Short answer: The EGO Power+ LM1704E-SP is the Australian-market identity for a 42 cm, 56 V cordless mower with self-propelled drive. Australian EGO promotional material describes a kit containing a 5.0 Ah battery and charger, while a current Total Tools listing identifies the same model as a 56 V, 5.0 Ah mower kit. Confirm the seller’s live bundle before paying because promotional inclusions can change.
This is a buying-focused review rather than a claim of hands-on testing. The available manufacturer and retailer material establishes the mower’s class and kit context, but it does not establish measured runtime, lawn area per charge, cut quality, hill performance, noise, charge time or long-term reliability for the exact LM1704E-SP variant.
What the EGO LM1704E-SP is
LM1704E-SP is the Australian model or SKU identity for a compact EGO Power+ mower kit. Australian product material associates the code with a brushless 56 V mower, 42 cm cutting deck and self-propelled drive. The 42 cm format places it in the maneuverable end of full-size residential walk-behind mowers: wide enough for ordinary suburban mowing, but easier to place around garden beds, gates and narrow passages than a 50 cm-plus deck.
The important qualification is regional naming. EGO uses related model numbers in other markets, so a listing for LM1700E-SP or LM1702E-SP is useful for understanding the platform but is not proof that every included accessory, weight or performance characteristic applies to LM1704E-SP. Treat the Australian code on the seller’s invoice and product label as the deciding identity.

Confirmed Australian-market specifications
The following are the specifications that can be tied to the supplied Australian material or the exact retailer listing. Where a figure belongs only to a related regional model, it is deliberately excluded from the table.
| Specification | LM1704E-SP information | Evidence and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Market identity | Australian LM1704E-SP mower kit | EGO Australia product and promotional material |
| Drive system | Self-propelled | Australian product description and Total Tools listing |
| Motor platform | 56 V brushless system | Australian material describes the platform; the exact retailer listing states 56 V |
| Cutting width | 42 cm | Australian material and exact Total Tools listing; related EGO manuals also identify a 42 cm platform |
| Battery stated for the kit | 5.0 Ah | Total Tools’ exact-model listing; promotional bundles should be rechecked |
| Charger stated for the kit | Included in the advertised kit | EGO Australia promotional material; verify the current seller contents |
No verified LM1704E-SP figure was established for machine weight, battery charge time, runtime, collection-bag capacity, cutting-height range, noise or warranty duration. Do not copy the 22 kg or 24 kg figures sometimes shown for LM1700E and LM1700E-SP: those are related-model weights without the battery pack and mulching insert, not confirmed LM1704E-SP measurements.
Is a 42 cm deck right for your lawn?
Where the width helps
A 42 cm deck is a sensible compromise for Australian residential blocks where access matters as much as raw coverage. It can pass through narrower side gates and turn between trees, raised beds and play equipment with less shuffling than a wider deck. The smaller footprint also makes storage in a shed or garage simpler.
Recommended Free Tools
For a mostly open, regularly mown lawn, a wider mower can reduce the number of overlapping passes. That advantage is not automatically worth the extra bulk if your property has several tight corners or sloping paths. Measure the narrowest gate and the clear width beside obstacles, then leave room for your hands and the mower’s side discharge or catcher arrangement before deciding.

When to consider a different size
Very small courtyards may not need self-propelled drive or a 42 cm deck at all; a lighter push mower can be easier to lift and turn. Conversely, a large, open block may make a wider deck more time-efficient, provided you have suitable access and enough battery capacity. The LM1704E-SP’s 42 cm width should therefore be judged against your lawn layout, not against a generic “small” or “large” label.
What the 5.0 Ah kit does—and does not—tell you
A 5.0 Ah battery describes electrical capacity within EGO’s 56 V system; it is not a guaranteed mowing time. Runtime changes with grass height and moisture, blade sharpness, cutting-height setting, forward speed, self-propelled usage, slope, temperature and how often the motor encounters dense growth. Two lawns of the same measured area can therefore consume very different amounts of energy.
The supplied evidence contains no controlled runtime test for LM1704E-SP, no manufacturer lawn-area promise and no verified charge-time figure. Any website that converts the 5.0 Ah label directly into hours or square metres is making an assumption unless it publishes the test conditions and exact machine configuration.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow to estimate your own requirement
- Measure the mowable grass area, excluding paving, garden beds and structures.
- Record whether the grass is routinely maintained or often allowed to grow long and wet.
- Note slopes, soft ground and sections where self-propelled drive will be used continuously.
- Ask the seller what battery and charger are in the current LM1704E-SP carton, then compare that capacity with your expected workload.
- If your lawn is close to the battery’s practical limit, plan a charging break or a second verified-compatible battery rather than relying on an advertised area figure from another EGO model.
The exact compatible replacement-battery model was not verified in the available material. Check the current EGO documentation or seller before ordering an additional pack; physical fit and electrical compatibility should never be guessed from the brand name alone.

How self-propelled drive changes the ownership experience
Self-propulsion supplies traction through the drive wheels so you do not have to push the mower’s full rolling resistance, particularly useful on inclines, thick grass and longer mowing sessions. It can also make a loaded catcher easier to move. The trade-off is additional mechanical complexity, extra weight compared with a simple push mower and energy use while the drive is engaged.
Because no LM1704E-SP field test is available, the practical questions remain model-specific: how smoothly the drive starts, whether its speed suits your walking pace, how well it tracks on uneven ground and how much battery capacity the drive consumes on your slopes. A demonstration at the retailer, if available, is more informative than a generic claim about self-propelled mowers.
Questions to ask during a demonstration
- Can the drive be disengaged instantly at the handle?
- Does the mower remain easy to turn at the end of a row?
- Can you walk at a comfortable pace without repeatedly correcting the direction?
- Does traction remain consistent on your typical slope and surface?
- Is the handle control comfortable for the full width of your hands, including when wearing gloves?
LM1704E-SP, LM1700E-SP and LM1702E-SP: why the codes differ
EGO’s European manuals index lists LM1700E-SP as a 42 cm self-propelled mower and LM1702E-SP as a 42 cm self-propelled mower kit. EGO’s UK manual search result for the related LM1700E/LM1700E-SP also gives a 42 cm cutting width. These references support the shared 42 cm platform description, but regional model numbers can reflect different bundles, labels, compliance information or sales channels.

If a retailer’s page mixes these codes, ask for a photograph of the carton label and a written list of the battery, charger and accessories in the box. A model number in a search result is not enough to establish the Australian configuration.

How to verify a listing before purchase
- Match the exact code. The listing, invoice and carton should all say LM1704E-SP, not only LM1700E-SP or a generic EGO 42 cm description.
- Read the inclusions line. Confirm whether a 5.0 Ah battery and charger are included in that specific offer, rather than shown only in a promotional image.
- Check the voltage and deck description. The Australian listing should identify the 56 V system and 42 cm cutting width.
- Confirm stock date and promotion terms. EGO Australia’s promotional bundles are time-sensitive; an old banner can remain visible after the carton contents have changed.
- Request the manual for the exact supplied configuration. Use it for assembly, charging, blade handling, cutting-height adjustment and storage instructions.
- Clarify warranty handling. Ask who handles a fault in Australia, what proof of purchase is required and whether the battery and charger have separate terms.
First-use checklist
Use the current official manual supplied with the mower for every model-specific operation. Before the first cut, a cautious setup sequence is:
- Inspect the carton, deck, wheels, handle, catcher and controls for transport damage.
- Confirm that the battery and charger shown on the invoice are physically present and that their labels match the seller’s description.
- Charge the battery using the supplied charger and observe the charger’s indicator behaviour as described in the manual.
- Fit the handle, catcher, mulch insert or other supplied parts exactly as the manual illustrates; do not rely on a similar regional model’s diagram.
- Walk the lawn and remove wire, stones, toys and branches before starting.
- Test the controls on a clear, level section before attempting a slope or thick grass.
- After mowing, remove the battery before clearing packed grass, inspecting the blade or carrying out cleaning and storage work.
The official LM1700E-SP manual is a related regional document, not proof that every LM1704E-SP control or accessory is identical. Download and read the current Australian documentation before using the machine, especially if the seller supplies a revised battery, charger or catcher.

A credible LM1704E-SP review should separate measured results from specifications. If you are testing one yourself, record the conditions so another owner can understand the result:
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Area covered: measure the actual mowable area rather than estimating from walking time.
- Cut quality: inspect an even, dry section and a dense or damp section separately; note striping, missed blades and clumping.
- Handling: record turning effort, traction, gate clearance and control comfort.
- Noise: use the same distance and meter position for every mower; a casual phone reading is not a laboratory result.
- Charging: time a complete charge with the same battery and charger supplied in the kit.
- Collection and mulching: identify which insert and catcher configuration was used, because airflow and results can change with the setup.
The current evidence does not contain these measurements for LM1704E-SP, so this article does not assign it a runtime, area rating, noise level or hill grade.

Comparison framework for Australian buyers
When comparing the LM1704E-SP with another cordless mower, use the same checklist for both products:
- Access: compare deck width with the narrowest gate and the tightest turning area.
- Drive assistance: establish whether self-propulsion is included, optional or absent, and test its control range on your terrain.
- Battery and charger: price the complete working kit, not a mower body that requires separate purchases.
- Weight: use the ready-to-mow weight with the battery fitted when assessing lifting and storage.
- Runtime: compare tests made on similar grass, weather, cutting height and terrain.
- Cut result: look for repeatable observations on dry, damp and overgrown sections.
- Charging logistics: consider whether one battery can finish your lawn or whether a charging break is acceptable.
- Service and warranty: confirm Australian support, proof-of-purchase requirements and treatment of battery faults.
- Total price: include the battery, charger, catcher and any required accessories.
A competitor’s larger deck or higher-capacity battery is not automatically better. It may be less convenient through your gates, cost more to replace or provide no benefit if your lawn is small and tightly planted.
Maintenance and long-term ownership
Cordless convenience does not remove routine mower care. Keep the deck and vents clear according to the manual, inspect the blade regularly and store the battery and charger in the conditions EGO specifies. A dull or damaged blade can reduce cut quality and increase energy demand, while grass packed under the deck can affect airflow and handling.
Do not buy a replacement battery solely because it is labelled 56 V. Confirm the exact approved battery family, charger compatibility and Australian availability through EGO documentation or an authorised seller. Keep the original proof of purchase and record the model code, because support staff may need to distinguish LM1704E-SP from the related LM1700E-SP and LM1702E-SP products.
Verdict: who should buy the LM1704E-SP?
The LM1704E-SP is a plausible fit for an Australian homeowner who wants a 42 cm deck, self-propelled assistance and entry into EGO’s 56 V cordless system, especially when narrow access and maneuverability matter. The advertised 5.0 Ah battery and charger make the kit more useful than a mower-only purchase, provided those items are confirmed in the current carton.
Buy with caution if your decision depends on a guaranteed lawn area, long runtime, quiet operation, steep-slope performance or proven durability. Those outcomes have not been established for this exact variant. In that situation, insist on a retailer demonstration or a documented test under conditions that resemble your lawn, and compare the complete kit rather than relying on a related regional model number.
