El Paso, Elsewhere 2 is the sequel to Strange Scaffold’s 2023 vampire shooter, and its free PC demo is playable now. The complete game is planned for launch in 2027 on Windows PC and Xbox Series X. It returns vampire hunter James Savage to a supernatural nightmare, then expands the original’s slow-motion gunplay with swamp environments, vertical movement, new enemies and a different healing system.
What is El Paso, Elsewhere 2?
The sequel continues the story of James Savage, the vampire hunter introduced in El Paso, Elsewhere. After a betrayal involving an Eldritch God, Savage is trapped in a monster-filled Void. The setting moves beyond the first game’s motel corridors into broader, more vertical spaces, including swamps.
Strange Scaffold is keeping the series’ defining identity: dramatic slow-motion shooting presented through a deliberately low-poly, PlayStation 2-inspired visual style. Director Xalavier Nelson Jr. describes the intended shift in combat as the Quake to El Paso, Elsewhere’s Doom
—a shorthand for faster, more spatially varied action rather than a change away from the original’s gunplay foundation.
Can you play the sequel now?
Yes. A free PC demo is available now, released ahead of Steam Next Fest. It is a preview rather than the complete campaign, so it should not be treated as the 2027 release.

The sequel keeps the original’s visual language and slow-motion shooting while widening nearly every part of the combat sandbox.

More vertical movement
The vampire double-jump is the clearest movement upgrade. It gives Savage a way to gain height, cross gaps and approach encounters from different angles. Combined with swamp terrain and more open layouts, it should make positioning a larger part of each fight than it was in the motel-focused original.

Flying gargoyles are one confirmed addition. Their ability to attack from the air complements the sequel’s vertical spaces and means threats will not be limited to the same horizontal lanes as Savage. The game also promises additional enemy types, although the available announcement does not provide a complete roster.

New weapons and a new way to heal
The sequel adds weapons such as a Tommy gun that fires stakes, extending the series’ supernatural ammunition theme into a rapid-fire format.
Healing also changes substantially. Instead of collecting pills, Savage uses a glass stake to turn defeated monsters into “Capri Suns,” which then serve as the healing resource. This ties recovery directly to combat encounters and gives the sequel a distinct risk-and-reward rhythm, but the announcement does not specify the exact limits or rules of the mechanic.

How long is the sequel?
The planned campaign is reduced from the original’s 50 levels to 20 levels. That is a structural change, not a published promise of a shorter overall experience: the sequel’s levels are described as more idea-focused, suggesting that each one is intended to concentrate on a particular combat, setting or design concept. No total playtime has been announced.
