You can obtain the Silver Grooved armor and shield on an existing character; you do not need to start a new game as Idus Knight. Guides place the Nomadic Merchant carrying those pieces near Bellum Church in northern Liurnia. The Idus Sword is a separate pickup on a corpse northwest of the Liurnia Lake Shore Site of Grace.
The exact rune price is not reliably established: current guides disagree, and one source contradicts its own itemized figures. Check the merchant’s live inventory in your game. For access, the Tarnished Pack is a separate purchase on PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam, while the Nintendo Switch 2 Tarnished Edition bundles the base game with that content.

What the Silver Grooved set is and how you obtain it
Silver Grooved equipment belongs to the Idus Knight content added with Elden Ring’s Tarnished Pack. Bandai Namco’s Patch 1.17 notes, dated August 27, 2026, identify Idus Knight as a selectable starting class and state that its equipment can also be purchased from merchants or found in the Lands Between. The patch supports the Tarnished Pack, scheduled for August 28, 2026.
That distinction matters for two different players:
#1 Best Overall
- Collaborating with George R.R. Martin to create the ELDEN RING mythos has been a genuinely delightful experience and a source of wonderful inspiration. The team is working hard to ensure that the world of ELDEN RING will be a fascinating place for players to explore, filled with peril and wonder from its furthest reaches to its lowest depths. This is a FromSoftware title through and through, rich in fantasy and RPG action. We sincerely hope you look forward to it.
- Building the world of ELDEN RING with Miyazaki-san and his team was a treat! The graphics, mythos, and action-RPG gameplay will deliver an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait for people to see what ELDEN RING has in store for them.” Said George R.R. Martin.
- Starting a new character: select Idus Knight during character creation if you want its opening setup.
- Continuing an existing character: travel to the reported merchant location and buy the armor and shield; no restart is required.
The official notes establish the acquisition rule, but they do not name the merchant, give a map route, list prices, or publish the set’s armor statistics. Those details come from guide reporting and should be checked against your current game version.
Where to find the Silver Grooved armor and shield
Merchant route near Bellum Church
Both All Things How and PC Gamer place the relevant Nomadic Merchant near Bellum Church in northern Liurnia. Bellum Church is the practical landmark: from the church, follow the nearby slope toward the merchant’s camp and inspect the shop inventory.
- Reach Bellum Church in northern Liurnia and activate the Site of Grace if you have not already done so.
- Use the church as your navigation reference and search the nearby slope for the merchant camp described by the guides.
- Speak to the Nomadic Merchant and open the shop inventory.
- Look for the four Silver Grooved armor pieces and the matching shield. Buy only the pieces you need if your equip load is already close to its limit.
- After purchasing, open your equipment screen and confirm that each item is in your inventory before leaving the area.
The route is guide-reported rather than an official map citation. If the camp is not where expected, verify that the Tarnished Pack is installed, the game is updated to the applicable version, and you are searching the Bellum Church area rather than another merchant camp in Liurnia.

Guide reports describe four armor pieces plus a shield. They do not establish official names, weights, poise values, defenses, or upgrade behavior in the publisher’s notes. Treat the merchant screen in your edition as the authority for those item details, especially if a later update changes values.
Where to get the Idus Sword
The Idus Sword is not reported as part of the Bellum Church merchant purchase. NerdsChalk’s guide places it on a corpse northwest of the Liurnia Lake Shore Site of Grace.
Rank #3
- Elden Ring: Nightreign - Seekers Edition /PS5
- Fast-travel to Liurnia Lake Shore.
- Travel northwest from the Site of Grace while checking bodies and item pickups in the open terrain.
- Search the corpse described by the guide and collect the sword.
- Watch for Wraiths in the area; their presence is reported as a nearby hazard, not as proof of a required boss fight or quest.
- Open your inventory immediately to confirm the sword was added, then inspect its requirements and scaling in the live game.
The guide does not establish that a boss, NPC quest, or special trigger is required for this pickup. Do not wait for a quest step that the available location report does not mention.
How much does the Silver Grooved set cost?
There is no dependable published rune total at present. The official Patch 1.17 notes do not list prices, and secondary guides conflict materially.

| Source | Reported information | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| All Things How | Lists the four armor pieces and shield at 1,000, 1,500, 1,000, 1,500, and 2,000 runes, respectively, for a reported 7,000-rune total. | Useful as one guide’s itemized report, not a confirmed universal price. |
| Sportsrant | Reports a 7,000-rune total; individual prices are not stated in a complete, independently checkable list. | Confirms that guide reports exist, but does not resolve the discrepancy. |
| NerdsChalk | Its listed prices add to 6,000 runes, while the article’s prose claims 13,500 runes. | The internal contradiction makes either figure unsuitable as a settled price. |
Differences could reflect guide errors, edition or version differences, or transcription mistakes. Before farming runes, open the merchant’s current inventory and record the five prices shown on your platform. That in-game screen is the only reliable basis for your purchase budget. The rune cost of the equipment is separate from the real-money DLC price.
Tarnished Pack access and platform requirements
Availability depends on your platform and edition. Bandai Namco’s Tarnished Edition announcement and its Community Quests announcement describe the following arrangement:
| Platform or edition | How the content is obtained | Published price information |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 4/5 | Buy the Tarnished Pack separately and install it with the game. | The standard price published by Bandai Namco Entertainment America in 2026 is $4.99; local currency prices may vary. |
| Xbox One/Series X|S | Buy the Tarnished Pack separately. | $4.99 standard U.S. price, with local variation. |
| Steam | Buy the Tarnished Pack separately for the PC version. | $4.99 standard U.S. price, with local variation. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 Tarnished Edition | The edition includes the base game and Tarnished Pack content. | Use the regional store listing for the current edition price; the $4.99 figure applies to the separate pack, not the bundled game. |
The Patch 1.17 notes list PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S, and Steam as target platforms. If you own one of those versions but cannot see the Idus Knight option or related equipment, confirm that the pack entitlement is attached to the same account and that the game has completed its update and content installation.
Building a Dexterity-focused Idus Knight
The official patch notes introduce the class and acquisition method, not a prescribed build. Dexterity recommendations below are build advice, not official requirements or balance claims. Secondary coverage characterizes Idus Knight as Dexterity-oriented and discusses pairing the class with the Idus Sword, but available reports do not provide authoritative current requirements or scaling values. Read those values from your live equipment screen before spending levels.
1. Make Dexterity the offensive foundation
Start by checking the Idus Sword’s attribute requirements and scaling in your inventory. Meet every requirement first, then make Dexterity your principal offensive investment if the sword’s current scaling rewards it. If the weapon displays meaningful Strength requirements, add only enough Strength to wield it unless your chosen moveset gives you a reason to invest further. Do not copy a fixed level spread from an older guide without checking the current item data.
For an existing character, compare your current attributes with the sword’s requirements before buying the complete set. The armor and shield do not force a respec; they can be layered onto a character whose weapon and survivability plan already work.
2. Keep Vigor and Endurance ahead of fashion
Dexterity increases damage, but a melee character still needs enough Vigor to survive mistakes and enough Endurance for stamina and equipment load. Put defensive levels where your current fights expose a weakness: raise Vigor if ordinary attacks are killing you, or Endurance if the Silver Grooved pieces, shield, and sword push you into an unwanted roll category.
Armor weight is a trade-off, not a requirement to wear every matching piece. Try the full set, then test movement and stamina in a safe area. If the load is too high, remove the shield first if you prefer two-handed attacks, or replace one heavy armor piece rather than abandoning Dexterity investment. Use the heaviest combination that preserves the movement and recovery pattern you can play consistently.

- Traverse the breathtaking world on foot or on horseback, alone or online with other players, and fully immerse yourself in the grassy plains, suffocating swamps, spiraling mountains, and foreboding castles
- Create your character in FromSoftware’s refi ned action-RPG and defi ne your playstyle by experimenting with a wide variety of weapons, magical abilities, and skills found throughout the world
- Charge into battle, pick off enemies one-by-one using stealth, or even call upon allies for aid - many options are at your disposal as you decide how to approach exploration and combat
3. Decide between shield-and-sword and two-handing
The shield gives you a defensive option for learning enemy timing, blocking a hit, or controlling narrow approaches. It also adds weight and can encourage stamina-draining blocks. Two-handing the sword removes the shield’s weight and lets you commit to a more mobile, attack-focused style, but it leaves mistakes less forgiving.
- Use the shield when you are learning an area, need a safer response to ordinary attacks, or can maintain stamina after blocking.
- Two-hand the sword when your roll is too heavy, you want a lighter load, or you are comfortable avoiding rather than absorbing attacks.
- Switch during exploration instead of treating one grip as permanent; the best choice can change between a cramped dungeon and an open field.
4. Tune the armor to the weapon, not the other way around
Equip the Idus Sword first, then add the armor pieces and shield while watching your load. If the complete set makes your movement clumsy, keep the pieces that provide the most useful protection for your current fights and use lighter alternatives for the rest. Because the available sources do not publish verified Silver Grooved weight or poise values, compare the numbers shown in your own equipment menu.
5. Check scaling after every upgrade
Weapon upgrades can change the damage contribution shown for attributes. Before committing materials, compare the Idus Sword’s displayed attack power and scaling with your other Dexterity options. If another weapon in your inventory has better reach or a moveset you can use safely, it may outperform the themed sword for a particular area even when the Idus Sword fits the class fantasy.
6. Build a repeatable combat loop
A practical Dexterity loop is to approach at a distance that lets you read the enemy, attack during a recovery window, then disengage before stamina is exhausted. Keep enough stamina for an escape rather than chaining every available attack. Against groups, use terrain and spacing instead of assuming the shield can stop every hit. Against Wraiths near the reported sword pickup, isolate targets where possible so that a single dodge does not carry you into another enemy.
Troubleshooting common problems
The merchant does not appear
- Confirm that you are at the merchant camp near Bellum Church in northern Liurnia, not merely somewhere in the region.
- Check that the Tarnished Pack is installed and recognized by your platform account.
- Finish the current game update, return to the title screen, and reload the character so the updated inventory can populate.
- If the inventory still lacks the pieces, compare your version and platform with the Patch 1.17 target list and consult the platform’s installed-content screen.
The sword is not at the corpse
- Start from Liurnia Lake Shore and search northwest rather than returning to Bellum Church.
- Search the corpses and item glows around the reported location carefully; the pickup is separate from the merchant stock.
- Expect Wraiths as a reported local hazard, but do not assume a boss or quest flag is required without an in-game prompt.
You cannot afford the listed price
Do not plan around a guide’s total. Open the live shop, note each displayed price, and farm only the amount your version requires. The conflicting reports make a fixed rune budget unreliable.
The full set makes the character too slow
Remove the shield or one armor piece, then retest your movement before spending levels. If the setup remains too heavy and you want to keep the complete set, invest in Endurance according to your broader build plan rather than reducing Dexterity blindly.
Practical checklist
- Install or verify the Tarnished Pack for your platform.
- Travel to the Nomadic Merchant camp reported near Bellum Church.
- Check the live prices for all four armor pieces and the shield.
- Travel northwest from Liurnia Lake Shore for the separate Idus Sword pickup.
- Inspect current requirements, scaling, weight, defenses, and poise in your inventory.
- Set Dexterity as the main damage direction while maintaining enough Vigor and Endurance for your playstyle.
- Choose shield use or two-handing based on stamina, load, and the area you are exploring.
Bottom line
The Silver Grooved armor and shield are an obtainable equipment set for existing characters, with the reported merchant near Bellum Church. The Idus Sword requires a separate pickup northwest of Liurnia Lake Shore. Because published rune figures conflict, use the live merchant inventory rather than a guide’s total. Build around Dexterity only after checking the current sword requirements and scaling, and adjust the armor and shield to preserve the mobility your combat style needs.
