warnings about putting personal information in prompts and to cloud storage of data and credentials. Those are claims reported as part of the Community Note; the article does not independently establish the current wording of xAI’s official policy, retention periods, or transaction protections. The report therefore cannot answer whether uploading a card image would be safe under a particular version of Grok’s terms.

What should users do now?
Do not upload a credit-card photo to Grok on the assumption that the proposed process is a verified, generally available feature or that its privacy and purchase safeguards are known. If a shopping workflow becomes available, review the current service terms and payment flow before sharing any payment details, and check whether the system asks for explicit approval before submitting an order. The NDTV report does not establish those product details.

The headline phrase “We All Know You Want…” is not substantiated as a quotation in NDTV’s report. The verifiable wording reproduced there is the statement about taking a picture of a credit card and dropping it into the chat.
