One market tracker counted eight Chinese or Chinese-owned vehicle brands sold in Pakistan, with facts checked on 14 September 2026. That is a bounded tracker count, not an official census: it includes commercial vehicles and a marque described as available through an independent importer. Pakistan’s recovering vehicle market creates room for some entrants, but the available figures do not show how many brands can earn sustainable returns.
Why the number depends on what “operating” means
There is no single count unless the scope is defined. “Operating” might mean a passenger-car marque with active sales, any Chinese-owned vehicle brand, a locally assembling company, or a vehicle available through an independent importer. Sub-brands add another boundary: counting each separately produces a different total from counting only parent companies.
CN Auto HR’s tracker, checked on 14 September 2026, lists eight Chinese or Chinese-owned brands sold in Pakistan: MG, Changan, Chery, Haval, BYD, JAC, Foton and Tank. Foton is a commercial-vehicle marque; the tracker describes Tank as offered through an independent importer. It also flags that some brand entry dates need rechecking against primary sources. Treat its eight as a tracker’s count under its stated scope—not as a government or Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) census.
| Counting choice | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Passenger vehicles only | Excludes commercial-vehicle marques such as Foton from a passenger-car count. |
| Parent brands or sub-brands | Counting marque-level lines separately can increase the total; a Pakistan OMODA JAECOO site says its OMODA and JAECOO lines were introduced on 1 August 2025. |
| Official distribution or any availability | Including independently imported vehicles can add brands that do not have the same local sales or assembly arrangement as an official distributor. |
Local production announcements also illustrate why a roster of parent brands may not capture every name consumers see. Master Changan Motors said in January 2026 that volume production had begun for the locally assembled Deepal S05 range-extended electric vehicle (REEV). That is evidence of a local product line, not a reason by itself to add every sub-brand to the eight-brand count.
#1 Best Overall
- High-quality car model: Package size: 9.41×4.96×3.46 in. package weight: 1.01 pounds. Made of zinc alloy, plastic and electronics. Safe material. Suitable for children as well as adults to play.
- Cool light and sound: There is a three-position switch on the bottom of the car. When in the middle gear, the front and rear lights are on continuously. When in the sound gear, pressing on the front of the car triggers sound and light effects, pressing the horn also makes a realistic horn sound.
- Exquisite design:It has detailed interior. The doors, hood and trunk can be opened. Mirrors can be folded. The wheels simulates shock absorption.
- Interesting pull back car: Put the car on the ground, press and hold the car body, then pull back, it will drive forward. Very funny.
- Awesome Gift: The car toy is perfect for birthdays, Christmas gifts, party and cake decorations. It can be a valuable reward gift for kids. It is also good for model car collectors.
What the demand figures say—and what they do not
The reported figures show a recovery in vehicle demand across specific periods and segments. They cannot be combined into one market total because their coverage differs.
| Measure | Reported volume | Period and source |
|---|---|---|
| Cars sold | 65,910, up from 46,502 a year earlier; reported growth was 41.73% | July–December FY2025–26; Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), citing PAMA, 14 January 2026. |
| Passenger vehicles: cars, jeeps and light commercial vehicles | 166,044, up from 111,518 in the same period a year earlier | First 10 months of FY2025–26 (10MFY26); PACRA’s 2026 company rating document. |
The figures describe aggregate demand, not the number of buyers available to each entrant. They do not break out demand by price band, powertrain, or individual brand. A rise in overall sales therefore does not establish that premium SUVs, electric vehicles, hybrids, or lower-priced models have room for every newcomer.
PAMA’s official “Monthly Production & Sales of Vehicles” page provides month-wise data through June 2026. Those later monthly figures are the appropriate place to check updated market totals; they should still be compared using consistent periods and segment definitions.
Which Chinese brands are assembling vehicles in Pakistan?
The evidence establishes specific local-production steps, not a complete, verified assembly-status list for every brand in the tracker.
Deepal S05
In a January 2026 announcement, Master Changan Motors said volume production had begun for the locally assembled Deepal S05 REEV. The company also described itself as Pakistan’s fourth-largest automotive brand and said it served more than 65,000 customers; those are company-reported claims, not independently audited rankings or customer totals. The announcement signals an industrial commitment, but it does not establish the model’s long-run output or profitability.
BYD and the Gharo facility
PACRA described Mega Motor Company as the sole authorized distributor of BYD vehicles in Pakistan, then operating with completely built-up (CBU) distribution while preparing for completely knocked-down (CKD) assembly at Gharo. PACRA reported a target annual capacity of 25,000 units on a double-shift basis, with completion expected by the end of calendar year 2026. This is planned capacity, not confirmed production or factory utilization.
Pakistan’s Press Information Department reported on 18 June 2026 that BYD and Mega Motor Company told Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb the facility was progressing according to schedule. The meeting discussed local content, supplier development, charging infrastructure, training and export ambitions. The official account records the project update and discussion; it does not confirm that the plant had been commissioned.
Why local assembly matters
Assembly can reduce reliance on importing finished vehicles and create opportunities to develop domestic suppliers. But a stated factory capacity is not the same as actual output: the relevant questions are whether production starts, how much of the capacity is used, and whether local production can serve buyers at viable prices. The public figures cited here do not answer those questions for the market as a whole.

Can Pakistan sustain eight—or more—Chinese brands?
The evidence supports a conditional answer, not a sustainable brand count. Growth from a depressed base offers an opening, but aggregate sales and announced investment do not prove that each marque can reach repeat demand, cover operating costs or maintain durable customer support. The available figures do not establish brand-level break-even thresholds, audited profitability, or long-term capacity utilization.
Demand must fit each brand’s products and prices
A growing total market is not automatically a large market for every segment. Whether a brand can build repeat sales depends on the fit between its vehicles, prices and the buyers it can reach. The cited market totals do not show the addressable demand for individual price bands or powertrains.
Production plans need buyers and utilization
Local assembly can improve the economics of a vehicle business, but only if sales support production. The 25,000-unit annual figure reported for the BYD-Mega Motor Gharo facility is a double-shift target; it is not evidence that the plant will produce that volume. Utilization and actual output matter more to sustainability than a capacity announcement on its own.

Service, parts and resale affect repeat demand
Parts availability, warranty support, service coverage and resale confidence all influence whether owners return to a brand and recommend it. The available evidence does not quantify these measures across the Chinese brands in Pakistan, so it cannot support a claim that one network is stronger than another.
Electric-vehicle growth depends on the wider ecosystem
PACRA identifies rooftop solar and fuel costs among factors supporting new-energy-vehicle demand, while the government’s account of the Gharo project discussion highlights charging infrastructure as an adoption issue. Those factors make an opportunity plausible; they are not a forecast of EV sales or proof of a particular brand’s viability.
Consolidation is a risk to watch, not an established outcome
The tracker describes different local partners and routes to market, but the evidence here does not provide audited market shares or profitability by Chinese brand. That is not enough to declare an imminent shakeout—or to conclude that Pakistan can sustain every entrant. Future PAMA sales data and company disclosures can help show whether volumes are concentrating, but sales alone would still not prove profitability.
What a buyer or market watcher should monitor
To judge whether the market is supporting a durable group of brands, look for evidence that connects demand, manufacturing and ownership support rather than relying on a headline count.
Quick Recap
- Consistent sales comparisons: use the same fiscal period and vehicle segment when tracking market growth.
- Verified production: distinguish a proposed or target capacity from a commissioned facility and reported output.
- Local-content progress: look for concrete supplier development and sustained local production, not only project announcements.
- Ownership support: check for practical evidence of parts access, warranty servicing and service reach.
- Brand-level performance: seek comparable sales and financial disclosures before inferring market share, break-even or likely consolidation.
