If Elden Ring shows “Network Status Check Failed” on Xbox, first check for a game update. Bandai Namco’s Xbox patch notice dated 24 February 2022 says the update addressed this named online issue. If the error persists after updating, check current service status and run Xbox’s network diagnostics; those later checks can narrow down the problem but are not confirmed Elden Ring-specific fixes.
Install any available Elden Ring update
Bandai Namco Europe’s version 1.02 patch notice specifically names “Network Status Check Failed” as an Xbox online issue that should be fixed. The notice lists App Ver. 1.02 and Regulation Ver. 1.02.1. This is a historical fix announcement, not proof that every later recurrence has the same cause.
- From Home or My Collection > Games, highlight Elden Ring.
- Press the Menu button and choose Manage Games and Add-ons.
- Select Update if an update is available, then let it install before trying the game again.
Check whether a service issue may be involved
Before changing router settings, check the current official Xbox service status and Elden Ring service notices. Service availability can change, and the historical patch notice does not establish whether either service is currently having an outage. General publisher connection guidance also recommends checking service status before troubleshooting a local connection.
Run Xbox network diagnostics
If the game is updated and no relevant service notice explains the error, test the console’s connection and review its network results. Bethesda’s Xbox disconnection guidance for a different game describes checking that network hardware is powered, running the console connection test, and checking NAT status. These are general Xbox diagnostics, not Elden Ring-specific remedies.

- Confirm Xbox is connected to the intended wired or wireless network.
- Run the console’s network connection test and note any reported issue.
- Review NAT status as part of the diagnosis; do not assume a NAT result alone identifies the cause of this Elden Ring error.
Use Ethernet as an optional Wi-Fi test
If the console is currently on Wi-Fi and a wired connection is practical, connect it by Ethernet and try again. This comparison can help determine whether the wireless link is contributing. It will not resolve a game-version, account, or server-side problem by itself, and the available guidance does not establish Ethernet as a guaranteed fix.
Change router settings only with a specific reason
Microsoft’s Xbox One network-port guidance concerns platform connectivity, but it does not establish an Elden Ring-specific port-forwarding fix. Do not begin by forwarding ports or changing firewall rules. If Xbox diagnostics point to a router or firewall issue, consult the current official Xbox network guidance and your router documentation before making a change; avoid applying a generic port list as though it were a confirmed solution for this error.
