For everyday local playback on a Mac, choose IINA if free, open-source software and macOS-oriented controls matter most. Consider Elmedia Player if you want documented casting to supported TVs and receivers or need to check its listed formats against your media library. Neither product documentation establishes that one player performs better or handles every file, so base the choice on the features you actually need.
How the players differ for everyday use
Both are Mac media players, but their official materials emphasize different strengths. IINA is built on mpv and focuses on integration with macOS. Elmedia describes a broad range of video, audio, and subtitle formats, along with playback controls, playlists, track selection, and subtitle features.

- Check your files. Look up the exact video, audio, or subtitle format you use in the current documentation. Do not assume a format list guarantees compatibility with every encoding.
